India is the world's 3rd largest naval ship builder in terms of number of ships under construction/trials. Starting from this 40,000 tons Carrier to 8000 tons Nuke submarines, to 8000 tons Destroyers...whatever, name it. ;)

Indias shipping building prowess goes back centuries, look up the Wadia Group of India. From 1736 to 1884, the Wadias built not only dry docks and ports up and down India but they also built maritime vessels and warships for a variety of customers including private merchants, the Nizam of Hyderabad and most notably the British East India Company, the latter for whom they built famous vessels such as HMS Minden and HMS Trincomalee (now restored afloat at the Royal Navy Museum in Hartlepool, England).

Every carrier needs at least 6 submarines (3 ssk, 3 ballistics), 2 missile frigates with long range radars, 2 supply ships, etc. Carrier is just one main part of the power and defense projections.

Going on trials right now, soon we will see that as well. India is short on naval fighter jets, some of them are pretty dang old ! Naval fighters are resting on INS Vikramaditya, India's current operational aircraft carrier.
