As a fellow Congolese, I am glad you are sharing this info. Thank you for bringing up the sad reality that many Congolese children are living. This country is very rich in minerals,(gold, coltan,diamond, etc...)it was explored by Belgium and other people now while the local people remain poor.

As a Congolese living in the US, Palki Sharma, you are a definition of truth and real media. Yes Congo ignored by the World is the country in the center of Africa and the richest in term of natural ressources. I was shocked to meet some Americans that don’t even know that tge uranium used by the United States to make the atomic bomb dropped in Hisroshima and Nagasaki called”The little boy came from Congo). The most powerful uranium in the World. Tge sad story is that the whole natural Congo’s ressources are shared between the world’s power and Congolese are dying and cannot even send kids to school.

Great report! ... and to add to the "dirtiness" of batteries, they have to be charged ... with electricity that is mostly produced with (drum roll) ... fossil fuels!

Paiki Sharma is a good host/presenter. Always e-cars get the big blame. Lithium and cobalt are in many things. E-scooters, e-bikes, laptops, phones, toys, electric tools and so on. Cobalt is for example also in colors for painting. And don't think that diesel or gas cars are a clean business and do not hurt human rights. We are consuming and wasting way too much. LESS or even radical less is the way to go. Going on foot or riding a regular bicycle is making less problems. Building and riding evs or gas or diesel cars is always making big problems.

I sincerely thank you very much for speaking out on these evil blood battery.. I traveled to Congo in 2018 to witness this myself and what I saw there keep tears in my eyes. There was a village that was totally wiped out over night by security men just to mine in that particular village.. People where killed and their homes scrap out..

I'm from Belize. I am so grateful to have learnt this. This is heartbreaking and it is unimaginable that people claim green energy and success at the wanton disregard for human life. And it is always at the expense of Mother Africa.🙁🙁

Simple solution: Let's learn the art of saving fuel. 1. Turn off the engine if not in use for more than 2 mins 2. Drive in correct gear and correct RPM. 3. Maintain your vehicle and tyre pressure. 4. Always accelerate gently. (Very safe and efficient).

Same cobalt is being used in Petrol Refining too. Electric Vehicles companies are innovating new technology to use bettery with no cobalt.

Many places use coal generated electricity so now we are compounding the human health and environmental harm by charging toxic electric cars with coal generated electricity. When the ev batteries reach the end of their useful life they are extremely toxic waste to humans and the environment. There is not an industry set up to properly dispose of these toxic dead ev batteries because of the tremendous toxicity to human health. I have shared your very important video on our company website, not the least because this is the kind of blunt truth that all of us need to face, be it producers of these (Lithium based) electric vehicles or otherwise well-intentioned users, alike. As a values-conscious technology developer for over 20 years in Electric vehicle propulsion (direct industrial involvement includes Forklift trucks to electric MINIs in UK), we also need to speak out. I can wholly confirm that Lithium-based batteries are singularly the stuff of gross, opportunistic easy-solution led entrepreneurship: as in TESLA grabbing mobile phone cells and dumping them in a car, no concern of how much that costs (more sadly, as a result, today everybody follows suit , this resulting in making electric cars ever more expensive, almost now a status symbol for largely similar-minded or else highly impressionable users who do not see beyond the hype). Our company, and indeed many serious but otherwise small players out there , have long urged about and against this distortion of truth, putting in the hard work to develop more sociable solutions (Ni -mH , hybrid flow and indeed Pb Acid cheaper and more sustainably viable technology) but are simply laughed at, overshadowed by heavily hyped consumerism and capitalistic corporate ethic (not only Tesla and the likes, but Uber, Amazon, etc).And as often , any real concerns about the underlying damage and indeed ultimately cost that these fast solutions entail (eg dehumanisation of young people in poverty-stricken countries all over Africa) only becomes a distant priority . Utter shame that people know (Tesla, MB, even Volvo) but still go ahead, criminal complicity no less.
