Are Electric Vehicles really clean?
They run on dirty energy and blood of children as young as 6.
Electric cars drive human rights abuse and child labour.
China is one of the villains in this story.
Are electric carmakers equally guilty too?
Palki Sharma Upadhyay tells you.

The lack of a conversation around the cradle to grave impact of EV isn’t just infuriating. It’s also a sign that the real reason behind this push isn’t benevolent and is mostly likely a mechanism to increase control by completely centralizing travel.
@orthopraxis235
@orthopraxis235 Жыл бұрын
The Centralizing Travel (really human mobility) is the CENTRAL thrust of the green revolution. Stupid people here in California US do not even think much at all beyond what they are told. Let alone this nonsense of disbanding sales of gas cars by 2030. What do they think will happen once everyone is forced to rely on electricity. We already don't have enough on a hot summer week, now they want to go green its so obvious what the plan is.

Completely centralizing travel by encouraging everyone to buy their own e-car instead of bus/bike? Cars that can be recharged by fuel from a variety of sources, hydro-electric or nuclear or trickle charge solar, rather than relying on a handful of big oil companies?

@@lukebryan1848 You make good points, but how many sources of 110 or 220V electricity does the average American have in their house or apartment block? Probably one power company. I don't buy into the idea that EVs are being used to control travel, but cobalt mining doesn't seem cleaner than the oil industry, and EVs aren't the environmental panacea they are presented to be. That cleaner future, I think, is still a long ways down the road.

I was shocked to meet some Americans that don’t even know that tge uranium used by the United States to make the atomic bomb dropped in Hisroshima and Nagasaki called”The little boy came from Congo). The most powerful uranium in the World. Tge sad story is that the whole natural Congo’s ressources are shared between the world’s power and Congolese are dying and cannot even send kids to school.

@@MsSilkyJuneja the last thing I trust is mainstream media and randoms on social media. There are plenty of sources saying this issue is way overblown. Like 90% of the mines like for the big companies are commercially operated and just normal mines. Then there are the illegally and family operated ones, because people are poor and want find ways to make money. Big companies don't source from them. That's the Congo point. The EV point is utter BS. Gas cars use similar amounts of rare earths. The cheaper EVs all have 0 cobalt because they're LFP. Expensive EVs with Nickel battery compared to electronics have also a much lower cobalt percentage.

Paiki Sharma is a good host/presenter. Always e-cars get the big blame. Lithium and cobalt are in many things. E-scooters, e-bikes, laptops, phones, toys, electric tools and so on. Cobalt is for example also in colors for painting. And don't think that diesel or gas cars are a clean business and do not hurt human rights. We are consuming and wasting way too much. LESS or even radical less is the way to go. Going on foot or riding a regular bicycle is making less problems. Building and riding evs or gas or diesel cars is always making big problems.

So what you’re saying is not even worth reducing pollution. I’m sorry but your comment just proved that you lack critical thinking! Thank you Palki Sharma for having the Integrity, Dignity, Courage and Compassion to call out the clean ev deception. The metals and chemicals utilized in the electronics of ev's are very toxic to humans. Many places use coal generated electricity so now we are compounding the human health and environmental harm by charging toxic electric cars with coal generated electricity. When the ev batteries reach the end of their useful life they are extremely toxic waste to humans and the environment. There is not an industry set up to properly dispose of these toxic dead ev batteries because of the tremendous toxicity to human health. We are being told lies on climate, lies on electric vehicles, lies on many things because corrupt, greedy persons in postions of public trust are prioritizing profits over human health, and our environment. We need more journalists like yourself, and persons in positions of public trust that are trustworthy to prioritize human health, human rights, and responsible decisions about our environment. Right now electric is a lot cleaner than the old petrol car or bike no carbon emissions battery is easier to produce than petrol thats true. Lik in small scale like in electric scooter vs petrol scooter.. city drive I choose electric but for a long distance trip I choose the petrol ones. Fiedwebel Wolfenstool please In the Bible, in the book of Ezekiel 18:23 it said God said: Do you think I enjoy seeing evil people die?” Says the Sovereign LORD. “No, I would rather see them repent of their evil deeds so that they can live. End quote. What God means by live is, to be saved from hell fire after death, and from the lake of fire where all sinners will be cast on judgment day, after they had been brought back to life first and judged. To be destroyed and separated from God forever; and the Bible calls the lake of fire, the second death. After being saved from all these horrors, they would then live forever in heaven and the new, indescribable, beautiful, heavenly earth. Where there is no sorrow, pain, crying, sadness, hunger, thirst, suffering, sickness, disease and death. only everlasting happiness.

The issue is with the governance in these African countries. Developed countries have been exploiting Africa for resources. This is not new. Battery minerals are almost completely recyclable. It is just a matter of extracting minerals from old batteries ,purifying them and re-using them. An ex-Tesla employee is working on setting such a business. There is a video about him on KZfaq. Secondly, All smart devices have batteries in them. The demand is not just from EV's. It is from laptops, mobile phones, smart watches, cordless tools and so many countless devices.
@Menga213

@@anirudhhhh Ev batteries will not get recycled because it's not economically feasible. It's cheaper to build a battery from scratch than recycling the parts. Very simple math; The only few technologies that have better benefits are Hydrogen cars. We need more hydrogen plants and more nuclear power plants.
@anirudhhhh
@anirudhhhh 2 жыл бұрын
@@Menga213 Right now it is not economically viable because EV vehicles are significantly less. In the future, it can be done. Hydrogen vehicles have batteries. The fuel cell does not start producing electricity from H2 instantly. It takes quite some time. Till then the car runs on batteries. Not to mention price of H2 is sky high, it is significantly difficult to transport and a H2 filling station is expensive to setup. Given the huge demand of EVs I don't think people mind the charge times.

Thank you. I have shared your very important video on our company website, not the least because this is the kind of blunt truth that all of us need to face, be it producers of these (Lithium based) electric vehicles or otherwise well-intentioned users, alike. As a values-conscious technology developer for over 20 years in Electric vehicle propulsion (direct industrial involvement includes Forklift trucks to electric MINIs in UK), we also need to speak out. I can wholly confirm that Lithium-based batteries are singularly the stuff of gross, opportunistic easy-solution led entrepreneurship: as in TESLA grabbing mobile phone cells and dumping them in a car, no concern of how much that costs (more sadly, as a result, today everybody follows suit , this resulting in making electric cars ever more expensive, almost now a status symbol for largely similar-minded or else highly impressionable users who do not see beyond the hype). Our company, and indeed many serious but otherwise small players out there , have long urged about and against this distortion of truth, putting in the hard work to develop more sociable solutions (Ni -mH , hybrid flow and indeed Pb Acid cheaper and more sustainably viable technology) but are simply laughed at, overshadowed by heavily hyped consumerism and capitalistic corporate ethic (not only Tesla and the likes, but Uber, Amazon, etc).And as often , any real concerns about the underlying damage and indeed ultimately cost that these fast solutions entail (eg dehumanisation of young people in poverty-stricken countries all over Africa) only becomes a distant priority . Utter shame that people know (Tesla, MB, even Volvo) but still go ahead, criminal complicity no less.

Buying things that don't hurt anyone seems almost impossible 😞 Smartphones, laptops, fossil fuel cars, electric cars... I wish she'd offer more of a way forward rather than just report on the negative. Like which companies are doing the most to solve these problems? For smartphones we got FairPhone (sadly not in the US). Will there be a FairCar? On the bright side, companies like Apple made changes after the massive exposé that happened. Last I checked, they had improved on Ethical Consumer ratings.
