I remember as a kid on my dads boat, one day we anchored our 28ft boat about 150ft from the shore in front of Ogden dunes There was no other boats is sight for miles and zero people on their beach that day. Some Lady homeowner starts screaming at us from the beach that were on private property. We never left the boat or even intended to swim or anything. We just wanted to take a quick lunch on our boat , check an issue with our batteries, then be on our way. The lady was foaming at the mouth at us. ruined the whole day. There were no Dunes state park buoys in the area either like the public beaches even though boundary 300ft from the shore. We were bothering no one and they also were known to chase off joggers on their beaches. Since then I feel no sympathy for the beach home owners and will vote against any attempt to use tax dollars to fix their mess. Now Indiana supreme court changed for allowing beach access to walkers/joggers, and they have no beach left from mother nature at all. Karma will get you every time. Fuck em

I agree. This is our problem in Florida. The hurricane destroyed all of Mexico Beach every house washed away. Berkshire Hathaway has built more multimillion-dollar homes again right on the water. Why I can't get insurance coverage why we are sinking Florida with all this suburban sprawl. We have more growth in three years than we've had in twenty. This increase in population that doesn't fit. No schools there's not enough here for everyone. Florida is going to sink into the gulf

I know of a township on Lake Michigan where the people wanted to build right next to the water, Lake Michigan. The township is small but had ordinances that you could not build within so many feet of the beach. The people went to court, the township could not afford a lawyer so they had to let the people build where they wanted. More people found out about this so more threatened the township with lawsuits and won because the township did not have the money to fight. Guess what is happening now with these peoples antics. I don’t feel sorry for any of them!!! (I know the building inspector).

Not to take delight in other peoples misfortunes, you can see certain ;just deserts' in the wealthy who buy such properties, do their best to restrict access to the beaches for anyone else, so when they spend a few weeks or summer there, it's like an exclusive resort. Then, they turn around and want all of those people not allowed on 'their' beaches to pay for remediation of their (former) shoreline properties and build expense structures to protect their private properties. Well, for many of these, there is no longer any beach to fight over, thus the 'just deserts' attitude.

Matthew Lambert Homeowners are flipping the bill. People paying $200k on Lk Mich near me to bring in huge boulders on the shore. You cannot get a contractor to do the work: booked up well over a year out. Those sea walls were all installed by property owners. Who you going to sue? Lake at record high level. 6 years ago that guy probably had 100’ of beach. Had a few ‘homes’ fall into the lake this spring already.

Constructing properties right where the shoreline is this close is totally off limits . And how the heck its even allowed by the authorities is beyond me. These homes were built 20 years ago. The beach was way farther out when they were built. When I would drive by the lake I would see this house. 20 years ago, this house had a path to the beach. It’s not their fault for building it that close because when it was built it was not that close

Sorry, but their ignorance and lack of due diligence makes this a stupid, risky choice. If they'd bother to learn anything about the Lakes, they'd know historically it's been higher than today and lower than the 90s when it was at or near record lows, which doesn't go very far back in the grand scheme of things. Dan is correct. Build on the shores of an inland sea and not expect such problems is very short sighted. I wonder if they tried to get insurance for shoreline damage?
@joq702
@joq702 3 жыл бұрын
@@jimmy718 20 years ago (which of course was, I will grant you, a prehistoric age of crazy unfounded theoretical science, 2020) we were, and certainly wealthy people who have access to the best of this and that, made aware of things like climate science which included topics like rising waters and beach erosion. Just like today, which will be seen as prehistoric thinking once again in 2040, there were plenty of models and scientific research opinions of what will or could be . Seems to me if we have this many drone videos showing the same thing up and down the coast line of Michigan and Indiana then choosing to build close to a major lake is at least part of their fault for taking a risk that maybe the scientists have it all wrong and where they built is reasonably safe. I do feel bad for them, but lessons of what could happen were already on the books in 2020.

Brilliant Drive piles a few feet apart back fill with mix small to large rock to boulders drive in sheet piles w screened gaps to allow wave water that over tops to flow back out min 50 ft sheet piles or 4 x ht above sea bed, cap with concrete from below low tide cover rock fill with well concrete is the only no maint solution min 18 inches heavily reinforced might anchor in geo stabilizing rings and mesh that along with compacted highway fill might only require patching after storms, who knows establish a complex geo stabilized mini dune system with thick dense grasses still needs maint but might self heal a bit and alot nicer to look at Rip rap at 45 degree max out to where wave action won't under mine. (which is too far to afford so rip rap and replace every few yrs as needed PS Anyone who establishes a jack up barge based solution with proper equip LARGE equip can clean up here working back and forth as cheap skate rich folk need their patches patched again and again.
