I turned 16 in Feb 1963 and in June I threw a party for all of my friends in high school. Right about 8 pm with most of the guys and gals were there, I turned on the dual 75 watt McIntosh stereo (my older brother's), turned it up LOUD and put on WIPEOUT! The beginning of that song really got the party going. What a time and a very fond memory!

These guys came to my little town in '67 or '68, played at a dance when I was about 15 or 16. They were great. They partied with us, smoked some weed and drank some beer afterwards. They were great. And they were cool guys.

Back when I was in high school, every diner had a jukebox station at every table. You got one song for a dime and three for a quarter. Every time I got a chance, this was what I played. It still sounds great!

Several of the guys were in our church back in the day. One Sunday afternoon we had a concert in an out door amphitheater. It was a blast. The guy who does the laugh in the beginning was up in LA working on a project. They got a hold of him on a sat phone and he did the intro!.

Fender and Ampeg tube amplifiers have an unmistakable sound- I'm NOT a music historian, nor am I a software designer, but from what I know, no digital software can replicate the sounds of Fender and Ampeg tube amplifiers. At least not yet.

Nice - back in 2011, I guess, when Bob Berryhill was then 64 yrs old - he's the same age as me (now 72). Nice lead work but he was the rhythm gtr player in the Surfaris when "Wipe Out" was cut - Jimmy Fuller on lead then. I'm sure they all collaborated on this number. Drummer Ronnie Wilson said he sped up the drum part from the cadence he used to play in his high school marching band's drum line - NOT from Preston Epp's "Bongo Rock", although, yes, similar. Anyway, the original DFS 45 credits the writer as "Ron Wilson" as does the follow-up 45 on Princess (both released in early 63). The national Dot 45 lists the writers as "The Surfaris", but not just Bob Berryhill.

Hi Danny, greetings from the UK.The Surfaris classic was released in Britain on the legendary London American label. My original well-worn copy disappeared at a party, followed closely by Louie Louie and later 96 Tears.I,ve replaced all 3,and none of them ever left the house again.
