For this teach & play session, I will have the pleasure to play Wir Sind Das Volk! with Candice Harris, boardgame designer and content creator for BoardGameGeek.
Released by Histogames in 2014, Wir Sind Das Volk! by Richard Sivèl and Peer Sylvester is a thought-provoking design that recreates the parallel history of East and West Germany. On a surface level, it might look like a "classic" CDG, but it is mechanically very distinct from any historical games that I showed on this channel. Each player takes control of one side, and both compete on living standards and political influence over four decades.

The current rules (2.0) has you only start with 2 unrest in each western supplier province instead of 3 and 1 Socialist in the holding box instead of 2. (East also now have to discard a card or let the west draw a card to use the Special Event option for the Decade). Also the second you got your first mass protest in the east you have to automatically remove an unrest using a socialist in the holding box if available. Thanks for doing this, I love seeing WDSV plays on KZfaq.

Good catch! I corrected it later in the video, but will be adding a note in Klingon as soon as the video is processed.

@@HomoLudens1871 Yeah, commented partway through the watch and decided not to edit the comment after I finished cause I was on my iPhone at the time (finicky for this kind of thing) and figured there's no harm done in an redundant correction every once in a while. Don't know what Klingon refers to here, but thanks for the note.

@@GorgoPrimus klingon is the language I use for subtitles in which I put the rules clarification and correction.

Really good guys, just played solo using basic blind card turning and doing the best for each faction on their turn, West came out ahead by end decade two, wrapped it there as feel the end decade element is the fiddliest to master, in particular the Western Currency, which didn’t have any effect on the East (not sure why I expected it too though?) your stream helped me play through, thank you!

Yes the end of decade is the trickiest aspect of the system to wrap your head around, in a lot of ways everything that you do is to prepare that phase. Western currency should impact the East, unless the West decides to let it slide and focus on something else.

Thanks! and yes, vassal is not as aesthetically pleasing for sure, but it does require significantly less ressources from your computer and is more practical for async play.

Ouch ... Kidney stone too.... :( I see you've acquired "Granada" ... I'm very curious about it. Since I feel that Sekigahara is almost so perfect (theme, mechanics, balance, depth) that I have a hard time seeing what a "sequel" could do to improve it.

Still in shrink! Hopefully will put stickers on it soon and planning for a game at the club. As soon as I tried it I’ll let you know. But I am also coming from a place where I don’t see how sekigahara can be improved on.

This was super-interesting! However, you mention the Klingon subtitles, and I'm not seeing that as an option in the Closed Captions. I know in other videos with rules clarifications, Klingon comes up as an option immediately. Am I missing something?

I lived near the North Korean border recently, my mom is from East Germany...still waiting on the Korean sequel. Goryeo Saram 고려사람 = Korean "volk" in post Soviet states. This game is pretty hard to get to grips with, the manual isn't great at explaining.

Have you heard of a game called "No Motherland Without"? And I agree that the game is a bit tricky, we actually made a couple of tiny mistake on the playthrough so keep and eye on the Klingon Subtitles. We should play the 2+2 version early next year.
