Thanks for the video, I worked with alot of electricians never seen this trick. Most jobs I have been on would use 3/4" conduit instead of 1/2" for power circuits. I think the only time they use 1/2 " is for control circuits like fire alarm or data circuits.

Hey man, thanks much for your videos. I just moved into a new house that needs A LOT of wires run and some are going to be tricky. I am learning so much from your videos, some like the chain I already was doing but never thought of probing through the ceiling with a piece of wire to find the drill location. I'm worried because I think i am running into fireblocks, I am waiting to repair my in wall camera to confirm. Going to see if you have a video for dealing with fireblocks, any idea when they started adding them? my house was built in 1990. Also any tricks for dealing with attics that have al ot of insulation and you cant walk around? i want to add a ceiling fan and a bathroom fan but the attic has tall fluffyt insulatioon and no floor boards. To install the fan box supports and mount the bathroom fan to the beams, wouldnt i need to get access from above?
@StarvingElectrician
@StarvingElectrician 2 жыл бұрын
Very cool. My next video with a fishing ploe helps with those attics I wont go into. with fire blocks sometime you have to cut holes or get a long extention bit and drill through them but its a bitch to fish so thats where holes in the drywall happen. good luck and stay tuned.

If you are going to pull, ya gotta stretch that tape tight when you wrap it. I've seen a bunch of your short videos. Great content. I'm retired and I've seen almost everything :) I worked alone for decades and learned how to do pretty much everything by myself. The biggest wire pulling trick (alone) can be to take the conduit apart or leave off the last 90. Technically against code but it's like jaywalking when there id no traffic :)

You'd probably want to try putting lube on the tube first though because otherwise whatever prevented you from pulling it the first time would still prevent you even with this trick, and the hold you have on the wires here likely wouldn't be as strong as before so you really need to lube up the tube first, not sure if in America you have corrugated tubes but in Europe they're common and in a tube like that when things get stuck they get stuck for real and won't come off unless you add some lube I'm actually gonna experiment something i heard of, using an air compressor to push lube from one end of the tube to the other before i try this, not sure if it'll work but it's worth a shot lol

I use a similar method whenever I'm pulling cable underground. Esp on pulls longer than 100". I tie a big loop 6"-12" of jet/pull string at the tip of the duct auger. The auger never wants to go up that last 90°. I next bend my metal fish to make a hook like in the video. I then push the metal fish in until i get to the 90, and then i pull it back & forth a few times until i can feel the added weight. It usually catches the string immediately. It works great. PS. Dont forget about the vacuum method. That works well on empty that arent already filled with tons of watee & mud.

Awesome trick for snagging wires hung up in a conduit. I'm assuming, when you need to pull multiple wires, it is best practice to bundle them and pull them all at once as you have shown, rather than pulling three and then three more? When the conduit size allows for future expansion and you need to pull 2 more wires a few years later, what are the associated problems of pulling through a conduit that already contains wires? I also assume it would be wise to leave a fish string inside the conduit run in case future wires need to be pulled? No one seems to be addressing this scenario.

@hankkline7300
@hankkline7300 2 жыл бұрын
When trying to fish wire down an insulated wall, I find that a piece of #6 bare copper wire without a hook, will push right through fiberglass insulation. Also if you are in the attic and get insulation on your arms, duct tape will help to get it off. also if you can't get that fish tape through that last bend, loop a few wraps of pull string through the eye, then when you put another fish tape in from the other end the open hook will grab the string and then you can pull it through. Also don't forget to straighten all of the kinks out of your fish tape regularly and wipe some oil on it. If its a hard pull, soap it ALL THE WAY. Don't wait until it gets hard to pull. It won't help then. Remember wire is like water it's easier to pull down hill. Never pull straight out of a conduit (sideways) you will curl the fish tape and make a mess.
