Beautiful! Thank you for helping me figure out how to wire wrap a cabochon ring! I was scratching my head, trying to figure it out without crossing over the front of my stone how to wire wrap a beautiful silver sheen obsidian stone. I love how in the moment you were, too, & pointed out the hole & had a ready variation/fix.

I can't get enough of your videos, I love your stuff! Could you do a ring with a small crystal point? I have a little citrine point that I'm struggling to frame right in a ring without covering too much of the front. Also, do you have an Etsy shop?
@OxanaCrafts

You could use this tutorial to wrap the little crystal, just trap it with the frame in the same way I trapped the little cabochon. I don't have etsy, but I sell via Facebook.
@rioreason

Oh, of course. I guess I'll just try two wires instead of three, to try and show off the point more. Thanks, the best solution always seems the easiest - I guess I just wasn't seeing the obvious. @OxanaCrafts

Thank you! I have some videos on just the weaving portion, so you can see that part in a bit more detail and slower. Here is one that also uses 3 base wires, it is not exactly same as the one in the video, but you could definitely do this type of weave, especially for that portion that goes around the ring: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNl1f5uSlp6vZ2w.html and for the other portion(the band) here is another weave that would work well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbmqpaqH0trbaZ8.html

after I oxidize, I polish it up, so that's why you see the lighter copper highlights. And because the excess tarnish has been removed I do not find that it gets on the skin.

Does the 20g wire need to be dead soft? I am having trouble finding this wire.
@OxanaCrafts
@OxanaCrafts 7 жыл бұрын
usually most wire at craft stores is dead soft, the other type is half hard. I personally have not used half hard so I am not sure how it would work
@unboundbytiffany
@unboundbytiffany 7 жыл бұрын
Marni Carroll , I used an 18 gauge medium hard for the base wires and 28 gauge dead soft for the wrapping wire and it seems to work nicely so far (almost done with it just making the stone to put in) it was a little harder to bend perfectly round and into shape but I do think that is beneficial in the long run as it will harder for a customer to accidently misshape or ruin, so much less likely you'll have someone unhappy down the line. Also, I do think you need a soft wire for atleast the wrapping wire as it would be very difficult to get those perfect tiny loops all the same and woven tightly to the base wires, atleast without alot of time and effort. In fact, I am not sure if you can buy a 26 or 28 ga. wire in anything but soft as its so thin I would think it'd be soft no matter what, haha. Anyways sorry longggg response but to summarize I actually prefer my base wires (16ga. to 24ga.) to be a harder wire, usually a medium temper like the brand "Beadalon" in German style silver plated round. Then I wrap them with a dead soft wire like the brand "Artistic Wire" silver plated 26ga. or 28ga. However note the 28ga. tends to break/snap while wrapping VERY easily. Quite annoying. anyways hope that helps! I'm no expert, just a small business entrepreneur and I LOVE Oksana's tutorials and ideas/designs it's inspired alot of new jewelry ideas of my own! Thank you, keep the wire wrapping coming please:)

I am extremely confused now, I followed the steps thought I had it, but as I rewatch the clip between finishing the second weave and closing up the circle the circle on weaving for the cabachon changed sides and direction. I have no idea how you got there. now mine looks like the first moment you start weaving (with the empty spaces for 28gauge wire to fit through) on the inner side of circle, and then when you "come back after finishing weaving", it's on the outside and circle is in different direction and reversed. Have no idea how to properly get there... help please!
@hhhhhhhhh61
@hhhhhhhhh61 7 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Danilewicz hi there tiffany. I see your problem. She must have decided to change the direction of the frame for the cab so the woven points were to the outside of the frame and didn't mention it. If you are careful you might be able to salvage your ring by gently straightening it and then bending it the other way. or just go with it! It's all part of the learning process... it will be a bit harder to get your weft wire in from the underside to secure the cab this way though which is probably why she changed it. sorry you got stuck following so carefully. I hope this helps.
@unboundbytiffany
@unboundbytiffany 7 жыл бұрын
tikuli tikuli Thank you so much for the reply! Yes, I straightened it again and retwisted it to match the second version, as the first was too difficult to close and finish as well as the stone couldn't be centered on the ring vertically either it only sat above it so had to fix it. It seems to be ok just was extremely difficult I mean EXTREMELY as the wires were wayyyyyy to tight to be rounded the opposite direction but it seems to be ok now. I'll try to post the finished ring once I'm done making the stone :) Thank you again!

Oxana when you are showing how to bend the wire around the cab it would be helpful if you showed the way they go and stop for a second it is too fast I am trying to follow and just can't keep up. Have stopped a couple of times and again too fast moving ring around constantly when showing so can't make the bend correctly . I guess it is just me bc everyone else says good. but I really can't see when ring in constant motion
@OxanaCrafts
@OxanaCrafts 8 жыл бұрын
sorry, I will try to slow down next time. I figured that part would be different for everyone since you would have a different size and shape of stone, you just have to bend the wires around it forming a frame.
