How to Organize Rods on Bass Boat Decks

It's common practice for hardcore bass anglers to have a several pre-rigged rods laid out on the front deck and ready for action. The problem is how to quickly find the lure you want for the situation and grab it without a jumbled mess of rods. Walker presents several smart tips to organize rods that'll 1) shore up room so you can have more rods at the ready, 2) a system for organizing rods by lure family so you can quickly grab, and 3) how to align reel handles and rod blanks to reduce tangles and broken tips and guides.

Absolutely agree. Organization is key. That said, I have rod buckles on my boat that latch to the lid. So I can keep my rods out most of the time. I just always keep them strapped down on my tackle side. If they aren't, I strap them down really quick when I have to open the rod locker just so I don't worry about dropping a rod overboard.

It's good to know I'm not alone. Lol I wish I could show you my work/ready to fish van. I keep my work van so organized that I can fit 4 big tackle bags, 5 small tackle bags, 2 spinnerbait boxes, 1 buzz bait box, 2 spool boxes, and 8 rods in my can and still work out of it. I do grocery store and comm. Refrigeration so I have a ton of tools and parts on hand so I have a designated spot for everything. Good thing I don't have a boat yet or I'd never get anything done around the house. Lol

Being a bit OCD...I can relate to your video. Currently I do not own a bass boat but Im working on it. I fish out of an Ultraskiff. Most folks are floored with the amount of equipment I carry but because I'm so anally organized and efficient in the way I store my gear, its possible to carry as much gear as a small bass boat can tow! lol When I see all those rods across your deck, all I see is them getting crushed...especially if I'm fishing with a buddy or 2. There has gotta be a better way to have accessibility to your rods but also, not have to worry about having one of my $400 rods snapped. lol

I keep all my right-handed retrieve reels on one side, and all my left-handed retrieve on the other. Mixing them together wont allow them to sit even on the deck.

How many rods you can fit on each side varies by boat manufacturer. Generally speaking, 3 per side is widely doable -- 6 fully rigged and ready rods gives your a solid lineup of presentations on the front deck.
