Love this upgrade! The primary display provides all the desired info for each zone without pushing different buttons and even gives me outside temps. The ability to monitor temps and get upper and lower temp alerts when away is significant. Pet owners will really appreciate. It is great to change settings after going to bed and before getting out of it.

Hi Jim! We'd say "subtly" but it might just be psychological, since the new ones look so damn NEW! LOL The old ones were pretty quiet already, but the biggest improvement has been air flow, since we tidied up the wiring, which was partly blocking the ducts in the original installation.

Great video- thank you! Do you know how well this works remotely with campground WiFi?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Allison. If you have a way to connect your RV's network to campground WiFi (like with a WiFiRanger or Peplink router), then you should be good. There's not a lot of data being transferred to enable you to remotely view/change the HVAC when away from the RV, so it should work just fine. We haven't done that, specifically, ourselves... because we tend to rely on our own cellular connection, instead of a park's WiFi (and haven't had any trouble remote controlling over that). Hope that helps!

The campground Wifi is free/public but has one of those screens that occasionally pops up where you have to check the box (kind of like Starbucks free public Wifi) and then you’re online. Would I need a router or something in this case?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 3 жыл бұрын
@Allison Morden - Hmmm... WiFi networks with captured portals like that can be a royal pain. They often have short time limits for connectivity... so if your device isn't actively using the connection, they time you out and force a new "login" via their portal. We've had trouble using them before with both the WiFiRanger and the Pepwave for that reason. Of course, "your mileage may vary" and it may work fine for you (i.e. if you don't get logged out regularly using a single device, it may work OK even using an intermediate device to make the connection).

My fifth wheel has 3 AC units and 3 thermostats (the Dometic Standard) which are a real pain. You mention in the video that you can control multiple zones. What I am wondering, since this thermostat is quite pricey, do I have to replace all 3 of mine to this model?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill! The Easy Touch can handle multiple air conditioners, but the problem in your case is probably the wiring. If you have three separate thermostats in three separate areas of the RV, the air conditioners are probably not interconnected at all. The way our single thermostat is able to control both air conditioners is because the two air conditioners are connected together with a control cable, like a phone cable. We also have remote temperature sensors that are nowhere near the thermostat. In your set up, the temperature sensors may very well be inside the thermostats themselves. Your challenge will be wiring. In other words connecting the air conditioners together and having three separate temperature sensors around the RV that are all wired together to the single thermostat to do the job. Running that type of wiring through RV walls, ceilings, and floors, can be really difficult, and we think that may be your biggest obstacle. It’s possible that you may be able to reuse the current wiring that goes from each air conditioner to each thermostat, and replace those thermostats with temperature sensors. That would accomplish connecting each temperature sensor to its corresponding air conditioning unit. But you’ll still need to get the three air conditioners daisychain together and down to the single thermostat to make it work. Hope this makes some sense. If you’re comfortable with fishing wires and being real creative about that kind of thing, it definitely could work.

@@RVgeeks Thank you for that great explanation. My thermostat wiring has 6 wires, three of which at attached to terminals inside the thermostat and three of which are cut (this is a 2018 Heartland RoadWarrior btw). One of the units works AC and the heater. From what you're telling me, it sounds like the available wires might in fact allow for such interconnectivity. I may try to call Heartland today to see if I can get a tech to tell me what each color wire does.

Question.... Does it give a temperature read out on the display to know the actual temp in the RV? That is the number one thing I DO NOT like about the dometic digital thermostat is that it doesnt tell you the temperature
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 8 ай бұрын
Not only does the EasyTouch thermostat tell you the current temperature in the RV, but (if you have Internet access at the RV), you can see and control the temperature on the RV from anywhere in the world via the app on your phone or iPad.

Ok so another question do you have 1 thermostat wire or 2. If 2 did you set a relay for a master and slave ac?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. We can't answer this definitively for all RVs and/or air conditioner brands, as they may be wired differently. For our Dometic A/C system in our Newmar: we have 1 thermostat that controls both A/Cs; the thermostat is wired directly to the front A/C unit; there is a secondary control cable that connects the two A/Cs together; the front A/C is set (via dip switches on its circuit board) as the "Main"; the rear A/C is set as secondary; from each A/C unit there is a wire for a "remote" temperature sensor for that zone... Zone 1 (front) sensor is mounted on an interior wall near the middle of the coach and Zone 2 (rear) sensor is mounted on an interior wall in the bedroom. Many RVs are wired with a separate thermostat for each zone (probably simplifies the wiring for the manufacturer), in which case you'd need two Micro-Air EasyTouch units.

Just to let everyone know, the current version of the Micro Air thermostat does not support Automatic Generator Start (AGS). We got in touch with technical support and were told that this was a feature they are working on and will be released as a software update in the near future. Since we have pets, we decided to put the old thermostat back until AGS is available.
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 3 жыл бұрын
With Dometic air conditioners, it's not the thermostat that triggers auto-genstart. It's the circuit board in the air conditioner itself, so the RV has to be wired with a trigger wire from the a/c to the ags, which is usually a factory setup. It may differ among units/brands/OEM/aftermarket setups etc. But good to know that Micro-air is updating the software to work in more situations. Thanks for the update!

Sorry if we weren't clear about that, John! We meant that we set the heat down low in cooler months rather than run much heat all night. I doubt our A/C could get it down to 58 in here when it's 80 outside, much less 100! LOL On the occasional night that's so warm overnight we need to run A/C, we'd more likely set it to about 68-72, just to keep from sweating during the night.
