I wish there wasn’t three factors in each pot that were different, but just one? I don’t know if the best rooted one was because of the soil, the placement of light, the fact that one has a lot of leaves on it, all three factors combined, maybe just two combined? Also, I’ve heard that watering is different if they are propagated in water, can you share how much to water vs a soil propagation?

hi thanks for sharing your experience on zz plant propagation, just have a question about the stages after bulb forming and rooting. How can we induce the bulb to grow its new shoot (stem) faster than normal shooting time? thanks a lot

hi, ripley. i never knew that the zz plants have a nodule under the soil. no wonder there is no need to water them much since they have their own reservoir underneath. i do have a plant that i have gotten in the spring and i do think that they have a slow growth habit. keep us informed of the growth of yours. i thought i saw offshoots starting on your plants. later, carmine.

It’s actually pretty cool because the whole zz plant Is one big petiole and doesn’t technically have a “stem” which is why our propagates so well! My mother plant is actually growing quite fast compared to how I thought it would but will certainly have an update on that in the Future.

thanks for the information, ripley.--- i caught an old episode of your show with you having long hair. i too had long hair about the same length.i pulled it so hard a ponytail that i was losing hair in the front of my head, so i decided to cut it. cp.

For pothos, it’s more successful/ best to propagate just one leaf vs many, like this zz plant. Weird how they are different!

These plants have rhizomes or tubers as a part of their roots.

What kind of soil to use for zz plant? Can I use a regular potting soil for zz plant?

Regular potting soil would work okay but they grow best in a mix that has a lot of coconut coir

Will try to get one out for you this next week! I’m supposed by how little growth I’ve gotten from the single and double leaf cuttings despite what some other videos portray on KZfaq, it may be a grand conspiracy!!! Haha

I used water with a drop of plant food and grow lights 24/7 for 2.5 months for my Raven leaf only. I now have a bulb on it. Now to wait for the roots on it before I plant it into soil. I have it up on instagram the stage it is at now. There is a guy on KZfaq that says it is impossible to be done. I guess he didn't do something right in his 3 years and still nothing for him. Here is a picture of mine. instagram.com/plantshares_r_us/ I had it in a shot glass with a marble queen propagation to balance the raven zz 1 leaf on it. I wanted to keep just the tip of the stem in the water only so the leaf would not rot. I did only one leaf and no cutting.
