Wisdom teeth are a common cause of toothache, pain and infections. You can often treat or solve the problems with your wisdom teeth at home with good brushing. If you can remove plaque and bacteria that build up around your wisdom teeth, you will prevent infections.
However, it is still important to get help and advice from a dentist when you have problems with your wisdom teeth. In this video, Dr Andrew Wilson explains how to care for your wisdom teeth, why they cause so many problems and what treatments may be required.

I have impacted wisdom tooth in lower jaw The wisdom tooth site doesnt hurt but i am having ear pain, back mouth discomfrt and swallojg diffuclty Are these wisodm tooth symptoms ? Thanks

Yes, they certainly could be. Particularly difficulty swallowing. It certainly sounds like some form of infection whether it's the wisdom tooth or not.

Hello, first time dealing with wisdom tooth pain. Lower wisdom tooth - incredibly painful. It's waking me up in the night and also giving me a bit of ear ache. Everyone has said this is normal but is it? I've been using mouthwash, painkillers and salt wash today. How long will the last and should I be concerned? I can't get to a dentist any time soon. Thank you

Hello. Yes, your symptoms do sound like they could be to do with your wisdom tooth. You need to keep the area as clean as you can with brushing and salty mouthwashes. If there is any swelling, you may benefit from antibiotics if you can see someone who can prescribe them.

Please advise me. I have intense head, ear and now nose pressure for 5 months non stop (all left side of head and face)! I also have tingling across left cheek and top lip and teeth! Could this be sinus/teeth problems? I have impacted wisdom teeth and am hopefully getting them out asap please God and will feel better after this?

Nose pressure is unlikely to be related to wisdom teeth. It could be related to sinuses as you mentioned. Could be another tooth causing it. If you have impacted wisdom teeth that have been found to be an issue, it would be best to follow your doctor's advice and have the treatment to remove them.

Will a doctor prescribe antibiotics if it will be a few days until you can get in to the dentist

That depends on the doctor. Often, doctors are reluctant to prescribe antibiotics for dental issues. However, if you explain the situation, hopefully they will help.

My wisdom tooth is coming and its caused swelling and it’s coming horizontally should i remove it or wait for it to adjust ?

Hello, if a dentist has taken an x-ray and it is coming through horizontally, it probably won't be able to correct itself. It may be that it would be better to have this tooth extracted. If it stops causing you problems, it may be possible to leave it as it is however you should seek advice from your dentist.

I tend to have issues with antibiotics, do you think the inflammation can solve on it's own? It's been 3 days since my gum is swollen of my right wisdom teeth, the pain is much better I can even open my mouth now. Seeing a dentist in 3 days but afraid of antibiotics.

It sounds like it might be improving on its own. Keep it as clean as you can with careful brushing and if it continues to get better, you probably will not need antibiotics.

@@dc2894 Wisdom tooth removal would depend whether it was a surgical extraction but probably wisdom tooth removal. Root canal should not really be painful. Crown lengthening certainly could be painful while it heals.

Yes, it is. As long as you are okay to take both medications (no allergies etc.) then you are fine to take them together.

Omg!!!! my daughters just went to oral surgeon. We both nervous hehhee But thank God no infection and pain will go away itself. We should just watch you instead to see the surgeon hehehe however you would not help her if there is an infection concern 😊 Can you please give us advice if good to remove all wisdom teeth at the same time? Coz the rest aren’t fully grow. Her lower tooth was the one bothers /pain her.

It's very hard to say which wisdom teeth should be removed without seeing them. However, it's not much fun to have them all out at once so might be best just to deal with the ones which are causing issues.

My lower left Müller gum is inflamed lol it don’t hurt but I made a dentist appointmentto get it cleaned out and scedual to get them removed

Hello. It's not normal. Not being able to fully open your mouth means that there is likely to be inflamation or infection in the area.

Can half erupted wisdom teeth cause back head pain , neck stiffness, jaw stiffness. Is it normal during eruption or I need to consult doctor.

Hello. Wisdom teeth can cause jaw stiffness or limited opening of your jaw. However, I don't think it is very likely that a wisdom tooth would cause neck stiffness and it is not common for the pain to refer to the back of you head. I hope that helps.

Hello, you need to find a dentist to remove the tooth I would imagine. Painkillers such as paracetamol may help to control any pain if you are able to take them.

Both sides of my lower side of mouth wisdom teeth is coming, it's so painful that I didn't eat anything for 3 days and I can't able to chew anything just drinking juices 😓😓and can't able to open my mouth wide . Any suggestions plzz

Visit the dentist if you can. Painkillers and antibiotics if there is an infection. Warm salty mouth rinses. Careful brushing/cleaning of the area.

For past 5 months and still im suffering from tmj problem where my mouth opening is too limited as i noted its around 2.5cm to 3cm. if i tried to open wider it causes painful popping and clicking, sometimes even locked opened for 3-4 seconds and get back to normal but very painfulll. Im having soft diet for 5 months. As im trying to figure out a solution for this, i have visited 4 doctors, and i recently visited a dentist, and she told that im having a wisdom tooth that stuck under gum and concluded i have both tmjd and wisdom tooth and mentioned its serious and needed a great medical attention. She told to look for a great dentist to do this.....what should i do? how do i search for a right dentist for my problem? is there any specific names for dentist who deals both perfectly...i really worry abt this? please advice.

My wisdom teeth are coming through my lower jaw and it has caused swelling on one side of my face which is noticeable, and it’s been like this for 5 months. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the swelling so my face can look back to normal.

Antibiotics would probably help to deal with the infection/swelling. Otherwise, you may need to have the wisdom tooth extracted.

I'm having so much pain on my upper right tooth! With it I feel neck pain, ear pain and jaw pain on the same side! Its causing me fever and a lot headache! It's going on for weeks now and just stops with antibiotics, but after a few hours it comes back... sometimes I can't even turn my head around ! From the last three days I've been having difficulties to open my mouth properly 🥲 Is it ok to remove the tooth with these symptoms?

Hello, it is normal to have extra molar teeth come through around the age of 12 years old. These are probably not your wisdom teeth, they are probably your second molar teeth (number 7 teeth) but the experience might be similar to wisdom teeth coming through.

Hello. Maybe but this would be very unusual. How long have you had the numbing for? I think you should get the numbing investigated by a doctor or dentist very soon if you can.

Hard to say. If you get an infection around a lower molar tooth, it can spread to cause swelling or altered feeling in your throat and when swallowing.

I started having pain in my lower left jaw in my early twenties. This has been on and off for about 20 years. It finally pushed the tooth in front of it out. I don’t recommend this method

Hello, So I’ve been having pain for 7 days now In both bottom wisdom teeth , jaw, and ear. Ibuprofen has helped for a few hours. Doing salt water daily. Saw my dentist three days ago and she said no sign of infection just irritation and that I need to get them removed ASAP. However I’m still in pain daily and my jaw is a bit constricted. My question is, is this normal? Or would u recommend antibiotics?

Does it feel like there is any swelling? If your jaw opening is restricted, this could indicate swelling from infection in the area. Antibiotics should help if there is some swelling that has developed.

There is no obvious swelling, but I feel a bit. Lots of pressure around ears and sinus. Jaw mobility is a bit better but I still deal with pain all day, I have antibiotics, just trying to decide if I should take them. Thank you

my Gum is swollen maybe it is because of Wisdom tooth and there's little Bump on my Gum 😭😭 . I tried to touch it and i felt there is a teeth and its too painful 😫😫😫

Hello, yes it could be a wisdom tooth, depending on where in your mouth it is. If you can feel a tooth coming through behind the rest of the teeth at the back of your mouth then, yes, it could be a wisdom tooth coming through.

Of course, visit a dentist if you can. Keep the area as clean as possible. It will be uncomfortable but brush the area. A mouth wash can be helpful; either Corsodyl or just salty water.

That is quite early but it is possible. It could also be your second molar teeth coming through which often come through between the ages of 12 and 14.
