I did enjoy myself while I was playing, but I did not know Sept 6/2019, would be the last day I played outside for a very long time. Looking back, it's like another world with all these freaks, these maskless people milling around outside, without fear, enjoying what used to be called 'freedom'. I'm glad I got it on video. Maybe it will be in a time capsule one day. Who knows if this will ever come back. Wish I was there!

Stumbled across y’all just a day ago, and hafta say that some of the comments on other videos don’t seem to get the point that you’re not out to clone the originals - some of which us older listeners may have heard and played air guitar to literally thousand times - but to give your own take. Secondly, while your several “impressions on a theme by Knofler” readily demonstrate, your fingers can move as quickly as the melody requires, what I was most gratified to see with this one was the restraint and spacing between notes - to my mind Gilmour has long been personification of “less is more”. In closing, I live in Victoria, but have visited the same Vancouver street corners seen here a few times and would definitely not be one of those pedestrians obliviously speeding past.
@shatnershairpiece
@shatnershairpiece 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, there is a mindset, and this applies to every guitar solo lesson on youtube, that copying someone else's solo is the pinnacle of achievement. I literally scream when I see another AC DC video showing how to play a solo and it has 1 million views. Meanwhile those that do their own thing are never seen. I too have done the copy thing, but it's a bad habit that needs to be broken asap or you suffer immensely as a player. No one ever sold records playing someone else's solo. And you're right about spacing, it's another thing that many players never learn. This is why no one ever cries a tear after a Malmsteen solo. Anticipation is very valuable in a song. It's part of the reason I never liked general music theory. Creates too many clones.
@fonkenful
@fonkenful 3 жыл бұрын
@@shatnershairpiece Thanks to the delights of KZfaq algorithm, but what should pop up in my suggestions list shortly after my posting above but interviews with Greg Lake, discussing among other things why he loves the Gibson J200 -as if anyone hearing the first few bars of “In The Beginning” needs any explanation. I came “of age” during what I consider to be that magic era of the late 60’ to mid 70’s, and consumed all manner of musical genres, and now 50yrs later am finding that bombastic shredding for its own sake has lost much of its appeal - but I digress. Thanks for sharing the artistry of this 21st Century bionic guitarist.
@shatnershairpiece
@shatnershairpiece 3 жыл бұрын
@@fonkenful yes, shredding is a thing even I was tired of seeing through the 80’s, thankfully dying when Nirvana hit. No one listens fondly to this kind of guitar playing or misses it. I can’t imagine someone saying “I really miss that 1000 note phrase that Malmsteen played in that song back in 1984. Makes my heart soar!” The thing these players miss is that guitar is not a sport. They seem to want to connect only with other guitarists which is a mistake. 99% of people are not musicians and barely understand music when it’s slow, let alone a million notes in 4 bars. Personally I can’t stand most jazz either because it’s non stop bullshit notes with no spacing. You learn this very quickly on the street, where you have to connect emotionally and not with technique. It’s the same reason my complicated finger style arrangements get no reaction even though they are impressive to me and other musicians. People in general don’t care how technically skilled you are. They don’t even care about mistakes. I have a prince video ‘ten minute purple rain solo’ that went viral and people love it even though I think it’s mediocre and full of mistakes. They connect with the emotion I put through.

...Good evening Robin, Pink Floyd, June 1988 in the Feyenoord soccer stadium, not far from where I live today. This was the only time I saw them perform. I wish they were here, every time I hear their music again in any form! Robin, thanks to your nostalgia-inducing performance, the memory of PF comes back to me! The PF sound, however familiar to everyone, remains Time(less). I feel privileged to have been able to spend my teenage years in the 70's! Robin, thank you for this (too) short trip back to a distant past... hope you're still doing well and take good care, Jan-W p.s. Love the flageolet at the end!

Hi! I also saw them in 1986 Vancouver. I feel the same about the 70’s. I saw most of my concerts in the late 70’s to late 80’s. My first concert was Johnny Cash in 1974. Floyd is always popular on the street and I will continue to play some this year.

Robin, I have commented on several of your tubes. Floyd comes a close second to my love of Marc K. Been to see Australian Pink Floyd 3 times. They are awesome but...they play it like it was (I'm told Gilmour asked them to play at his 50th birthday; he said they were better lol 🙄. However...you know the song, you pay tribute to it but you add the Robin spin which makes it unique. I absolutely love it. Keep going my friend. Thank you.
