hey love, my grandmother gifted me some white sage that she got from a really good spiritual friend of hers home I do not know their culture or background. I had been burning it for a while every now and then but after I’ve seen all these comments and done my research on how it’s a close practice I don’t know what I should do with it. i’ve read that it should be buried? do you think I should bury it?

I Heard that palo santo isnt a closed practice, that the reason people say not to buy it is because people are cutting down trees in order to sell it and to but it from companies that only sell the palo santo sticks that fell on the ground and didnt hurt the tree in any way. Can you use white sage or palo Santo knowing you completely respect it and smudging it for own personal purposes? I’m sorry if it sound disrespectful but I bought white sage and palo santo before knowing it was for close practice for indigenous people and I’m not sure if I should stop using it because I love the energy when I light it up but people recommend to burry it and not use it. I completely respect it and I am informed now of what it is used for but if burying it and not using it is also respect then I would do that.

And sustainability is an issue so companies need to grow and harvest their own. My using palo santos is not stopping any minority culture from using it in their closed ceremonies. To add onto the above commenter, the problem with the white sage market is that people are going onto the land and ripping out plants (illegally in some areas) because it’s faster and then these plants can’t grow back. It makes it hard for indigenous people to harvest white sage (which they do responsibly, not taking the whole plant) to use in their own cultural ceremonies. You can buy white sage plants from native people near some reservations so as not to contribute to this industry and to support indigenous communities instead.

chloe white sage is a closed practice for indigenous cultures- respecting this helps to respect the culture it comes from. There are a bunch of different sages people can use other than white sage. If you’re indigenous, you can totally use white sage if you want :)

U can smoke clense with incense or put them in moon water or just run water over them from your tap to clense the crystals or use selenite just don’t put selenite in water bc it’s a rly soft mineral and will breakdown kinda hope this helps ❤️

Hi Darcy! So, white sage is used by primarily indigenous people, meaning Native Americans and other cultures that existed before the pilgrims. Native spirituality is a closed practice for only those who belong to Native culture, and white sage and palo santo are part of that culture. Since you've already bought it, throwing it away would just be a waste. You could give or sell it to a Native person, you could bury it, or you could just keep it on display. Using it would be your own prerogative, but understand that in the future you should buy a different type of sage so as to not be using things from closed cultures. It would help you to do research on the different types of sage and their cultural backgrounds to see what you can and can't use. Good luck!

you can also use crystals that you own & make your own, it’s alot easier than you’d think
