After hearing all this I wonder why people are mourning this site, I’m legitimately surprised it didn’t get shut down sooner

And this is why I never used the video chat function in Omegle. First person I chatted to on there, after finding out I was new to the site, told me to never use my laptop camera for my own safety and peace of mind. Forever grateful for that warning. 🙂

My own story from the site coming up. I was a dumb 11/12 year old and just went there to waste time and be stupid so what I did was: I stuck like 5-10 pencils in my nose and ears and answered video calls like that. Many people laughed but that's about it. After a while a dude at that point maybe 10 years older than me came up.. he didn't say a word.. just disappeared off screen. Couple of seconds later he comes back.. with 10 of his own pencils up his nose and ears. I died laughing. That was over a decade ago and I still don't know who you are but thank you dude. That day I realized there's the same kind of insane as me in this world. Made my day. 😄

This is much sweeter: As an 9 year old, i got on the website, and met a guy who started texting in the little chat feature saying “hey kiddo, how old are you?” when i answered with 9, they said “alright, just be safe here alright? If you see or hear anything confusing skip it.” I said okay and then we chatted for a bit, i had alot of stuff animals in my room and just brought them to the camera showing him, got a giggle out of him and he said “stay safe kid, bye.” And after that, i was tired and went to sleep.

I suddenly had vivid memories of nicknaming myself “Santa” on the Omegle text function and then handing out presents to people in 2013. I gave a Levi Ackerman some socks and Slenderman chocolate. After a while, I ran into someone named “Rudolph” and then we had a dramatic reunion lol.

I used to mess around on there as a kid and thankfully, the worst thing i saw was some guy touching himself. I had this thing that let you replace the camera with random images. Had some guy telling me to "show me your pussy" so i kept changing the camera to various photos of cats.

Lots of indian pps. My favorite experiences were seeing people from other countries react to an american girl using omegle. (specifically indians and africans) Some indian guy literally called his entire family to show them me and they were staring at me like i was a unicorn, it was hilarious. My darkest experience was when i was about 12, seeing this white guy in a black hoodie and dark room asking if he looked ugly, i said "you look fine to me" then i proceeded to show off my drawings and plushie collection. He chuckled a little bit and said something like "thats cool, you just saved me from doing something terrible. Have a good day" and skipped. Never knew what happened to him afterwards but it gave me a knot it my stomache, but i was sort of happy i made him happy. Honestly im glad they shut the website down, ended generational trauma.

As a kid that was in a home full of domestic violence, emotional and sexual abuse I spent far too much time on that side and saw/did far too much

When I turned 18 (I'm 31 now) I was celebrating my birthday with my best friend and for shits and giggles we went on Omegle, after going through the usual dongs, bewbs and whatever else we met 2 guys from Arizona, they were both 19 and we're looking for cool people to talk to, we noticed they were drinking (so we're we) and we asked them what they were drinking and they show us a bottle of JD and I hold up my own bottle of JD with a "no waaayyyyyy!" We talked for the entire night and they even sang me happy birthday. I hope those guys are living their best lives right now, they were so awesome :)

My worst one was someone outright sexually abusing a baby around 6 months old. I was maybe 14 at the time and on omegle with a family friend, and was absolutely horrified. It was absolutely terrifying

When I was 8 or 9 I came across Omegle and decided to try it out, one of the people I came across was 2 people 2 men sitting across from each other, it didn’t take a 9 year old to know that they were incredibly drunk, they took out a gun, and one of the guys pointed it towards their heads and asked me “give me one reason why I should live” and I said “to have a beautiful wife” etc he nodded in approval and decided not to do it, they then skipped me. Scariest moment of my life.

Not me, I never used Omegle, but my exbf once started screaming in a whatsapp groupchat that he was never using Omegle again. My ex was about 15-16 at the time, and some creep sent him a video of said creep sexually assaulting a girl who couldn't have been older than 2. I forgot how or why, but about a year later that situation got brought up again, and my ex said, and I quote, "I can still hear her screaming and it haunts me"

i'm a 16 year old girl and when i was 10 i frequented the site a lot. i was exposed to my first and only sighting of uncensored CP on there, groomed and in relationships with men who were over the age of 30 and i frequently engaged in nsfw activities on the site with these men, some even older than 60 until i was 14. what i thought was a fun and cool way to make friends turned out to be one of the most traumatic events of my entire life. i am eternally grateful and happy that this site will be forever shut down because no kid deserves to go through what i went through. these men were able to take advantage of me because i was vulnerable and wanted attention + friends. omegle being shut down is one less outlets for these monsters to take advantage of children the way they did me.

I'm so glad i've gone through all my years never having touched that site, I was always tempted by the videos of makeup effects artists dressing up as scary creepypastas and scaring the shitlings out of people. I'm glad I realized it wasn't all giggles and laughs and made sure to not let my curiousity get to me. Maybe Omegle can be reborn in a way that allows the platform to be used in good intention, and not just a hotspot for all of the worst people in the world.

I used to wear the unicorn horn and purple glasses and have dance parties with people. Sometimes I switched out glasses, I showed off my rock collections, and I started a watermelon cult with over 40 people. I also messed with a bunch of weirdos. I will absolutely miss it, but also I went on there a lot when I was feeling very lonely and vulnerable and I was absolutely taken advantage of multiple times as a young girl. I’m an adult now. I still have the unicorn horn and I still wear it in public proudly.

Met a person who went by the name Pluto. They told me they were an aspiring author who was working on a book. We talked for an hour about random things like explaining the plot of their story and our favorite tropes and it was really pleasant. What made it worse is that I was a minor at the time and I get a feeling that this is a method child porn is collected. Some kids might not think to leave the chat and want to save the animal by exposing themselves. I honestly don't know if what I was being shown was live footage or pre-recorded. It's possible the person would have stalled the killing as to make kids think that this is the only way to save the bird, but I don't know.

When I was 12, some old man forced my friend and I to do some really messed up stuff. We were scared, so we did it. I feel bad because I'm not even sure if she's alive anymore. Last time I talked to her, she was doing drugs and had agoraphobia. I really hope she's ok. I'd go see her, but I live on the other side of the country since I moved in 2014. I'm clean almost 3 years now, but I have agoraphobia too. Ironically I met my boyfriend just a week after my birthday and the night before my birthday I almost overdosed. I got to help him graduate from college with his bachelor's, and he's helping me with my mental health. I love him so much, we video call 24/7 and I visit him twice a year. This year I got to see him 3 times, first for Valentine's day, and my birthday, second we went to Austin Texas for a work trip, and recently we went to NYCC together ❤

The weirdest thing I ever saw on the site was a person in an (admittedly very well made) foxy costume around when fnaf 1 had just got super popluar. I tried to say hi and tried to talk to them for like 5 minutes but they never said anything just looked creepily into the camera sometimes tilting there head slowly from side to side. The only question they answered was me asking if they made the suit themself to which they just slowly nodded. I got creeped out after a bit and then just skipped them.

When I was around the age of 12, I watched videos where people would go on Omegle and find some really chill and funny people, I went there in the hopes I could have a nice interaction but one of the first few people I met was a shirtless Indian dude. He told me not to leave and explained that he had his shirt off because it was hot, which is reasonable, India is a pretty high temperature country from what I know. I stayed and we talked for a bit and he brought up the fact I was wearing a medieval looking dress. I had gotten it for my birthday recently. He asked me to stand up and do a spin and I did so because I wanted to show off my cool dress. Then the weird questions and things came. He asked me if he could stand up and I thought maybe he meant he wanted to get something like water, a snack, maybe even turn on a fan… I agreed, turns out he was completely naked with a boner, he sent a message in chat saying “my little soldier salutes you”, he started asking me to take my clothes off and I kept reminding him I was a minor and this wasn’t appropriate behavior. I eventually clicked off but that really disturbs me to this day… He was 34 and I was 12, he’s easily twice as old as I was

I thankfully haven't had the extreme experiences aside from a few dongs since I didn't use Omegle much. The weirdest thing I've experienced was a guy introducing me to hentai for the first time as a prank and another person posting a link that just led to a Jeff the Killer jumpscare site. You type a question, then it gets two strangers to debate the question as you watch, unable to interact with their chat) and made a riddle to pose to them. Paraphrase, because I don't remember exactly how I worded it with the character limit. "You wake up in a room with the other person sitting across from you. There's a gun on the table and a drain underneath. The door will only open once blood is spilled." I only got one response that was 'I pick up the gun and shoot the other person'. Most people got creative with it ("Just shoot yourself in the hand or something so no one dies", "Take out my tampon and let the blood spill", "How can it tell that the liquid is blood? Can you just piss down the drain?"). I was having fun until the two strangers in one chat started talking about their mental health problems (I think it started out with a "I would shoot myself before I shot the other person") I distinctly remember one saying "I don't think the person who made the question is even paying attention at this point", and since I couldn't chat, only watch, I couldn't say I was still there. And man... I went on there to ask a riddle. I didn't expect to watch two strangers discuss depression and thinking about killing themselves while I couldn't say anything to reassure them. I left the site after that. I was 14.

A few tricks I learnt while using omegle (Ik its been shut down but there will always be sister sites and this would apply there): 1. use very specific tags and to know if someone's actually into the topic you ask questions and if they take too long to answer they're googling it. 2.If you're a minor skip people who are more than 5 years older than you no matter how nice they are. 3. If you're a woman dont immediately put F in the chat or avoid people who ask asl right at the start altogether cuz they were all creeps imo 4. Avoid video chats or if you do use it put a piece of paper on the camera and only take it off if you feel comfortable with the person. Still wear a mask or something because your face can be misused with deepfakes 5. NEVER give out your phone number, avoid snap/ig too or use a burner account with fake details I did all of these and got paired with some pretty cool people some of whom I'm still friends with. Ps if you're below 15 don't even venture out to these sites because they know how to fool kids.

Swear to god, back in maybe 2010-2011 I was on Chatroulette with my best friend. There was the usual dudes wanking and stuff but after a few minutes we were matched with the Jonas Brothers. As soon as they finished playing, they thanked us for listening and apologized for having to cut things short but they had to move on so they could speak with other people! If you have a friend showing you videos of minors, doing social activities, make sure to inform them of the law and tell them that they should delete it because it’s illegal.

I lived in the middle of nowhere, town with a population of 500 and my parents gave me literally no activities to do during the summer so I spent most of my childhood on Omegle for 6+ hours talking to random people. I was so depressed and had no contact to the outside world so Omegle was my way to meet people. When PayPal came around I started flashing people for $ on Omegle. As an adult, I haven’t used it much, but my husband and I sometimes go on there and perform act for adults for fun. We met a Veteran in distress with no one to talk to, and we talked him off a ledge. We saved a veterans life. I will never forget that 😳

The scariest memory I have of Omegle was I was trying to meet up with people in my town (because I just moved) so I added this person on Facebook back in 2022, and he was talking about this woman and kidnapping her, I blocked him immediately and he gave me her insta or whatever, I texted her saying to watch out for this weird guy and we were on call, and then I hear glass breaking and she hangs up, so I instantly called the cops, and I never heard from them again (I told the cops it was an anonymous tip) it’s crazy I don’t know what happened

I've had some pretty heartbreaking interactions on there. There's been multiple times where minors were actively trying to get groomed/preyed on by adults and i had to sit there and tell them how they could get people in serious trouble by doing that and each time i got the similar response of "idc its my body." Really fucked, kids need to stay off the net.

OMFGGG I SAW THE UPTOWN FUNK GUY TOO

I used to use it when I was 15 and something disturbing i saw was a minor 13 yr old with an older man doin it on cam, and he said "would you like fo see more?" I quickly skipped but it redirected to back them really quick multiple times, i shut down the computer and never went back there for 3 years.

Story 19: I used to do things like that. I liked the challenge of finding people on anonymous chats or forums and would give them a heads up if I could find them. Mostly between 2010 and 2016, kind of gave it up after that. Part of me wonders if it was me that scared them straight. I wouldn't be surprised.

There is a bit of nostalgia but I'm glad that it's gone. Is this Stockholm syndrome?

I have some good memories with this (Omegle) I remember using the chat one, yes I was underaged for this website many people where. But I did talk to someone who was I think from Egypt . It was pretty cool to talk to that person.

Jeez I was only recently wondering what the deal is with Omegle, from watching the special effects prank videos on youtube. That site should've been shut down a week after it started. Think about all the untold stories with real victims, most of them were probably minors.
