I think the way this works is when an intruder sees this 'lock' on a door he knows there can't be anything valuable behind that door and therefore not worth bothering.

Thank goodness we live in 21st century and many excellent security products can be easily purchased in a local hardware store at a relatively low price (definitely lower price than a welder and a grinder combined).

I was always taught that a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. In this case we are looking at the screws that are screwed into the door and the adjacent jamb which anchor your door security devices. A good kick from a size thirteen boot will get the person into your space. The next weakest link would be the welds that you use to assemble the component parts. Most of the welds are basically “tack” welds. A simpler tool for this purpose involves drilling two holes through the flooring close to the door. Please ask Mom before you drill holes through her floor. These holes should be around 1/2” dia. And six inches apart. Bend a piece of 1/2 inch mild steel into a “U” that will into the drilled holes. A cross piece can be welded across the U on the door side of the U to stop the bar from dropping too far down. This will also cause the stop to tighten against the door. The overall length can be adjusted to suit your preferences. The next place to be concerned about are the glass windows or the bullets that come through the door if you are on someone’s “get” list. Some of your devices could benefit from having a piece of 1/8” mild steel plate on the outside of the door with square holes to allow carriage bolts to fasten your latch to the inside of the building. Your thoughts are quite good, but do have some weak points.

This is pretty cool but I can go to any home improvement store and buy a lock just like these.

What I want to know is. If it locks automatically, how do you get back in the house? You can’t unlock it from the outside.

Measure the bottom of your door from ene to end, cut a piece of 2x4 the same length, drill 2 holes through the 2x4 and deep into the floor, insert 2 10inch bolts through the 2x4 and into the floor and good luck to anyone trying to kick in your door. If you want to get cute then also add a handle to the 2x4 to easily lift that board in and out of place. Grandfather was a NYC Cop and taught me that. Cheap and simple solution to secure your entry way while you sleep.

It was really cool you were able to make the combination lock with just some random hardware and a few tools (albeit tools that most people don't have), but for the amount of effort, and the cost of the tools, it would be more efficient and effective to just get a digital security lock and a deadbolt. Also just nitpicking here, but the double negative in your video title actually suggests people would be able to get into your house.

Está muy ingenioso, seguro se le ocurrirá algo también genial para el caso de abrirla por ambos lados. Es decir desde adentro y desde afuera. Eso lo estoy necesitando, especialmente las cerraduras que solo abren con llave desde afuera y por dentro tienen un gatillo. Son muy incómodas para apenas salir al jardín tener que tener la llave o si el viento la cierra.

La primera no puede abrir de adentro alguien que no conoce la combinación, o no la recuerda, queda encerrado en caso de emergencia. La segunda y tercera si salis se cierra y no podes volver a entrar.

La que tiene la argolla se podría utilizar una versión en miniatura para hacer broches para collares o pulseras.

Interesting, but I see issues. 1) Any movement in the locking mechanism allows more sudden force to be applied to the lock, and 2) The lock is only as strong as the attaching fasteners and what it is fastened to. It would be exceptionally easy to force those doors so that the mechanism completely detached from the wood frame. A door needs to be held tightly against the frame and the frame needs to be made of meta, plus incorporating heavier fasteners.

Amazing would love to see a lock for the gas cap on a generator. They don’t make any and gas is being stolen due to high gas prices. Just thought some ingenious lock would be great! Thanks

Great fixits. My only suggestion, take at least one 3 unit welding class at a community college. Fun, meet people, learn destructive bend tests. Good to go. My 2 unit introductory welding class evolved into 25 units of arc and gas welding, with a 1" steel plate vertical welding certificate.

Quiero creer que se me escapa algo, porque me parecen tonterias. El primero no tiene sentido ninguno. Al no estar en bloque, solo tienes que ir girando la primera (la mas cercana al tornillo, la que tiene hueco para desplazarse) hasta que pase, despues la segunda y despues la tercera, 5 segundos máximo. La gracia de un candado es que no se mueva hasta que todos esten en la posición correcta, si estan sueltos no cumple porque no hay combinación algúna. Y suponiendo que lo solucionaras, solo son 216 combinaciones, por fuerza bruta lo sacarias en pocos minutos. Los otros dos, mucho rollo para algo que en cualquier ferreteria, al menos en España, te cuesta unos pocos euros. En cualquier caso, estoy seguro que en cualquier pais te costaria mucho menos que todos los materias que usas, maquinas a parte y el saber usarlas. Video absurdo... En cualquier caso espero que te hayas divertido haciendolo, al menos eso te queda... Un saludo.

I enjoyed the high-speed assembly footage, which conveyed all of the necessary information and kept the viewer engaged. Good work: very clear and concise. The final 2 products, if used on each door, made me think that "they" would have trouble getting in, but also the owner would be locked out as well. Maybe I missed the point. Either way, I appreciate the cinematography!
