Although skull crawler smart he didn't notice kong's hand making a fist.because the skull crawler thought that his tongue would win against his kong arm and the task of his tongue was to swallow.when kong pulled his hand out of the skull crawler's mouth. The skull crawler was shocked because his tongue could not swallow up Kong's arm. because Kong's arm is so strong that he doesn't just pull his tongue alone but with the skull crawler organ he also pulls because his tongue sticks to other organs

I do love that this shows how intelegint King truly is. He sees these people trying to help him or at least doing their best, he gets out but finds a more efficient way to attack the skull crawler by using the propellor.
