Keeping dogs as pets at home in islam is not allowed. Although we can keep them as security or guard.

As long as the dog doesn't lick them and they get the dog's saliva on them, it's fine then. I think Loren's husband uses the dog as a guard since he lives in the forest which is okay in Islam.

There isn't specific dog ban in Islam neither are dogs haram, there are just specific rules regarding them to ensure cleanliness. And it's rude to question whether someone "cleans up after themselves". Don't assume negative things about people.
