If George Harrison had done nothing else besides make this thing he would still go down as one of the shining spirits of our time. Even without Monty Python, much less his own music (when you add the Beatles to that it is truly incredible) -- and I don't think the ending is tragic, I actually think it's triumphant. _We_ are watching his Hamlet and in a sense the artist's audience is always imagined and always evanescent -- Mozart said he wrote Don Giovanni "for twelve of my friends"

Gosh... ive always felt the ending IS tragic. Only found out the other day, that originally the ending had Withnail taking his own life... not sure how true that is.

Apparently he was to fill the barrel of a shotgun with wine and do the deed. Since the real life inspiration for the character lived a long life, I'm content with the ending they went with.

I watched this for my first time when I was 16 when I started smoking hash and my brother came in with it one Friday night so I got stoned got a pizza and sat and watched it honestly iv never laughed so much it were fkn great iv never saw any movie come close to this they were the days 😊

1:20 he's got a point. i have seen and heard what happens when people mix their drinks and how that ended was with someone ending up in the hospital. best case scenario is what withnail does at 1:24.

Richard E Grant was the 9th Doctor in 'Scream of the Shalka' the new Doctor Who web animation that was was then made non Cannon as the live action one was announced during making. So for a short time, this was the 8th and 9th Doctor go on holiday...

Drinks liter fluid. "Liar, what's in your toolbox? You've got antifreeze'. "You bloody fool,.you should never mix your drinks The whole film is perfectly balanced and you see deeper layers each time you watch it. You can't just watch it once. It takes you on a journey with each run through. It starts out as a comedy but it's actually a tragic tale really.

Does anyone remember a cut of Withnail and I where Danny has said how Law rather appeals to him and a spaced Withnail finds it hysterical... Marwood is fretting over the landlord's threats and Withnail laughs, "Give it to my solicitor" in reference to Danny? I think THAT was my favourite line but i havent seen it for twenty years! Mandela Effect???!!

1:05. Fuct up film fact. That's real lighter fluid Richard E. Grant is drinking. The container was originally full of water but director Bruce Robinson switched it for real lighter fluid and didn't tell the actor. Grant's reaction (and subsequent vomiting) is real. Which is exactly what Robinson wanted. Guerilla filmmaking at it's best. Lol. 😆
