The early film has been has been edited to show what they want you to see, it does not show when jhonson looked over his right shoulder an smiled the guy in the group smiled an gave him the big wink wink nod nod, like a 1960,s high five.

I heard that LBJ said he couldn't delay being sworn in as the United States would have been without a President had he waited until they landed. An immensely sad day for all concerned, and when Johnson said in 1964 that he would give all he had, to NOT be standing before the crowd as President, I believe him totally. To entertain the idea that Johnson was happy about what happened in Dallas is not only absurd, it's obscene. In difficult circumstances, he did his duty.

I guess that you simply choose to ignore the photo showing LBJ smiling to the tall man in the bow tie (Al Thomas - Rep from Texas) and that man returning LBJ's smile with a wink. All while standing next to a shell-shocked Jackie on Air Force One in her blood stained pink outfit. Yes, this photo is notably absent from the video above, but it exists.

Johnson handled the situation brilliantly. I cannot conceive of any way he could have better comported himself. Every gesture was appropriate, every action, excruciatingly difficult, but necessary. The nation was fortunate to have at that moment, a man of Johnson's political and social capabilities.

What you said 3 years ago shows that you were delusional and your statement is totally ludicrous. I hope you've opened your eyes by now. Did you ever wonder why the Vietnam War started right after he took office? A great man. Yeah right! Responsible for the death of more than 58,000 US soldiers in Vietnam. Who knows how many disable soldiers came back and not in one piece, more than 2M Vietnamese killed for a war that that small country had to go through and its people who did nothing to France and the US.

@@albertopalma1663 the thing is, LBJ never wanted to be President. He only signed on the ticket in 1960 because Kennedy begged him and he wanted to help beat Nixon (which Kennedy NEVER could have done without him). He would have easily won re-election in 1968 if he had ran, he would have beat Nixon worse than he beat Goldwater

No Wonder LBJ was so kind and helpfull in the time after JFK"s murder, even asking her to stay at the whitehouse for a time because she was an innocent victim in all of this and despite his scruplelessness and ruthlessness must have deep Down inside there somewhere felt a sting of bad conscience concerning Jackie knowing that he was directly responsible for her loss, suffering and grief.

@@alexia4240 can you prove it? Or is the only reason you believe that the fact that LBJ succeeded Kennedy? You “believe” he was involved? Do you “believe” Andrew Johnson was involved in President Lincoln’s assassination? That Chester A. Arthur was involved in Garfield’s assassination? Do you “believe” Teddy Roosevelt was involved in President McKinley’s assassination? I really wanna know. What’s the reason for your belief? Read body language: Johnson’s right arm clenched tight, unable to hide his guilt. Mrs.Johnson thinking: is that why he ducked down before the first shot was fired? Jackie: disbelief, shock, fearful about what information she knew prior to that day.

Remember, too, the sense of chaos and unknown, and at the height of the Cold War. Most everyone believed Johnson needed to be sworn in right away for unambiguous continuity of government -- but the duty was his as soon as Kennedy died..

Because the United States cant be without a President. When a leader dies what happens if the country is attacked? We had a bunch of enemies at this time including Russia. This could have been an opportune time for someone to attack us and No one would be there to command the military. The President's first and primary job is to be the commander in chief. Hes not in some ceremonial position.
