I took the Gen 2 WK-180C out to the range at 100m to see what would happen with several different types of ammo. Can the Gen 2 180c shoot? Let's find out.

Only problem , you wont be able to install EOTech sight or magnifier that have quick detachments , Vortex UH-1 gen 1 & gen 2 also wont fit if they have quick detachments. And that's because 1913 rail sits too close to top of the receiver. My suggestion to Kodiak Defense is to shave off some of that material at an angle on top of receiver so it gives more space between rail system and receiver.

Kind of curious are you using a 5 round pinned 20 round Mag? It's totally legal to use a 10 round AR15 pistol magazine in that firearm if you weren't aware not only that you can couple 210 round AR15 style 10 round magazines butt to butt so you have 20 rounds accessible to you by simply flipping the magazine after the first 10.. And you can buy a pack of 2 of these 10 round mags as well as the adapter for roughly $70 Canadian. Understand you at the range and potentially just got this rifle so happy had to invest in AR magazines for it but just thought I would put that out there as I was shocked to find out it was legal.

I’m not too impressed with that. I paid half of that for my SKS and it will shoot as good as that if not better with Chinese. I always chuckle when guys asked about the gen 2 and totally doesn’t think about the sk sitting on the shelf that you don’t have to wait months to get. Russia or China doesn’t make shitty ammo I compared a old Russian surplus and a new Russia civilian and mid range Chinese surplus and the Hornady as well and the Hornady was the only one without a Boat tail and the shortest of the 4 despite being the most expensive. Before you call bullshit I have witnesses and proof. I feel comfortable out shooting any WK at any range. Even the civilian grade Chinese shoots very well. I love hearing people say “you can’t shoot that far you have an SKS” then I out shoot them at 200

Let's be honest, speaking about rifles and shooters are two different things. I dare say that there are a lot of inherent features to any AR styled rifle that make them much more capable compared to something like the SKS. Not the least of which is that a barrel swap for something significantly more accurate is easy with a 180c. This doesn't mention any of the other advantages to the more modern design compared to the SKS. Either way, if you like the SKS, then I'd suggest you keep shooting it.

In this video I was using a Busnell Trophy 3-9x. It is a very entry level optic, but worked just fine for shooting out to 100m for testing. I've had a few different optics on this rifle, including: Vortex Strikefire 2 Red dot, Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x LPVO, and currently I have a Vortex Viper 3-9x. For versatility, I have liked the Strike Eagle 1-8x. It's a nice entry level optic. I am also enjoying the Viper 3-9x and I think it's a good budget mid power hunting optic. I haven't experimented with higher end optics on this rifle, although I am eagerly awaiting the Apex Optics Edge 1-10xLPVO for one of my other 180 platform rifles. Which you should get depends on what you want to do. The red dot is nice if you dont want magnification. The LPVOs are great for blasting up close, and magnification for longer distances although it has a dot reticle with a xmas tree for longer distance hashmarks. If you're mostly doing longer stuff, and not blasting, then a mid power optic can be nice, or if you want a BDC or crosshair reticle.

They have a flawed piston design. There are things you can do to mitigate it, but having a second piston on hand is not a bad idea. Other than that, it's minor stuff. @bs_podcast
@bs_podcast 2 жыл бұрын
Frankly, it's held up quite well. I had the gas piston snap on my a few rounds ago, but I was sent a replacement at no cost. It was not a major issue, and I am aware that pistons have snapped on both the Gen 1 180c and on the MCRs. Overall, I'm quite happy with this Gen 2 rifle. I will have a full review coming out in the next few weeks that will recap everything, including my piston replacement. Thanks for watching!

@@bs_podcast I'd appreciate that, been thinking about buying one. Would love to hear what you have to say about it, especially how it relates to the MCR. The MCR has certainly been touted as the more durable of the original, but id be interested in seeing how your particular rifle has held up to x amount of rounds.
@bs_podcast
@bs_podcast 2 жыл бұрын
@@nehocdrofsnop For sure I'll put one out. I have a lot more experience with the 180c than the MCR, but I have been paying a lot of attention to both, and I have a Spec180 lower on one of my 180C uppers. If I'm being honest, I think that the MCR has had a better PR team, I don't actually see any significant quality differences between the internals of the two rifles. The MCR had some design upgrades, which is an inherent benefit of being released after the original, but I'm confident in saying that the Gen 2 has closed that gap. I'll be sure to give my full thoughts when I release a full video.

The highly gassed nature of the gas system on both WK Gens and the MCR in combination allow the rifles to eat poor ammo and function in extreme cold. However, there is a great deal of force impacting on the system. If the gas block screws are loose from factory, or loosen with time from the impact , the gas block can rotate out of alignment. The resulting torsion stress on the piston op rod can bend or snap the piston. The original AR-180 and modern alternative R18MK2 use a rifle length, multi-part flexible op rod that has more give and thus is more forgiving then the single piece WK/MCR op rod piston. This is why some WK's from the factory can self-destruct within a thousand rounds, as their generally poor QC in concert with their larger numbers means more loose gas blocks are missed then on the MCR. The same thing can happen to the MCR if its screws are loose from the factory, and both can have this eventually happen if the properly torqued screws loosen from the carbine length highly gassed impact on the system. The gas block's screws need to be either peened in place or have high temperature thread locker like Rocksett applied to them so they do not move. A note that Loctite will not work for this, as the gas block's operating temperatures will turn it back to goo with the heat and then powder when the system cools, as noted by Brownell's on their AR-15 and Loctite video. With the gas block aligned and secured properly, the WK has been reported to have been run for many thousands of rounds without issue; its basic operating system has been reproduced in various AR-180 descendent firearm designs, and has proven quite reliable.

I was wondering about the gas system on the Gen 2. I read online that it had a mid length gas system where the Gen 1 used a carbine length. Is the gas system different on the Gen 2?
@bs_podcast
@bs_podcast 2 жыл бұрын
The gas system is different in terms of the gas regulator and gas key, but it is still carbine length and .750 journal. True North Arms sells an after market rifle length kit for the 180c that would work on the gen 2. Sterling Arms, to my knowledge is the only rifle length 180 platform rifle currently in circulation.

The bulk UMC ammo isn't bad. It always goes bang. However, I've never had it shoot particularly accurately. Typically between 4-6" groups at 100m in everything from ar-15's to multiple 180 platforms. I generally keep it for run and gun blaster stuff cause it's just not amazing at distance.
