2014 owner here, second owner of it. Finally about to hit 100k. Thankfully havent had any major issues with it. I've come to know these rides inside and out, fixing all the little things that are common with them like valve cover, water pump, PCV, various coolant system components. Once you have all these things updated, these are GREAT cars.

I have a 2014 Cruze myself and it's at 86k. Turbo and oil cooler need replaced already no thanks to GM forgetting to take out the plug for the oil like that goes to turbo from oil cooler.

Japanese cars also support American jobs, while being made with way more quality than American cars, except Mazda which is actually made in Japan and then shipped over. A lot of American cars are actually made in Mexico and Canada. The ones made in Mexico usually have the worst quality. Ones made in Canada are better quality than America and cars made in Japan are the highest quality in the world!

2:53 Over 1000 cars go through here everyday? Lets say they work 5 days a week and there are 22 actual workdays in the month. Wouldn't that mean over 22k cars for the month? How is this possible when the Cruze has been selling around 10k units per month? Jan. 2018 had 9425 units sold. Maybe some cars go out and then come back in if something is missing? Maybe thats where the 1000 daily figure comes from?
@onenonlyproductions70865 жыл бұрын
A car company is gonna make more supply then what they currently sell, so they aren't on back order. Its also possible they make more than Chevy Cruzes, and they just focused on that Also this video is from mid-2016, so you'd have to compare to how they sold that year

I have three Cruzes. I do not own them for the quality as they really are poorly made. It amazes me how these car companies cut corners as much as they can. And for a person like me who has been working on cars for 24 years, they are like most others. They car looks good on the outside, but they cut the paint in all the cracks as much as possible. And anyone who lives in a city that has road salt knows metal with barely any paint on it rust very fast. These cars have a major chipping problem with the paint. But when you have people who are spoiled and only hold on to cars now a days for three years, why would these companies invest on quality paint?!! They used to care about being proud seeing their product still on the road after 10-15 years. Now it is all about turn and burn car and making sure no one holds on to these long. It is ALL about money to them, not pride.

The Cruze is a total POS, especially the 1.4 turbo. And to make matters worse, GM knowingly and intentionally put a chemical in the coolant that destroys the engine, called DEXKILL. I've seen a lot of low mileage GM engines destroyed by DEXKILL.
@mk4commandwolf6 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate more on DEXKILL?
@geraldscott94466 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. First of all, I have been a professional mechanic for a large city fleet services department for 37 years, and have seen plenty of engines damaged/destroyed by this stuff. GM calls it DEXCOOL, and they use it as a coolant. Now, it is not unusual these days for all automakers to have their own special coolant. Though I have never seen anything that worked better than good old green ethylene glycol. Virtually all these different brands of coolant are mostly ethylene glycol anyway. And I have never seen or even heard of any problems with any of them. With the sole exception of DEXCOOL. DEXCOOL starts out as a liquid, but turns into a solid inside the engine. It becomes a brown, gooey, waxy substance which plugs up all the coolant passages in the cooling system. I have seen engines where the water jackets around the cylinders were almost completely plugged with it. There is no know way to remove it. Nothing known will dissolve it, so it can't be flushed out. Apparently this stuff was not designed to be exposed to air. But that makes it worthless as a coolant. All coolant is exposed to air, not only when you put it in, but on a daily basis. When coolant expands inside the cooling system, the excess gets pushed into the reservoir, which contains air (the "empty" space above the coolant below the top of the reservoir is air). When the engine cools down, air is sucked back through the reservoir pressure cap, so the liquid coolant can get sucked back into the engine. (the cooling system is under pressure when the engine is hot, then it is under a vacuum as it cools down. Coolant expands and gets pushed out, then contracts and gets sucked back in when it cools off. So it is constantly exposed to air. This is what causes DEXCOOL to solidify inside the cooling system. It can be difficult to find leaks with this stuff, because it immediately solidifies on contact with air. I have seen huge globs of this stuff on a surface below a leak, but no liquid. It's possible they intended this stuff to act as a stop leak. But it didn't work. And GM knows it. They continue to use it anyway. It has been used in all GM vehicles since 1996 to the present. Mechanics call it DEXKILL or DEATHCOOL because of what it does to engines. If you have a 1996 or newer GM engine, I strongly recommend flushing out all the liquid DEXKILL that might still be in there, and replacing it with Prestone OAT formula. ON older engines it is likely too late. I was able to save the engine in a 2013 Chevy Sonic about a year ago. I spent about a week flushing out the DEXKILL with distilled water, and replaced it with Prestone. Some damage had already been done. I had to replace the water pump, thermostat, water outlet assembly, and a couple of sensors that had been coated in solidified DEXKILL so they no longer worked. This is some BAD stuff. Back in the early 2000s, there was a class action lawsuit filed against GM by tens of thousands of GM vehicle owners whose vehicles had been damaged by this stuff. They won, but then GM declared bankruptcy, and nobody ever got paid. And GM went right on using it.
@mk4commandwolf6 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the thorough explanation! I wonder if my 2018 Cruze has DEXCOOL in it or not, but I will definitely check now after reading your explanation and watching a few youtube videos. Thanks again!
@geraldscott94466 жыл бұрын
Yes, your 2018 Cruze has DEXKILL in it. It will be red. Just look in the coolant reservoir. I was able to save my bought used 3 year old Sonic 1.4 turbo by flushing all the DEXKILL out of it. It took awhile. You can't drain out everything out. I drained out a gallon, then replaced it with a gallon of distilled water. Ran the engine long enough to mix the water with the remaining DEXKILL. I just kept doing this, about 20 times over about a week, until I was sure there was nothing in the engine but distilled water. I then got a gallon of Prestone OAT concentrate (designed to be mixed 50/50 with distilled water) and poured it into the system, along with the 3 qts of distilled water that were already in the engine. A little more than 50/50, but it worked fine. I'm going to drain out a gallon every year, and replace it with a 50/50 mix of fresh coolant and distilled water. That should keep it clean forever. In your situation, with a car still under warranty, you might want to drain out a gallon of DEXKILL every 6 months and put in more DEXKILL, until the warranty expires. I've heard of warranty claims being denied because a vehicle did not have DEXKILL in it, even if the problem had nothing to do with the cooling system. Prestone OAT is recommended for ALL GM vehicles, including new ones. But if a dealer can find a way out of doing a warranty repair, they usually will.

I have a 15 year old GM vehicle. I've owned it for over 13 years and 130,000 miles. It has always had Dexcool in it. Never had a problem. I do a drain and fill every 2 years.
