To throw the parents off. If you saw a black man in your living room your first though might be that your child is buying drugs. If your child said they bought something with their allowance and uncovered said black man you all of a sudden don't know what to think. Then you don't give them time to process the situation by making him play the drums. You keep the situation up until they leave and by the time they come back all they care about is whether he's gone or not. Their mind is so far removed from the possibility that you're buying drugs it won't even cross their mind. They'll just be relieved. It's the oldest trick in the book but it only works once (trust me, the second time I tried it they caught on pretty quick...)
