This WLtoys 20402, 1/20 scale 4WD monster truck was sent to me by RCmoment.com.
- 4WD drive with metal driveshafts
- Ball bearings all around
- 7.4v, 500mAh LiPo battery
- Standard 3 pin RC servo
- 2.4GHz remote with receiver / ESC combo
- Powerful brushed motor with heat sink
- Wheelie bar
- Independent suspension
- Plastic chassis with lots of aluminum reinforcements
- Claims to run 45+ km/h
What I like:
- Extremely quick for its size (yes, it really requires a wheelie bar)
- Metal drive shafts and CVDs
- Metal center drive shaft
- Aluminium skid plates in front and rear
- Aluminum top brace
- Ball bearings all around (except motor)
- 3 pin standard RC servo
- Frame design with two separate compartments for battery and ESC / receiver
What not:
- ESC / Receiver not waterproof. You can do it by yourself: • WLtoys 20402 "Pocket X...
- Fine gravel can mess up pinion / spur gear and rear bevel gears. Easy fix for this problem in this video

This little truck is very quick, but requires a couple of reworks, before you drive it in fine gravel. I still recommend it. I hope you like this honest review.

Nice review buddy. Thanks for posting the 3d printed gearbox cover. I have a friend who can print that off for me. I agree with you it's a great truck and I haven't spent much time looking but i haven't seen spare parts, it would be great if there were.

Thanks, man. You should add the cover as soon as possible, if you don't want gravel inside the gearbox. Maybe you can do a little installation video and report back, if it is useful for you. And yes, it's a shame that we can't find spare pars.

Hi. Thank you for the sharing! Great review! A have the 20404 and I had the same issue with dust in the gear box. After 3 month what is the feedback of the protection you added? It is definitively solved your issue? Bye!

You're welcome. The heavily damaged bevel gear failed in the meantime, but the cover works fine. No gravel inside anymore. You can find the details in this follow up video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5h6nZZ0v7XPh58.html

Awesome video as usual... question : in your opinion which one did you prefer ? The A979B or the 20402 ?

I prefer bigger models, so the A979-B. The 20428 is a bit better built, it has less backlash in the mechanics. But the unprotected gearbox is a bit of a problem.

I ordered spare parts through AliExpress but they were kinda pricey. Almost better to get a car for parts. Any recommendations for oil shocks?

Awesome review and great bashing! ! That little truck hauls !!! If I was 2 buy one , what would you recommend doing to it ? Besides sealing the original gearbox. Keep up the great videos! ! Be safe,God bless! !

Thanks for the praise and for the good wishes. Sealing the gearbox and waterproofing the receiver is about it. Everything else is fine in my eyes. If you want to buy one, you can find a discount coupon in the description.

No, but the gear mesh is ok as it is. The problem is, that fine gravel can get inside the gesr box. So I made a 3d printed cover

What do you think about using HC-12 SI4463 in your Micro RC project? Great video as always

Thanks. This module uses a serial connection and is not pin compatible with the nrf24 module. Of course the software could be changed, but what‘s the benefit? Everyone uses 2.4GHz radios nowadays

It would be possible, but I think it doesn't really make sense. It's already fast enough in stock condition.

Weird thing is that I have entered "WLtoys 20402" and it has found only the cars, no parts.
