My 6th Great Grandfather was a Sergeant in the militia of the town of Harvard Massachusets. He was a Minuteman. He and his unit Responded to the Lexington Alarm, April 19, 1775. Later, he was at the first battle of Saratoga. Along with his then future son in law, my 5th great grandfather. My 2nd great grandfather, from New York, fought with two different Illinois companies on the Union side of the Civil War. My maternal grandfather was a farmer and was exempted for WW1. But his so, served with the Navy in the Pacific in WW2. Also during WW2 my Dad was Army his brother was Navy, Sunk by a U-boat in the Greenland Sea in early 42 while Naval Armed Guard on a Liberty ship. He survived, lost toes to frostbite. Was picked up by British Navy ship. 3 firs cousins. 2 cousins of that maternal Uncle served, 1 Navy, 1 Army in the early 70s. I was USAF. Active, reserve, and 73-78 & 83'86. I was R&D and coms. Never fired a weapon except a .38 revolver during ROTC field training..well and my personal shotguns plus borrowed .22 rifles.

I went 4 years ago and had the opportunity to meet and talk with Alvin's son. The ranger told me the family comes to the home place museum often.

I'm a WW1 reenactor that has been there a couple of times, sure I portray a German but it's still an amazing experience.
