Courtesy: Dave Sharp
97.9 WNCI Columbus, has spent much of it's life, since the 1970s as a Contemporary Hit radio station. This aircheck features on of WNCI's popular weekend shows, Seventies Saturday Night, which ran back in the 1990s. It features Dave Sharp.
Feel free to check out some of the many other videos on the Ellis B Feaster's Radio Channel! Established in 2008!
One of You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of radio airchecks, and many from my friends as well.
You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away. Lots radio recordings from the 1940s, through the 2010.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here!
We also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also! Find me on Facebook: / ellisairchecks

One more thing. I was in Columbus in 1993-94 and this brings back memories of delivering pizzas in southside on a Saturday night!

In this aircheck, we are testing the modulation opportunities of the Orban Optimod 8200 from the WNCI FM broadcast facility. Broadcasting from studio A on level 2 of the Nationwide Insurance Building One in Columbus, Ohio. A straight coaxial connection from the studio to the transmitter on the building's roof. (Addendum) Phone calls were edited on an Otari MTR-12 1/4 inch stereo recorder. WNCI had them in all of the on air and production studios. Tape was hand edited by myself while the previous song is playing. No 360 Systems digital phone recorder yet. After this, I went on to JAM Creative Productions, Dallas, TX to hand splice 15 ips jingle master tapes for radio stations on MCI studio recorders. Got my practice in while on the air.

@davidsharp3110 It was a great song back in 1976. I was in the US Marine Corps stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, and in love with a local girl in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

"70's Saturday Night", what a flashback! That was neat, there really is "alot to remember"! Man, I forgot that Captain and Tennille song, wow, all those years ago. The Sweet's "Little Willy", recognized that in the 1st second! Some of the people that called in might have been drunk or 'not all there', it WAS a Saturday night afterall...3 of the guys that called sounded "off", the 'Forrest Gump' guy was one of them, 'Stumbling guy' was the other-unless he was a "plant" and it was scripted. @16:20 "Earache My Eye" Cheech and Chong! This was a "gas" man, it's amazing how a collection of certain songs strung together can make a vivid picture of one's childhood! That last guy Tim, who had a request, having all those names to dedicate to and told not to list the whole town! 😆 Great again Ellis 👍🏻

We had 70s Saturday Night on WNCI a lot in the mid 90s in our house. My mom grew up in the 60s and 70s so this was her era. During the same time, WNCI had Friday Night 80s and Sunday Night 90s and I often had those on! Good times! I also forgot how blasted most of the callers were when they called! The equivalent "oldies" shows today would be Friday Night 10s, 00s Saturday Night, Sunday Night 20s.

@@davidsharp3110Speaking as someone born and raised in Columbus, whatever you did worked. By the mid '90's, Saturday evening had become the only time I would tune my radio to Stereo 98. (Yes, I used the old branding, even then.) I've heard other stations try the "Seventies Saturday Night" concept, but in my book they failed. I think it was because you used jingles which very easily sound as though they were authentic to the '70's and they didn't. The jingles added to the aesthetic. One wonders if Clear Channel will ever allow Stereo 98 to bring the program back. Oh, that's right! We're talking about Clear Channel. They'd probably never go for it. After all, look at what they've done to 1230 WCOL/WTPG. That's now WYTS, which has become the umpteenth all-sports station in Columbus.
