For her latest and eighth album, The Littlest Prisoner, Jenny Scheinman returns with a new batch of country and folk songs elevated with the rich atmospheric production of Tucker Martine. Recorded in a mere three days, there's a raw urgency to Scheinman's songs -- as if captured off-the-cuff on a back porch -- but enhanced thanks to some sterling work from guitarist Bill Frisell and drummer Brian Blade. Songs like "Brother" or "Run Run Run" or "My Old Man" carry an oaken and ethereal timbre perfectly suited for quiet sun-soaked mornings and open-ended drives as dusk. My Littlest Prisoner is another superb and tuneful entry from Scheinman -- and perhaps her best collection of songs yet.
Watch Scheinman, Frisell and Brian Blade play "Run Run Run" live in the Soundcheck studio.
