With WOAI-TV debuting new graphics in July (of last year!!) I got quite busy, and other projects got in the way. But at long last, in honor of longtime KMOL/WOAI anchor Randy Beamer and his upcoming retirement tonight I figured now was the appropriate time to give this a much needed update. KABB will follow very shortly (will start work on it next week).
Some of the changes you'll see in this video are the new, current opens, as well as some newly uncovered stuff. Also, the order of opens has been corrected (mornings come before evenings now) and some teases have been shortened to keep the pace of the video going. Finally, San Antonio Living, Sports Sunday, and Sports Nation opens, if available, have been thrown into the mix.
The following video features various news and talent opens, as well as "bump-outs" to commercial from NBC affiliate WOAI-TV (KMOL-TV from 1974-2002) from c. 1979 to present.
WOAI-TV was the first on-air in the market, but since the 1970s has historically either been third, fourth or fifth in the ratings at any given moment, with the occasional second place finish. Yes, there have been times when Univision O&O KWEX has beaten WOAI-TV.
