I stayed away from Days Gone for so long even though I purchased it the morning it was released, mainly due to all the negative reviews from critics. I started playing it about a week ago, and it has single-handedly been one of the best gaming experiences I've had in recent memory. There's a reason it has a 93% Very Positive rating out of 50,000 reviews on Steam - it's actually a very good game.

We play games to escape from reality. And lately there is a lot to get away from.

I was a journalist reporting on this as far back as 2014. They ran my name through the mud and worked extra hard for 5 years to cancel me until I quit from the stress. Glad to see mainstream folks waking up to this.

They always try to add stuff to a game that does not make sense for maximum profit and to please everyone in hope to reach wider audience and thus more profit. It never works. Most of them never have played a game!

As you get older... you start to realize that nothing will top the games of old... and replaying them endlessly is more enjoyable than over 95% of new games on their first playthrough.

The gaming industry is being destroyed by not just the woke, but also monetisation. The industry is a shadow of what it was when I was growing up.

I bought Day's Gone on a sale recently and this game is totally underated, it has a fun gameplay, interesting plot, captivating characters, amazing graphics, when i finished the game i was like "man, why i never heard much about this game?"

Funnily enough, being a white dude myself, I often change my game character to (A) a woman and (B) of different ethnicity. Why would I want to be "me" in the game? My real "me" is a boring slouch, not a dashing hero, so I'd rather be someone else in the games I play. This insane need of modern devs, film makers etc. to make sure their audience "sees themselves" in their product is really baffling to me.

I love how they warn us beforehand by labelling the movie/show/game as "diverse" or "modern adaptation" or even "for modern audience". So we can skip them alltogether. Thanks for that!

I love Days Gone for everything. Atmosphere, graphics, hordes, bikes, gameplay mechanics, that @ss of the protagonist's girlfriend... On the main subject though: it's laughable how some marginal groups(with money and power) are calling us normies "marginal groups" nowadays as soon as we start talking.

One of the things I love most about gaming is getting to be something I'm not. Super Mario Bros. is a classic, and it never would have been if only plumbers played it. I don't need to look like a character to relate to them. Just the other day I watched Family Matters for the 1st time since I was a kid, and to my shock I saw so much of my personality in Steve Urkel of all people. I now strongly suspect that Urkel had a profound impact on me, helping to shape me into who I am today, but I am not black or even male. None of that stuff matters. It's all about who the character is, not what they look like.

Another game I noticed that has gone woke is Assassin's Creed. I remember the old games would have a disclaimer saying how the game was worked by people from different religious beliefs and multicultural. Now they added sexual orientations and "gender identities".

I'm a 56 year old female who as been playing video games since Pong. So I think I have a right as an elder of the genre to say that most new games suck and I replay all the great oldies with gratitude and glee. Days Gone is the last game I purchased recently that was worth playing and replaying again and again..good taste girl! I think game developers or Hollywood directors aren't dumb; We just need to go for the money. There is obviously huge funding to support them adding "Woke" content in their games and movies, knowing well that it's going to upset most "normal" viewers and seriously affect their sales. So, the funding they receive for "Woke" content is high enough to recover any significant loss from their sales. The question is, why would the "Woke" movement spend so much money to push forward their agenda, trying to force everyone to accept their ideology? What's their end goal?

Easy solution: Just dont spend a single dime on woke media. :)

I used to work at Riot games and would say the problem is very multifaceted. We used to be a pretty normal happy company until gaming journalists (specifically Kotaku) did multiple exposes on the 'sexism' inside our culture. Now, I'm a woman and Kotaku actually set up a call with me to talk about my experience, and I told them it was great working there and felt it was more meritocratic than anywhere else I'd been before Of course they didn't include that and continued to speak to current and past employees to find whatever they could to fit their narrative Now what company WOULDN'T have disgruntled employees, or instances of racism/sexism when you spoke individually and privately to past employees?? But this was used as a basis to organize a massive culture shift , and you can bet this impacted the game design decisions as well (which are usually made specifically by game designers btw, not developers)

I used to work for a big developer of a very famous AAA game and I can tell you that the Studio heads were totally afraid of their employees. 3 major things happened I think to cause this. The introduction of aggressive DEI and zero tolerance harrassment polices, a shift to give employees more of a voice, and the addition of Diversity officers and departments. This led to the leaders relenting to any ridiculous idea or criticism of game content that ultimately harmed the product. The diversity team, and I'm not making this up, had as part of their initiatives a system whereby they could look at any content going in the game - from character models to sound effects - to make sure they couldn't offend anyone. I remember on one occasion an employee of color in a very low status position finding fault with one line of dialog that presented a black character in a dubious light and boom the next day the line was cut and we had to rerecord the line costing hundreds of thousands of dollars - actor, new facial capture, editing, etc. But the line was actually really cool and gave the character more depth. But no it had to go because it made the black guy look bad. There was also pressure at the Publisher level to become more woke and hiring writers to reflect this. It was a ww2 game and yet there was constantly directives from on high asking us to find ways to have women and people of color in the story. To force that in rather than just telling interesting stories. The average dev in the trenches was most likely not down with this but afraid to put their heads above the parapet for fear of being terminated. I could write pages about this.

I loved Dayz Gone…for me…one of the best Zombie Survival Games I’ve ever played along side Dying Light 1 and with regards to entertainment in general I don’t need matching skin tones and body parts to enjoy and/or empathise.

Tbh, I've never been homophobic, racist, insensitive or any other way. I never had a problem with anyone and never judged anyone by any criteria other than their direct behavior towards myself. However when I see all these things shoved in my face, it's starting to get to me. Do they realize that they are starting to create a problem where there was none? I mean, I get it, we weren't aware, now we are, so enough already. I have a very good friend who is gay by the way, and with whom I used to play CoD until he saw the flags in the game and the reactions on social media. I mean...c'mon....

the spideman flag thing was disgusting. they went really hard against that guy, banning him from everywhere. even the big guy from nexus made a very "fuck off and leave if you dont like it" statement (he also made sure no one could reply to his post). and all he did was change the region of the game, but sony never took any flak for making their own game prideless for other regions of the world

Days gone was an amazing game with a post apocalyptic world. The world is similar to many others but does have its own unique spin on a few aspects. Specifically the focus on biker gang survivor groups. I loved the horde and trap focus on a few the personal story. I did a 100 percent completion

It is so bizarre what has happened to professional reviews. I used to ignore audience scores and go straight to professional movie critics for an accurate take on a movie. Now it is literally the polar opposite.

I loved Days gone. Beautiful scenery the bike dynamics are a fantastic compromise between accuracy and fun and the panic when being chased by 300 screaming zombies when you only have amo in your pistol left is awesome.

The fact that the person called the Days Gone world "drab" tells me all I need to know. It had a beautifully crafted world with cascade forests that were gorgeous during the day and creepy as hell at night. Your bar is in an old fire tower, and it has some great ambiance for a place your character is only at shortly. One camp you do missions for is at a summer camp surrounded by a huge lake. There's a military base surrounded by water, and the base is built into and into the side of a huge mountain. The story itself is so good! I felt engaged and wanted to see Deacon find his wife. The characters don't seem like much at first, but when you really take the time to settle into the story, you learn that each one of them is different and unique. A huge contrast to a lot of side characters in video games today. This game and its developers ABSOLUTELY deserved better. These critics robbed us of a sequel and I will never forgive them for that.

I would like a new ESRB rating that signifies woke ideologies. I prefer not to be surprised when I purchase and download a game that will PISS ME OFF because I’m supporting a bunch of delusional developers that have their agenda in mind rather than my entertainment.

I’m a brown guy from a developing country, and I have a personal issue with the critics who trashed Days Gone. Me and my little nephew (I’m 31 and my nephew is 10) played and bonded over Days Gone like no other activity! Watching him bash in the heads of kid zombies with a baseball bat was the best thing ever! 😂😅 We even started calling each other Deak and Boozer. Not once did we think that these people (on the screen) were different from us. It was a game and we enjoyed it!
