The internet was set ablaze after a Super Bowl ad about Jesus washing the feet of progressive activists and more went viral. Thankfully, this woke (and factually incorrect) depiction of Christianity was answered by an appearance by Christian actor Mark Wahlberg encouraging EVERYONE to pray this upcoming Lenten season.

They missed the point of Jesus's message. Jesus did not wash the feet of the Roman soldiers. He did not wash the feet of the Pharisees. He did not wash the feet of the teachers of the Law. He washed the feet of forgiven followers who would later die for their faith in Him.

His disciples: If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. On the night before his death, Jesus washes the feet of twelve disciples, including Judas Iscariot; on the night of his betrayal, he feeds all twelve of his disciples, including the betrayer. 'For I have given you an example', he says to them, 'that ye should do as I have done to you'. Jesus teaches the church to wash one another's feet-that is, to sacrificially serve others even in ways that we might think are beneath us. And his ultimate foot-washing act would be to go to the cross for the world. But this lesson is not only about our willingness to do a dirty task. Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.” 8 Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.”e 9 Simon Peter said to him, “Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Whoever has bathed* has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all.”f 11 For he knew who would betray him; for this reason, he said, “Not all of you are clean.”g 12 So when he had washed their feet [and] put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, “Do you realize what I have done for you? 13 You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am.h 14 If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.i 16 Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger* greater than the one who sent him.j 17 If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it. 18 I am not speaking of all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But so that the scripture might be fulfilled, ‘The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.’k 19 From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM. 20 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

Jesus is not a political pawn, but the son of God, which transcends time. His purpose in demonstrating forgiveness was after repentance was sought for sins against God. All the people in the pictures do not seek forgiveness based upon the laws of scripture but based upon the man made designation of the oppressor. God is not subjected to fashionable definition of the good and the bad.

@@Kindisbetter Nobody here made the argument that Jesus is a political pawn. Perfect example of a straw man. How do you know what the people in the pictures seek? You are God to see into the interior life of all you come into contact with or even just see a picture of? Your last statement is also a straw man since nobody here made that argument either. Jesus told His disciples that if their Roman oppressors told them to carry their gear a mile they should go two. All the disciples at the time of Christ washing their feet were sinners in need of daily repentance just like everybody pictured in this ad. Christ did not wait for them to be perfect to eat with them, to converse with them, or to love them. He loves us so that we can change not because we change. Everybody needs to get rid of their ideology of a right-wing or left-wing American Jesus. Blessings and goodbye!

I think one of the things we forget is that one of his disciples became his enemy: Judas, whom he still called friend. Yes, Jesus did wash Judas' feet. In John 13, Jesus first washes all of his disciples' feet (John 13:3-11). In fact, in verse 11 after washing their feet he says that not all of them were clean referring to Judas. Then he in verse 21, after having washed Judas' feet, he predicts Judas' betrayal.

This is the reality of the situation; “And a woman in the town who was a sinner found out that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house. She brought an alabaster jar of fragrant oil and stood behind Him at His feet, weeping, and began to WASH HIS FEET with her tears. She wiped His feet with the hair of her head, kissing them and anointing them with the fragrant oil.” (From Luke 7. HCSB. Added emphasis.) We serve the Most High King, we worship on our knees, at His feet. We may wash the feet of others metaphorically by serving, sharing the Gospel etc. That’s it, that’s as far as I’ll go.

@@MelanieNLee Agreed. However, sometimes a painful reminder is what it takes. If a person thinks they are good, why would they need the gospel? Just like a doctor offering me the cure to a disease I don’t know about or think I have. It helps when I acknowledge my sins, and why I need/needed forgiveness, salvation. Discernment, wisdom, and obviously prayer, are what we need to know the difference. Listening to and looking for the prompting of the person, and the Holy Spirit, usually gives us what we need to not clobber anyone. Wouldn’t want to be a clanging cymbal or banging gong 😉🙃 Law to the proud, grace to the humble. Many people I come in contact with already know they’ve sinned, no reminder needed. Some actually think they are good though. Once the standard of good is elevated to perfect (God), most acknowledge they fall short. This is when grace, the gospel is presented. Never argue, always be kind, and never forget it’s God doing the real work. We are to be loving, humble messengers, carriers of the good news and truth only 🙂

Real Christianity is not a religion - that is a myth. A religion is a belief system or a formula that you follow with your life. God does not like religion or - He does not want us to "simply believe He exists" or always follow a strict formula with our lives and call that being saved. What He wants is to have a relationship with us - constantly having two-way conversations with God and taking time out of our day to spend with Him. And ultimately, we need to be willing to do whatever He asks us to do an any moment - no matter what is costs us, or how much it doesn't make sense to us at the moment, because He knows way more than we do, and is always telling us what to do in a parental way. But there is often no specific formula to what He asks us to do - religion often gets in the way of having a true relationship with God, or doing whatever He asks at the moment, hence why God does not like religion. Just so you know! 😉

@davydigger708
@davydigger708 Ай бұрын
@@billb.7346 I can explain. This took me a while to figure out but I am getting the hang of it. God does not typically speak to us in an audible voice - only on some rare occasions has He done that. There are many ways God speaks to us, but the most common ways are through our thoughts, through other people, and through the Bible. Sometimes, God will put a thought in our head, either randomly or in direct response to a question we ask Him. Sometimes, we read the Bible and something jumps out at us. Sometimes, God will use another person to bring a message to us, or speak to us through a sermon. One helpful tip is that the Bible is always accurate, so if something stands out to you in the Bible, it is usually God speaking to us, unless we are misunderstanding it. However, sometimes when I get a thought in my head or another person says something to me that might be a message from God, I sometimes have a hard time telling for sure if it is really from God or not. Usually, in that case, it is best to read the Bible and find out if that thought or message aligns with Scripture or not. That is a highly effective way of distinguishing what thoughts or messages are actually from God. Another is to find a person who already knows how to clearly hear from God, and ask them what they think about it. Sometimes, God repeats the same thing through multiple sources just to confirm that it is really Him. For example, I have a question about something, I ask God about it, I get a thought that might be an answer, and the next Sunday, I hear a sermon in church that tells me the exact same answer - that usually makes me feel confident that the thought was from God. Sometimes, depending on what God wants to do, or depending on how distracted/clouded our minds are at the moment, if we ask God a question or ask for direction, He will give us an immediate answer, and other times, it may take a while before you get an answer. But if it does take a while, don't be discouraged, keep seeking, check your thoughts to see if you are really listening, and you will eventually get the answer you are looking for! Sometimes, it is not always the answer we expect or hope for, but it is always for the better! Hope this makes sense. If you need more clarifying, I am more than happy to get it!

@lauracook7608. This is what the Bible says in John 13:1-30. There is no question that Judas was there. “Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.” Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.” So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’ Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.” When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.” Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke. Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor. Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night.” ‭‭John‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ bible.com/bible/114/jhn.13.1-30.NKJV

There is a real spiritual aspect of why Jesus washed the disciples feet: Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! This was done right before His trial and crucifixion. John 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. 18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

No person on earth is without sin. Obviously His followers (the Apostles, disciples etc.) were not without sin. Jesus did not randomly wash people’s feet, and definitely didn’t wash the feet of those in power (Romans, Religious hypocrites, those that did not come to Him…). He washed the feet of those nearest to Him, sin and all. Jesus is not ok with sin, hates it, it’s why He was crucified. Jesus does not approve of or condone behavior that is unloving, harmful, not in line with the creation prior to sin entering creation etc.

Further, when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, He told them (and us), “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you” (John 13:15). As His followers, we are to emulate Him, serving one another in lowliness of heart and mind, seeking to build one another up in humility and love. Part of that humble service is to forgive one another (Colossians 3:13). When we seek the preeminence, neglect to serve others, or refuse to forgive, we displease the Lord. True greatness in His kingdom is attained by those with a servant’s heart (Mark 9:35; 10:44), and they will be greatly blessed (John 13:17).

WOW! I find it ironic that an ad saying Jesus didn't teach hate is getting so much hate from Christians. Jesus said we are to be a servant. To serve our neighbors. "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Galatians 5:13-14 It does not say, 'You shall love your Christian neighbors as yourself' When Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, it was to show them He wanted them (and us) to be servants. "12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." John 13:12-17 Jesus was also symbolizing that He washed away sins by His death on a cross. So why wouldn't we as Christians wash the feet of sinners?

I call it standing up to evil, not "hating". So if I call the city of Las Vegas "Sin City" like most of the world does, then I'm being hateful? That's ridiculous! Most all Christians know what sin is. Just because we don't want our towns and cities to be another Las Vegas doesn't mean we are being hateful. When someone wants to build a bar and strip club next to an elementary school, what do we do? We stand up against it and say "No!" All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. So when the evil people behind these kind of ads start pushing their agenda of homosexuality, transgenderism, abortion, drugs, alcohol, criminality, racism, destroying traditional family and values, etc. onto me and my children, then I will take a stand against it, just like any good Christian with morals, integrity, and faith should. Being a Christian is a choice, not something that someone is born as. The only way to be a Christian is to give your heart to Jesus and to put your life in God’s hands. You have to believe that God loved people so much that he sacrificed his own son to be tortured and then murdered on the cross so that we could go to Heaven and be worth God. Christianity is not a religion, rather it is a personal relationship with God. You put your trust in God, put him first, love him and others just like he loves you. Rituals, good deeds, going to church or being a good person does not qualify you to be a Christian. All people are born as sinners. So unless people choose to become Christians, they will not get to Heaven. I hope that makes sense! :)

It was after this where Jesus said, “That man is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He took and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. After this, Satan then entered him. Therefore Jesus said to him, “What you are doing, do it quickly.”” (v26-27) Judas was indeed there when Jesus washed the disciples feet. Most Christians who are criticizing the commercial saying, Jesus didn’t wash unbelievers feet are missing the whole point of the commercial. Whether Jesus did or didn’t, which we don’t know since scripture does say that not everything Jesus did was written down. But we do know he always reached out in love to the lowly, to the sinner. The commercial is about loving others where they’re at, just like each of us are loved regardless of our behavior. Also an interesting fact that most critics of the commercial have missed, is that it’s portrayed that not only the believer washed the unbeliever’s feet, but they too likely had their feet washed by them, as their shoes were off as well…showing that the unbeliever returned the loving gesture. Let’s not love in word only but in deeds as well…if we don’t love, we are only like a loud sounding brass & obnoxious clanging cymbals.

Symbolically, sure, serving each other, humility, I can agree with this. As to boldness, Jesus most definitely presented Himself as superior on more occasions than can be counted. Part of the reason many of the hyper religious Jews (not only the Pharisees) and leaders wanted Jesus taken out was His bold claims of authority and even equality with God. Many complaints were sent to Roman authorities about Jesus claiming to be God, in direct conflict with Caesar being god. His humility was matched by His boldness. There was absolutely a pattern to the images in the advert. Do Christians need to reach out to the unsaved? Absolutely. Do we need to lie, alter or otherwise obfuscate the truth? Absolutely not. Should I feel bad for the sins of the past, of others? No way! You want to wash the feet of others? Try using your turn signal or putting the shopping cart in the corral. And as far as Jesus “getting us” 🙄 If God had not condescended to our level, being fully God and fully Man, I’d argue with this. The audacious idea here is not that our Creator understands the creation. It’s that this is what matters more than the idea of our hopeless existence apart from Jesus and that we need to get Him 😢

Jesus also flipped over tables of money changers, chased sinners out of the temple with a whip, unashamdely called religious leaders of the time hypocrites, and cursed an unproductive fig tree so that it whithered and died. Jesus loves the sinner, but he cannot accept sinful behavior.

@@LLCebuRider in 1896, my great-grandmother was born. In a few week's because of the Supreme Court's decision of Plessy vs Ferguson reminiscent of the day's of Slavery regarding The Dred Scott Decision of 1857 about us Black People Not being Citizen's of The United State's therefore we had No Right's. Justice Roger Tanney or Tinney? said We weren't Citizen's therefore one held in Bondage could not sue Their Owner's and yet despite a 13th amendment in affect that did not matter too The former Slave owner's and Slave Owning State's enforcing The Whole Slave Systen heck Wall Street got started because of African/& Indigenous People's being forced to be Slave's because of that 1857 Supreme Court decision with regards to Dred Scott the words on The Book's the Supreme Court referenced too resulted in Their decision regarding Plessy vs. Ferguson. Which then ushered in The Jim Crow System which until then was unspoken and done openly but still under the radar within The South. This decision affected The North even with its version of Segregation in The North. There were still places where Black People absolutely could not go around Any where that White Communities thrived are prepare for lethal bodily harm. Matter of fact Philadelphia, PA itself had A Jim Crow System in place aimed towards Black People (okay the German and Irish Immigrants got hit with Jim Crow Laws too), Philadelphia just didn't have a Name for it yet, at the time, it was enforced Institutionalized Segregation. But, back too my great-grandmother born in 1896, my great uncle born 1913, my great-Aunt born 1916 and my grandmother was born in 1919 all within The Jim Crow South. While the terrorism was a daily occurrence (in fact two great-great uncles of mine were Lynched in Shreveport) it didn't matter what happened people's whose European ancestry hailed from diverse place's in Europe. They could torture and kill us with impunity and No Law would bother too stop the killing's. But, then this brother man come's up with a Song in the wake of Mass Race Riots Whites attacking Blacks up North, The South murdering black people like it's a walk in a park, that Red Summer as James Weldon Johnson coined it Black People defending themselves. Is inspired too write His People Me and my family something that reminds us of pride and joy even in those most Trying Time's in such traumatic History But our People survived Slavery We can survive this what's going on around us (also America was getting so out of control Other Black American's did leave America for parts and places in Europe England and France the most popular locations of choice. James Weldon Writes this poem that soothes our soul's and remind us that thing's are gonna be alright and so come's up with the poem known today as The Negro National Anthem/The Black National Anthem Lift Evry Voice is coined and We have Hope again. If anyone actually bothered too hear Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr deliver The I have A Dream in D.C. 1963 speech which is on ytube right now Dr. King himself mentions The Negro National Anthem, so in the 70s my mom's generation tried too do away with Segregation right? Well in The 70s at The Black Caucus in Indiana for some reason I have no clue why they opted too go to Indiana and have that convention but the first song The People all--gathered too Stand and Sing wasn't Oh Say Can you See which by the way celebrates Our Enslavement within The Verses since of course Baltimore, Maryland in addition too being a 13th colony was a proud holding Slave State. This is the State where both Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman were both born in as Slave's. So The Black Caucus in The 1970s sang Lift Evry Voice and Sing. For Us and our Soul's it remind's us there is still hope for tomorrow.

Jesus didn't ask US to be "perfect." He was "perfect" for us and died for us so that we could be "perfect" before the Father. We cannot be "perfect" by ourselves. When the Father looks at US, He sees Jesus' "perfection" only if we accept Jesus as our only Savior. That's what the Bible (His word) tells us.

This is actually called The Social Gospel. It was first got started Historically in The Black Churches following The Great Migration into the Northern Cities. Black America were fleeing The Jim Crow South and moving to the North in search of a better life. However once arriving in The North Black American's quickly found the same challenges they'd Faced in The South and had left too get away from was taking place up North. So what took place with Black Ministers and church Congregations was a form of ministry dubbed The Social Gospel. As an example like the time in the scriptures when Jesus fed the 5,000 with those 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread? Before that occurred The Disciple's were tired weary of The People who came too hear Jesus teach The Crowd. They suggested that Jesus should send The People away so they could go and buy food for their families and then go home. Jesus response mostly too Philip was the They don't need too Go Away, You Give them Something too Eat, Philip puzzled how to feed every one mention's there's a child here with 2 fish and 5 loaves of Bread. Jesus instructed the disciples to prepare the crowd to get some food to eat and then that's when after Jesus prayer The 5,000 were Fed that day. We know in Luke the fish and loaves of bread were once again multiple and again Fed too a Massive Crowd listening too Jesus. My point of these 2 examples is that in The Social Gospel of The Black Church They set up Food programs too address the hungry. The Black churches had a ministry dedicated to serving the newly arrived Southern Refugees too the Northern Cities in finding them jobs. They hosted Job Fair Ministry for those seeking work, Clothes Ministry/& housing ministry. An above all else Sermon's that inspired messages too take a stand against The Injustices experienced by Black America. This is how Organizations first Niagara Fall's then much later Become's NAACP there was also N.A.A.CW National Achievement Advanced for Colored Women. Oh that's right Jesus did Feet was washed by a Harlot at Simon The Lepers house which Jesus accepted by rebuking Judas for insulting the woman who poured expensive perfume on his head and Feet then washed She washed Jesus feet with her hair after pouring the perfume on to The Saviour's Feet. As for Jesus washing The Feet of Judas yes the very one He rebuked for going after The Harlot who Anointed Him before His crucifixion with expensive perfume. An of course Judas Iscariot would betray Jesus that night after The Last Supper. Even knowing this Jesus still washed Judas Feet. So this Superbowl Football ad is The Social Gospel. Any wants too know more about Social Gospel if anyone had Amazon Go too Amazon Prime and Look up Dr. Henry Louis Gates. Jr The Black Church ⛪:This is Our Story. It touches on Social Gospel ministries historically.

As my friend said and I so agree… This is the commercial that aired during the Super Bowl and is causing an outcry from some Evangelicals. Every time I think I’ve seen the ugliest side of religion, along comes some putrid situation like this. Let me get this straight - you believe Jesus would die for people whose feet He would refuse to wash? God, help us. It’s no wonder the “nones” and “dones” are growing in number every day. To those who see the self-righteousnesses being vomited up online over this, please don’t lump us all in the same pile. Many of us who follow Christ believe their outcries blaspheme the very God they claim to defend.

You are missing the point. Jesus wouldn't refuse to wash anyone's feet, but this commercial has AGENDA written all over it. It is too wide open to interpretation. Some could think He is confirming people in their sins. Others could see it as He loves everyone. Jesus was very clear and never ambiguous. He said, "let your yes be yes and your no be no." H e also said to repent of sin. He loves everyone, but does not love sin.

@@lisayappel4029 The spokesperson for the commercial said, ““Our goal is to really show that Jesus loved and cared for anyone and everyone”. Not sure how that is an “agenda”. The negative reaction I’m seeing from Christians reminds me of the prodigal son story. Christians being so negative and even hateful about the commercial reminds me of the elder brother who was angry that the younger brother was being treated so well. And I’ll say it before anyone wants to argue that…I realize the prodigal apologized, but remember, the father threw himself on the son Before any apologies were given. God reaches out in love to all mankind regardless of their present sin. It’s so sad to me that Christians are behaving so un-loving about this commercial, knowing that so many unbelievers are seeing these attitudes and say to themselves yet again, “and this is why I want no part of their religion”. Reminds me of what my granddaughter told me that a lot of students at her HS say about Christians, “There is no hate like Christian love.” How sad. “If we don’t love, we are only like sounding brass & a clanging cymbal.”

The Superbowl spots could not have been more off track bordering on heretical. Totally out of the context of the Biblical text. The statement "to wash one another's feet" was specifically targeted to be a Christian to Christian/disciple to disciple display of service to one another as a show of unity in Christ. Believers were never admonished to "wash the feet" of those who were non-believers, let alone those who were hostile to Biblical precepts that are the cornerstones of Biblical Christian faith. Biblical love does not condemn but it does not condone or compromise objective truth as stated in the text of Scripture. Talk about real inappropriate appropriation...

I understand what you're saying, but Jesus did wash Judas' feet. If Judas wasn't an enemy, who was? And you can't love God... or even your neighbour... until you first receive his love. We love him BECAUSE he first loved us. I took it as... meet people where they are at and then, when they find out Jesus loves them, they can come out of those dark places. However, I am not ambiguous about Jesus being King and Lord and Savior and worthy of worship and that He is God, not us, and I am not into greasy grace that says all sins are fine. But... when someone is down in the muck, they need love and a hand to pull them out... some of them are so wounded... and the Bible says... "A bruised reed he will not break and a smouldering wick he will not put out." If there is the least little spark in there, I want to fan that gently because... I want that fish... I don't just want to puff up me and say, "Well, at least I'm not a big sinner like they are."

He washed the feet of the apostles. It was a show of humility, hoping to teach the apostles to be humble. To reach out and do things that maybe considerer "beneath" them. Not a bad idea to promote today... What troubles me is, that everytime some new way comes out to pull people closer to faith, we have to jump on them screaming NO! THATS NOT RIGHT! Why do we not emphasize the good parts as opposed to tearing it all down because of a small imperfection? By all means! Correct the imperfection! But do you really have to do a character assasination of the entire piece? It's like telling someone who's going to have an operation, "I will pray for you!" and they respond with "I'm not really religious." Do you think that's going to stop me from praying for you??? Do you not want the aid and grace of God, even if you don't want to believe in his existence???
