I was so relieved that PB wasn’t totally destroyed after hearing this song again. She seemed more understanding, like “do what you gotta do”. Like immediately Marcy made up with her. Or tried to. Either way, bubbline is still together. Also, as angry as this song is, it was soooo good. Seriously, marceline is probably THE BEST musician in the universe.

Wow. Just imagine this. Your girlfriend breaks up with you. She sings an absolutely brutal breakup song. She sings it, to your face, in front of everyone. But on top of everything, its an absolute slamming hit of a song. Catchy too. Imagine having your girlfriend's breakup song stuck in your head for weeks. You catch yourself humming it, and then realise what you're humming. Damn.

The facials expressions in this are FAN👏TAST👏IC👏, Present PB doesn't care about showing her pain on her face and present marceline you can see she's uncomfortable singing it but doing it because she has to. Whereas young PB looks fine to everyone else and only expresses hurt when everyone turns their backs and Marceline is hiding her hurt between fake smiles and eyebrows that reveal that she's hurt

I'm shocked by the amount of people defending Marcy and saying it was PB's fault in their break up. I love Marcy more but I would be harsh too since she literally said she was okay with the mass death of a race just because PB was busy trying to save people and not giving her attention. Marcy had the right to eventually get mad that PB is more into her work than her but to have a bitchfit when lives were at stake was just horrifyingly insensitive.

I think it’s really awesome how great Marceline is at coming up with lyrics on the fly, considering that there’s no way she wrote and prepared these lyrics before their first attempt at keeping Larvo at bay.

The power and weakness with this song truly reflects the show’s morals. Above everything, the creators and the characters value truth in *everything.* For example, with the door lord and the wall of faces (don’t blame me, I forgot the episode and titles etc etc) that could only be opened with a true melody, the only thing that worked was... A) Marceline’s distasteful rhythm of PB and how PB’s behavior has reflected negatively on Marceline (to whoever’s fault that was) B) Finn’s sweet melody on how he wants all of his friends to be together and he felt confident in saying so. The reason the song didn’t work again because of the lies it spit out. Both characters grew together AND apart, allowing them to find themselves and each other. To get the truth, you are required to face the things that are trying to catch you. Only then can you live in peace because life without stress and pressure is one that is truly peaceful.

The whole thing is tragic. Bonnie has trauma over her "family" nearly putting her through the gum golem equivalent of a lobotomy, so she's spent all this time building a kingdom populated by unintelligent people out of fear; her trauma gave her control issues. Then you have Marcy who has abandonment issues. First her mom abandons her, she meets Simon and he abandons her (granted he was honest about why he had to leave), her dad was never there, everybody was afraid of her, and finally she meets Bonnie. Someone who can be there for her and take care of her. And Marcy is someone intelligent who can be family to Bonnie, someone she can trust. But their issues wear each other down over time until they have a bad day. Bonnie gets fed up with Marcy's rebellious streak and pushes at her, trying to demoralize her out of frustration, probably hoping that Marcy will apologize and tone her behavior down, but it backfires, as Marcy interprets this as yet another person abandoning her, so she snaps and pushes back even harder, singing a devastating song that brings Bonnie to tears and ends their relationship. Then they spend a long time apart, and despite this rift that's between them, Marcy still worries that Bonnie might get hurt, and that she won't be able to protect her because they can't face each other, and Bonnie keeps the shirt that brought them together, unable to let go. It wasn't until Marcy opened up about her feelings in _What Was Missing_ and Bonnie admitted that she never let go of the shirt because it meant _so much_ to her that she couldn't let go even after a devastating break up, that they would finally start to heal. And all of this happens over a timeline spanning centuries. Finn probably doesn't know it, but by being a mutual friend to both of them, he played a big role in bringing them back together. If he weren't around, they never would've had that opportunity to open up to each other.

I'm seeing people say Marcy was absolutely awful here, and they're right - she acted like PB was in the wrong for wanting to stop a genocide. But Marcy wasn't the sole problem in that era of their relationship. The way I see it, PB probably started ignoring Marcy in favour of the kingdom a while ago by the point of the first Woke Up. In thr Varmints episode Marcy asks PB why she stopped talking to her. If that was AFTER this song, then it'd be obvious. Marceline ain't stupid. So that must've been before this. So think of it from Marcy's point of view for a moment; PB starts ignoring Marcy in favour of the Candy Kingdom. For the first time in likely years, PB finally leaves the Candy Kingdom, so Marcy goes with her, wanting to spend time with her. And then PB focuses more on the glass people than Marceline. Now remember, Marceline's felt abandoned over and over. Her mom, Simon, Hunsen, and now PB. She sees abandonment as normal, and she doesn't want it to be her thrown aside this time. Marcy wants PB to choose Marceline over the Glass People. And instead, PB tells her to go away, and that she didn't want her here. And then the breaking point. "Monster Trash." Remember, Marcy at this point hasn't heard her mom's message. She still thinks her mom just ran away because Marceline is a monster. Monster is essentially a triggerword for her, and as we see in the flashbacks? Marceline decided that if people are going to leave her anyway, she'll make them leave. She worries that PB will leave her, hears that trigger word of sorts, and snaps. And then comes up with fucking killer lyrics on the spot.

And the award for best diss track is 🎶I’m so glad that I woke up🎶

Ok, but with all of the sound effects it just feels way more powerful

I’m so happy this was included. They both have grown so much as individuals and together, like they are both so different now then when they were more or less “teenagers”. The breakup wasn’t just because of one of them, they were both immature kids that needed to grow up more, and in this you can see how much they really have. I truly love their entire relationship, they are meant for eachother, even if it took some growing up and life lessons for them to be able to be truly together.
