I love the bug type's image of having a lot of weaknesses to overcome but being capable of greatness when placed in just the right niche. It feels like such good synergy between mechanics and narrative. One of my all time favorite types to use.

Fun fact: The Scizor I used to Top Cut Salt Lake City Regionals, got removed at Round 2 for having the wrong Special Attack Stat.

Personally I really love these "Best Pokemon of each Type" videos as I dont play competitive myself but really enjoy your content and learning the History of the Competitive Scene is really interesting since I didnt start watching you until after ScVi came out. It's kind of like this series is going in casual gameplay order. You covered the starters. Then the bugs so common in early game. I guess next would be either flying or normal, since those are common wild pokemon in the early game.

Bug types might not be the most powerful Pokémon competitively but since gen 5 and especially since gen 7 they have become one of the most fun types to use during a playthrough. Their diversity in second typing and design has made them a lot more interesting than in the first gens where there were few stand outs that were often crippled by very shallow move pools among other issues.

The amount of shock I went through seeing Leech Life be turned into a decent move non-bug types were running in gen 7 was only beaten by the fact that I was actually thinking about using the new bug types without knowing stats and moves. They were just that awesome looking

Aesthetically speaking, bug types have so so many cool looking ones, especially in the later gens, hence probably pushing to coolest on average for pokemon types

Ice would be a fantastic type to give your Top 3 on. We know, historically, Ice Type SUCKS. But we also know that Ice Types have some unique techs, attacks and Pokemon in it. Would love to see your opinion on the best and not so best ones.

Hey wolfey, I really enjoy watching Pokemon content on the weekends and I just wanted to say good job on being so consistent with putting out videos recently. I know that must be challenging.

I feel like Shedinja would be good on a team to just sit on the 5th and 6th slots and hardly ever get used just to force people to play around it

The Tapu lele-Accelgor strategy and the Shuckle-Mimikyu strategy sound super fun! Bug type made for a really interesting video.

the video editing was phenomenal, i really liked it i thought scisor or shuckle would have beoon on spot 1 but volcarona took the cake i love volcarona very muvh especially the shiny version and i used it quite a bit back in gen 6 with giga drain, people seem to ignore and sleep on this move you can probably continue this series with all types and i guess the best start would be normal type

Volcarona is tied for my favorite Pokemon of all time with Slither Wing and the Bulbasaur line so it warms my heart that it is such a beast.

I am stupidly happy to see Butterfree mentioned anywhere. My #1 favorite mon was mentioned, and it just makes me really happy. I went in sure it'd be nowhere, and yet!

I have to say i really enjoy these edits that are "imperfect" where Wolfe is definitely scripted but not all the uhhs are edited out and he just sounds more casual? Feels like old Wolfe with a little bit of polish

My absolute favourite of all the teams I used during gen 8 was built around hail with Arctozolt and Pheromosa with Blizzard. It held Specs but ran Close Combat for fighting STAB since it doesn't care about a defensively detrimental nature. I made it for an unofficial 6v6 doubles teambuilding contest, but it was fun and good enough to win a couple tournament rounds, so I also tweaked it for the ingame ladder. Bug is my favourite type so I love it whenever they get their time to shine. AV Slither Wing is my gen 9 secret weapon!

I used Durant with the Ability swap attack and truant. This could pair with Diglett who has arena trap and can setup in the opponents truant turn and protect in between. Diglett is able to sweep afterwards...

Vivillon used to have access to a signature move called 'powder'. It was a status move that would trigger if the opponent used a fire-type move. Unfortunately, access to this move was taken from it, and it hasn't appeared on any other Pokémon. As a concept, it's pretty cool and I've never really seen it utilized. I'm sure it could've been interesting. Essentially, if the target afflicted with 'powder' used a fire-type move, instead of dealing damage it would blow up in the user's face, dealing damage. I can understand why they got rid of it, it was such a niche move and a signature for a completely underused mon, but still. Give my man Vivillon a W.

I like these videos it’s like giving vgc history on the side which I find interesting and the various ways people managed to come up with different strategies for a pokemon (the incredibly niche ones are my favorite to hear about)

Dude I haven’t watched your content in awhile, but holy crap your editing has gotten absolutely insane. I wasn’t even that interested in this topic, just on while doing other things, but I watched the whole thing from how good the editing and commentary was

I think Emergency Exit should be tweaked to allow Golisopod to attack the attacker with whatever move was selected as it switches. It allows both sides to play smartly around it- if the golisopod is at ~60% HP, the opponent can attack into golisopod with a pokemon that resists or otherwise eats the hit from golisopod. The user of golisopod can set up good switch ins with pivot mons like amoongus or incineroar while positioning golisopod in a way that makes the exit part of emergency exit still worthwhile, and golisopod isn't shafted by an ability that hurts more than it helps because it still gets to attack even if it's being forced out at an inopportune time.

Bug Types are by FAR my favorites, I really hope for Legends Z-A to give them some more love

Awesome video, Wolfey! I would love to see what you'd say is the best Steel type Pokemon. I do suspect it could be Zacian if it were given more time to thrive but that is also why I think it's an interesting type to explore for this type of video. With options like Aegislash, Metagross, and Heatran also in this category, I am genuinely curious to see what has seen the most results.

Conversational Wolfe videos are so good, but these last two typing videos have been super complemented by their incredible editing. Just an awesome one-two punch between Wolfe and the editor.

Shedinja should be 3rd because i made a 3 turn setup that makes it literally immortal enless you can change abilities. On the first turn, you send out plusle and graveler. Have graveler have sturdy, protect, and explode, and have plusle have role play, entrainment, and protect. Have plusle role-play graveler and have graveler use an attacking move of your choosing. On the second turn, protect plusle and explode graveler to send in shedinja. On the third turn, do whatever you want with shedinja, and use entrainment on shedinja. You now have a shedinja with sturdy, meaning it’s nearly impossible to kill. You’re welcome for my advice.

It's funny how dominant bug/steel is as a typing is every form of play, having so many resistances and only 1 weakness is just so strong, especially after the addition of fairy type, cool video!

Ribombee always had a special place in my heart since SM days. Neat typing, solid speed, decent special attack, and a solid move in Pollen Puff made for a fun pokemon to use. Only shame is the very frail defensive stats and the lack of move pool, but I still liked using it whenever I got the chance

One of my favorite observations I've seen about pokemon is that "Bug is not a good type definitely or offensively, but you sure don't want to have a 4x weakness to it". After all basically every team runs u-turn. It's one of those types that reminds you pokemon isn't rock paper scissors, it's a complex web of metagame factors.

I don't disagree at all, but as a bug type fan, I'm legally obligated to be upset by the total absences of Heracross, Scolipede, Galvantula, Crustle, Scyther, Mega Beedrill, Mega Pinsir, Yanmega, Armando, Vespiquen, Vikavolt, Ribombee, Orbeetle, Centiskorch, Lokix, and ESPECIALLY GENESECT!! Forgot about my fav Volcarona strat: Volcarona + Oricorio fire. You can Sub Oricorio to protect it, and Volcarona can use Quiver Dance or Firey Dance to set up or attack. Due to Oricorio’s Dancer ability, it will copy Volcarona’s move on top of its own move. So you can get three moves in a turn and either hyper-offensive sweep, or set up protected dual Quiver dances

It would be kinda cool to see fairy or dragon next. Going from one of the weakest types to one of the strongest could be a cool mixup, especially since those types have A LOT of good pokemon. So it would be interesting to see which is the definite number 1 amongst the countless contenders.

As a kid, I used to believe that Volcarona was a legendary Pokemon in Black and White due to the way you obtained it in the sand ruins.

Yessssss this was my most requested type video! Scizor has been my fav Pokémon ever so this placement was justice. Oddly enough, I don’t like bugs in real life but for some reason I absolutely LOVE bug types on Pokémon. Scizor, Masquerain, Ribombee, Pheremosa, Leavanny, Genesect, Lokix, Buzzwole to name a few. :)

So, back in early gen IV, I actually used power trick Shuckle at a local tournament, with its main partners being life orb alakazam as the setter and clefable when the ala went down. It worked decently well, but it was hard to win sets with it, once people knew what I was doing.
