@Reuben Morris you never heard of it? It's one of the things I remember from college . Our history and involvement in Central Latin American and South American countries are notoriously filled with violence to the people who selected their own government . If there is anything of value that serves American corporate interests , they will not hesitate to overthrow their legitimately elected government so they can profit from their imperialist capitalism.

The USA DEBT Ceiling will in all probability be raised, heading towards $35TRILLION. This is bad, but it is especially bad if interest rates rise to 5%...What used to be the norm. Imagine at 5% p.a....This would equate to $2Trillion every year! So the debt ceiling would have to be raised by at least $2TRILLION every year just to maintain the status quo.....It is obvious to anyone that the USA cannot reduce it's Debt. Then there is the PRIVATE DEBT, which is ten times worse. No much wonder that banks and companies are going bust. This is not like the Great Depression which happened almost overnight, This is much much worse and is like trying to hold back the tide....Sooner or later the tide overwhelmes everybody....

German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, in an interview with DPA, called on the EU to impose sanctions against the Rosatom concern so that Russia could not use nuclear energy in the energy sector as an instrument of political pressure. I note that for Germany, which has closed all its nuclear power plants, sanctions against Rosatom will not be hot or cold. However, a ban on the import of Russian nuclear fuel could hit hard on the French industry, which receives electricity generated by nuclear power plants. German authorities want to increase production costs for French industry in order to weaken their main competitor in Europe

Dear Professor Wolf, as a student in public policy, I believe that public spending runs counter to inflation, I am wondering what corporate welfare relating to government subsidies for big business days about the private sector? While low interest rates seemed to prompt up big businesses, does that suggest that American corporations are weaker, and less competitive? Asking for a friend.

Re the Chips financial support program. The USA cannot build advanced Semiconductors in the USA, since the neither the fabrication plants nor the skills exist in the USA (or Japan or the EU). Approximately 92% of advanced Semiconductors are built in Taiwan and the balance in South Korea. In the event of an attack by China on Taiwan, leading to the destruction of those factories and their associated Supply Chains, the USA and the West will be set back for decades. This risk is imo. the main motivation for the USA to support Taiwan, which increases risk of a war with China.

You talk as though this is a unique Democratic problem and seem to be be suggesting that they are the only ones who do this. They aren't and they don't. Both political parties do the same thing because both political parties are bribed - sorry donated to - in exactly the same way and so both do the bidding of their benefactors. If they don't, the money supply in the form of the donations will dry up. There is little real difference between the parties when it comes to doing as they are told.

Still no clue what capitalism is...what money is...what inflation is... or that none of what exists has any legitimate constitutional authority to exist? below is the promotional material for Michael Hudson’s newest book, The Collapse of Antiquity. Enjoy! * * * The Collapse of Antiquity, the sequel to Michael’s “…and forgive them their debts,” is the second and latest book in his trilogy on the history of debt. It describes how the dynamics of interest-bearing debt led to the rise of rentier oligarchies in classical Greece and Rome, causing economic polarization, widespread austerity, revolts, wars and ultimately the collapse of Rome into serfdom and feudalism. That collapse bequeathed to subsequent Western civilization a pro-creditor legal philosophy that has led to today’s creditor oligarchies. In telling this story, The Collapse of Antiquity reveals the eery parallels between the collapsing Roman world and today’s debt-burdened Western economies. Endorsements “In this monumental work, Michael Hudson overturns what most of us were taught about Athens and Sparta, Greece and Rome, Caesar and Cicero, indeed about kings and republics. He exposes the roots of modern debt peonage and crises in the greed and violence of antiquity’s oligarch-creditors, embedded in their laws, which in the end destroyed the civilizations of classical antiquity.” - James K. Galbraith, author of Welcome to the Poisoned Chalice: The Destruction of Greece and the Future of Europe. “In this fascinating book, Hudson explores the rise of the predatory rentier oligarchies of classical Greece and Rome. He makes a fascinating and persuasive case that the trap of debt led to the destruction of the peasantry, the states and ultimately even these civilizations.” - Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator, Financial Times. “Michael Hudson is an old school, 19th-century classical economist who puts fact before theory. To read his new book, The Collapse of Antiquity, is to learn why and how it has come to pass that we live in a world in which the money owns the people, not the people who own the money. The clarity of Hudson’s thought is like water in a desert, his history lesson therefore a sad story that is a joy to read.” - Lewis Lapham, editor of Lapham’s Quarterly. Scope The Collapse of Antiquity is vast in its sweep, covering: the transmission of interest-bearing debt from the Ancient Near East to the Mediterranean world, but without the “safety valve” of periodic royal Clean Slate debt cancellations to restore economic balance and prevent the emergence of creditor oligarchies; the rise of creditor and landholding oligarchies in classical Greece and Rome; classical antiquity’s debt crises and revolts, and the suppression, assassination and ultimately failure of reformers; the role played by greed, money-lust (wealth-addiction) and hubris, as analysed by Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and other ancient writers; Rome’s “End Time” collapse into serfdom and pro-creditor oligarchic legacy that continues to shape the West; the transformation of Christianity as it became Rome’s state religion, supporting the oligarchy, dropping the revolutionary early Christian calls for debt cancellation and changing the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer and “sin,” from a focus on the economic sphere to the personal sphere of individual egotism; how pro-creditor ideology distorts recent economic interpretations of antiquity, showing increasing sympathy with Rome’s oligarchic policies. From Backcover Rome’s collapse was the forerunner of the debt crises, economic polarization and austerity caused by subsequent Western oligarchies. The West’s pro-creditor laws and ideology inherited from Rome make repeated debt crises transferring control of property and government to financial oligarchies inevitable. Classical antiquity’s great transition to the modern world lay in replacing kingship not with democracies but with oligarchies having a pro-creditor legal philosophy. That philosophy permits creditors to draw wealth, and thereby political power, into their own hands, without regard for restoring economic balance and long-term viability as occurred in the Ancient Near East through Clean Slates. Rome’s legacy to subsequent Western civilization is thus the structure of creditor oligarchies, not democracy in the sense of social structures and policies that promote widespread prosperity. Print Friendly, PDF & Email This entry was posted in Guest Post, The dismal science on March 25, 2023 by Yves Smith. P.S. There are some who believe Hudson is a "marxist economist"...but there is a significant distinction between understanding "economics" and "history" to include "marx", and being a marxist. I realize the followers of Wolff don't bother with any "distinctions" of any kind for any reason...and the "victim" shit is getting old...but that's what happens when you trade "essential liberty" for a little temporary and delusional security. ( especially when you have no clue how it happened and the consequences of it. ) WARNING!!!!!! we shall now hear from the "willfully ignorant, functional illiterates" so described, who will insist on confirming the description, while having no relevant response or argument to what has been written.
