What power limit you would recommend for an i7-4800MQ? Currently I have the stock limits, turbo boost power max 37W and turbo boost short power max 47W.

Does your power adapter can actually deliver that much power?

I would be careful with the power limit. Even if you will able to solve the thermal issue probably you would need to do something with the motherboard to prevent its power limit. Especially on laptops, the factory is more likely under design the PCB rather than over. So if the MOSFETs did not blow up :) may you will need to add some extra capacitors onto the VCORE and the GPU power rails, and bigger power brick would not hurt either.

I will say, it isn't hard to apply if you're careful. If you SLOWLY squeeze the syringe and be ready to pull back the second it comes out, then you're good. I've never had issues applying directly to the die, and I equate that to not being ham fisted with it.

Also, you can probably get the paste off with isopropanol and a toothbrush. If that doesn't work, you could also get it fixed by professionals like Louis Rossmann, who has a channel where he posts videos of the repairs.

Well maybe its because to the height difference that it is causing problems . this CPU is soldered to a pcb making it much thicker then a normal CPU , this heatsink also needs to make contact to the chipset... maby a pad on the chipset would make it thicker and even things out. letting the heatsink make beter contact to the die but i do not expect it to be a lot better in temperatures then good thermal paste because you are already making contact with the bare die.

Liquid metal is not a good choice to use on anything that will be moving either. It's also not good to use long term it's far too reactive.

Hi. The newest Thinkpads that are supported by libreboot were produced in 2008. So no, T440p is probably not a good choice for libreboot

Depends on what you're looking for. X200 is the most popular choice because of the portability. AFAIK there are also Libreboot desktops but I haven't researched that so can't suggest anything

@@pandapo2698 Just look up videos comparing 1x8gb vs 2x4gb and yes there is an improvement in performance with dual stick ram.

There are some other listings on Taobao, but I don't know if they're trustworthy. I bought the CPU from the listing I've linked in the description and I won't recommend or endorse any other ones.

Wolfgang's Channel lol. I didn't watch the whole video before writing the comment. I saw this tip on Tek syndicate (pretty cool video about t440p). I have the same laptop because of you :) Installed first macOS Mojave until the audiojack stopped working without reason. Other than that it was pretty stable. Even the display port was working. I'm on Manjaro XFCE now :)

BIOS update? I've no idea what's wrong here, it's hard to diagnose a laptop when I don't have it on my hands

Not much to compare, those laptops both have their own niche. X220 is a fairly compact laptop, sturdy and cheap, nice keyboard, but not very powerful, plus it only takes HD screens (unless you install Nitrocaster‘s mod). T440p is bigger, thicker and heavier, has some extra oomph (takes a quad core i7), bunch of storage options (SATA, DVD drive plus M.2). Both cost about the same but T440p is more upgradable. So if you want an old Thinkpad that’s still fairly powerful go for T440p. Do note though that’s it’s REALLY thick and heavy for a 14“. You don’t really see it until you’ve held it.

My 4702mq would only allow -70mV, so that's what I did. Same with 4980hq

Probably nowhere. They seem to be out of stock everywhere. You won’t want it anyway apart from “just for lulz”, the cooling system in T440p can’t handle it. Stick to 37W CPUs
