The vastly underrated brother Charlie Teagarden on trumpet...he was a virtuoso by any measure!

Thank you for posting these! I love Jack T. and I have a bunch of records that I love listening to, but the sound quality is not as good as this! Such an excellent combo here too! As good as as The Clambake Seven in my opinion (and that's saying a lot!). This has made my day!

Amazing. They are all flying without a safety net. Thanks for posting! The Big T was unique. It sounded like he was playing a valve instrument instead of a slide trombone. Similarly, Louis Armstrong does a three-octave slide on a valve instrument on "I Gotta Right to Sing The Blues" (1933 audio only, but check it out!). I wish we had footage of both from the 20's and 30's! Ray Baduc (drums) was also a Bobcat - check him out on "Big Noise From Winnetka" from the movie "Reveille With Beverly". On that clip, the Wilde Twins are beautiful, but couldn't fingerpop on the beat worth a darn. What a hoot!

What a great - and probably rare - clip. Jack was one of the masters of the trombone.

Sorry folks! Piano by Don Ewell, of course. Charlie T, trumpet; Pud Brown, tenor; Don Bonnee, clarinet; Nappy La Mare, guitar; Ray Leatherwood, bass; Ray Bauduc, drums, and Heinie Beau, alto (where shown). Thats it!

BixBix81: A few misspellings of names, but correct lineup. On LOVER, Jack uses the slide only, and blows into the pint glass. Folks: Go out and get this video!

Indeed, 1945 is way off target for this version of 'Wolverine Blues'. Tom Lord has Snader Telescription 12610 , et al, recorded in Los Angeles on 22 Feb 1952. Discogs has it issued on Camay CA 3009 in 1963 as 'Jack Teagarden's Unforgettables'.

These Snader telescriptions (10 in all) were recorded/filmed in 1951, NOT 1945 as stated above,The wonderful piano is by Jess Stacy.

The pianist is Marvin Ash, not Don Ewell. There is a compilation of these Snader Telescriptions available with a personnel listing that incorrectly names Don Ewell as the pianist. It's an understandable error as there is a slight resemblance to Ash, but Don Ewell didn't start working with Teagarden until the mid 1950's or so.

Ewell had much less hair at the time. And he didn't play Ash's ragtime-influenced style. Ewell was a near-perfect copy of Jelly Roll Morton. You can't confound them.

How about giving a little credit to the man who wrote this composition, Jelly Roll Morton, without who we wouldn't have this tune, or the majority of the elements of this style of music for that matter, which has forever been repeatedly rehashed by others who quite often forget who they owe a little gratitude and respect, for giving us these wonderful sounds.

Why would you say that? I looked at the comments and no one is saying anything negative about Morton in anyway.

Pud Brown was the tenor sax/clarinet. Definitely not Stan Goetz who had played with Jack's band elsewhere.
