I've been on the receiving end of this level of toxicity, my parents are Ghanaian, I'm white....and you can probably guess, I'm adopted and they took me on when I was 9 days old. My parents are the best people I've ever known, and I am forever grateful to call them my mum and dad. They taught me, clothed me, loved me, fed me, educated me about their culture, taught me manners and good ethics, gave me an insight into their world. They treated me not even an iota different to their biological children. The community shunned me, pushed me out, refused to accept me because I am 'Not one of them'. They shunned my parents too. I'm not welcome in their church, I'm not welcome at the community gatherings. I won't call it racism, I won't call it prejudice, I'll call it what it is, straight up disrespect and toxicity to a man and a woman who took in a sickly baby abandoned by his drug addict mother and raised me for 35 years now.
