I find it funny how they talk about the passengers getting overcharged but they do not talk about the drivers get UNDER PAID.

She was shown price before accepting the ride. She saw the price and accepted the ride. So what’s the problem?

I got charged 600 dollars for a 1.8 mile ambulance ride to a hospital. My blood pressure was too high, and I didn't even want the ambulance ride, it was forced on me. I layed in a bed at the hospital to which they told me my blood pressure was low enough I could leave at 3 AM. I had a doctors appointment at 7:00 A.M. and she took my blood pressure. It was 180 over 120. Clearly I am pissed at my bills when they EPICALLY fuck me. 600 dollars... get fucking real... this doesn't even include the ridiculous hospital bill for me to lay there in a bed and do a stress test which includes me walking around with a heart monitor around the hospital for 3 minutes. I could have done that at home with my fitbit.

So the $362 girl started a go-fund me so other people can pay for her problem?

Uber helps drunk people get rides from sober people but at the same time it can scam these drunk people because they are too drunk to read the "Surge Pricing" alert properly and thus these type of incidents happen.

I wonder how long the ride was and what form of Uber she used (UberX, UberBlack, UberSUV). Show us the receipt instead of just saying $92 for 2.7miles. Let's say, she used UberSUV and was stuck in traffic for 24 mins (which is double the time during traffic). That's $15 base + $0.90/min X 24 mins + $3.75/mile X 3 miles = $47.85 If there was surge pricing (which I tend to believe it did show up and she wasn't paying attention), it's not so off.

She could have clicked the "estimate button" to check how much it would cost at the time. But of course, it was Friday and she was too fucking drunk to do that.

Hmmmm.....sorry but I don't buy into her story. She obviously blindly requested the ride while a large surge in pricing was occurring. Maybe next time she'll heed the warning that was right in front of her face. I've paid as much a 4X in a surge pricing zone but it was still much faster than a cab as there was a long wait for cabs, and it was only marginally more expensive. Quite frankly I love using Uber. It's safer for a single female than using a cab. My two cents worth.

as someone who has worked in that part of town for many years, I have seen how that specific 7 minute route can turn into 30+ minutes during the worst traffic hours or an accident.

this is girl does not make any sense before accepting the trip you can view the current surge price and trip estimate if you see 7.50 per miles plus 2 usd per minute just call a cab and thats it.. people need to start to take responsabilities and stop blaming other .

This happened to me before. The ride would've cost about 10 dollars and that's the price I accepted in that moment. At the end of my ride, it was 35 bucks (not as high as 92), because of surge pricing. Apparently the price changed as soon as I clicked on accept. I disputed it, used the credit they gave back and deleted the app after.

I’ve used Uber for about a year now... and every single time it’s always given me a price BEFORE confirming the ride request. Did this not used to happen in 2014? If not, WHY would you authorize your credit card for a ride with a mystery fee? In that case I’d rather pay more for a taxi and know what my budget is rather than order an Uber and HOPE it will be less.

There's more to it that what's in the news report. They do clearly tell you the price before the trip. They also have a sliding scale as to what kind of ride (vehicle) you want to use in the service, which of course drives up the price. I would have demanded to see the app on her phone for confirmation of what kind of vehicle she picked.

That's called uber surcharge! Its happens few occasion in the year like new years eve, or whenever there is a high demand of uber but less drivers on the road ( snow day)! Its usually triple the normal fair or even some times 4x the fair. Not always. Uber is the best option to people who can afford it and need a more clean car!

I had a customer who got x4.8 surge. Went from ft bliss to Las cruces, new mexico. Was drunk as shit being as it was st Patrick's day last year. Paid a little over 300 and I made 226 for 60 miles and an hour of driving. Know what he did the next day? Left me a compliment and a badge for going above and beyond. I've given people shorter rides than this where and have gotten like 60 bucks. Surge happens a lot and it's legit, not a scam. High demand? High prices. There's not as many drivers as you think, with dozens of people ordering rides at the same time, it has to reach out to drivers who are sometimes 20+ min. Away. The only beef I have with uber is they screwed me out of 1000 dollar tip, which is apparently impossible to get according to their bullshit tip policy. This chick has no right to complain
