Why was the police officer who claimed to see her enter the house alone earlier not considered a suspect? She left in a great hurry with someone, without a struggle and probably in a panic since everything was left behind and the door wide open. Who else could cause someone to behave that way other than a trusted authority figure with an "emergency"?

A thing to consider is that she left her cigarettes behind, yet her overcoat was gone. That might indicate that someone called her attention to something outside but she hadn't planned to go anywhere. Smokers always know where their pack is. Someone called her outside to see something, such as a car or something in yard or house. That would indicate someone known to her and at that time of night I am betting on the neighbor.

No concern even when days go by & still no word from her?! You didn't bother to call her & leave a msg...say you came by (thot they had a date) but she was M.I.A & front door was wide open so, wanted to make sure she was okay? Heck, if still no word w/in 24 hrs: go back & if car still there & door open - call for a wellness ck! At least leave a note on the door or her car. Nope. He did nothing/said nothing - until cops contacted him (after finding out about him by going thru her phone records.) Red flags galore IMO!!

The guy Bernard could've easily gotten Nancy out of her house without a struggle. Nancy didn't know him well, but she did know him. So her opening her door to speak with Bernard is plausible. If he were to pull a weapon, such as a knife or a gun, he could've easily talked her out of her house. "Nancy, you see I have a gun. I don't want to shoot you, but I will if you force me to. I need you to come with me. if you do so without causing issues, I promise I will not hurt you. If you cause trouble, I will put a bullet in your head right now. You decide." So getting her out of her house without showing signs of a struggle would be relatively easy. I have to say, this woman has some seriously bad luck with the people she interacts with. Her food delivery guy is a murderer. Her neighbor is apparently a psycho who admitted to being a murderer, and then took it all back. And her co-worker is possibly a killer, or a liar or an idiot, who also can't get it up.

I find it odd she left without her cigs. unless she was a very light smoker this is odd, especially as she was drinking wine. I really wanna know if that pack was open. (The unfortunate nature of that addiction is that your cigs are as important as your coat, maybe even more so & def more important than your purse.) if she was sitting on her porch smoking (in her coat) and hadn’t properly closed the door, the neighbor seems pretty reasonable- maybe he had been watching her and knew that she’d be alone and tipsy or maybe she was voluntarily into a quickie, but she didn’t think she was going to be gone long, if the cigs were left behind.

I agree that it was more than likely a stranger, some guy she met at a bar. I don't think it was Jim. I think he went to her home looking for her because they were supposed to get together that weekend. I think he was just curious as to why he couldn't reach her. Eric sounds like a complete nut so it could have been him. If he didn't do it he's a mental case for confessing. Bernard the meat seller could have been the killer too, after all, he killed once before so why not again? Plus she had his brand of meat in her freezer, so I'm going to say it's a toss-up between him and Eric. It's possible that she didn't leave voluntarily because her cigarettes were on the porch? She could have been sitting outside smoking when a guy approached her with a gun and told her to get in his car. A scenario like that wouldn't look like a struggle. I don't think she would have left her bag and ID inside with the door hanging open if she left voluntarily. To me that screams abduction.

@dissidentfairy4264

@@nickyblue4866 The reason I feel it was a forced abduction is because what woman would leave without her bag, her ID and make-up, etc.? On top of that leave the door hanging open to allow an unwanted intruder inside who could be hiding and lying in wait for her to return? Or a thief to rob her while she was away? I don't think so. She couldn't have been that much in a hurry to have sex with someone. I think some unknown guy frightened her with a gun and she complied. Which is why there wasn't a scuffle. It may have been an unknown stalker who had observed her in a bar hanging out with different men, followed her home, knew where she lived, and plotted his move after deciding she was an easy target.

There was a case similar to this where a woman with 2 or 3 daughters was murdered and there were 3 viable suspects (a current boyfriend, a recent ex-BF and an ex-husband) and it ended up being the ex-husband (despite the fact that they had been divorced for at least 10 years, if I recall correctly).

I was married to a man that owned a frozen meat sales company, I can tell you they are all trouble. He was diagnosed NPD w/sociopathic characteristics and was abusive, violent, went to jail and was convicted. Pretty much anyone that worked for him was a convicted felon, a few of them went to jail over the years for domestic violence. Fun fact, his dad was one of the prime suspects in a still unsolved murder, if you want to look at it. Jill Bounds in Dallas. There's a D magazine article with all the info. Similar story as she was seeing multiple people, and my ex father in law was married at the time of their affair. She was found bludgeoned to death in her own home, no forced entry, all doors locked. Happened late 80s or early 90s. Apparently it may run in the family

Stereotype of butchers is that they’re generally nice people. Perhaps this doesn’t extend to sellers of frozen meat, but only to people who actually cut up food animals. The food writer M. F. K. Fisher supported this stereotype by writing favorably about butchers in one of her books, wondering why they tended to be uncommonly kind or something to that effect.

Really interesting case! To me it seems like she went outside expecting to come back shortly after and thats why the door was left ajar and her coat was gone. I don't know if a kidnapper would go into her home and tell her to put a coat on before leaving. Really scary though, especially because I sometimes run outside late at night exactly the same way (put on a coat and leave my door ajar) whenever I hear a strange sound. I don't know how people are able to move on when someone they love goes missing, not judging them negatively at all, it just must be so difficult and stressful, I don't think I'd ever be at peace if my mom, sister or friend went missing like that. I can't even imagine going through such torture.

@@tanyaedwards4574 Probably more than we even know, especially with the growing homeless population. I believe we have around 80 missing and or murdered cold cases in our county, men and women. We have a case from 2007 of a mother whose body was found, the case seems to be totally cold. Supposedly Israel Keyes was running around our area at that time. Although we are the Capital of Washington it's relatively small, much of the county is rural and densely forested making it perfect for dumping bodies apparently. We have a new Sheriff who has big plans for these cold cases, we'll see 🤷🏼.

Funny, my #1 suspect never came up again, and he was the last person to see her alive. Tell me, if it were an ex or a co-worker, that happened to be sitting in a car across the street, instead of a cop, do you think he might be a suspect? Where was she from 6:45 until the cop saw her after 9? Wherever that was, no one can be found to witness that? An empty wine glass, and a started but not finished glass of wine, 2+ hrs missing, then thanks to a perfectly positioned cop, her story begins after 9..... Does he have any tickets issued between 6:45 and the time he says he saw her? .... Opportunity is half the reason for a crime to take place.* - She is getting a reputation for being available, he sees her at the store, on the road, he follows her, He knocks on the door to gain entry, he's a cop so she let's him in, he propositions her, she rejects him, dirty deeds and their done dirt cheap, he carries her body out to his cruiser so can't close the door, puts her in the trunk and sets up like he's working for GPS, gets rid of the body at the end of his shift; and he doesn't go back for the door. Or he hides the body outside and goes back after shift. Peace *not really half, I'm sure, lol, I'm just kind of making up my own idiom Edit - my point with the wine glasses was, that was her routine, which she was half way through that night, when there was a knock on the door. That would have been 2+ hours before the cop says she got home. Ya, she could start the glass of wine then, but now it's getting pretty late, so, if she didn't finish the glass of wine, that knock came pretty soon after she got home, so why wouldn't the cop see that too? How many glasses had been poured from the bottles she just bought? Was it her first, second?

yeah that struck me as odd too! In fact before i had even considered any specific suspect i thought to myself "hmm this sounds like one of those very peculiar crime mysteries that remain unsolved for years and years until finally one day some new piece of evidence emerges that no one saw coming, and in the end we all find out it wasn't the ex bf or the co-worker as suspected, it was a cop or an ex cop or some politician / authority figure in a position to cover up a crime like this!

Never underestimate the impact of booze/drugs on people. She clearly started leading a reckless life hooking up with lots of guys, and looks like the father spent more days with the kids than the mother. In any normal situation no woman would leave without their purse, their car, cell phone, locking their door, etc. So either someone did say they needed her help with an emergency or similar need that caused her to leave at around midnight in a rush. I hate missing persons cases with no closure. Her poor kids stuck wondering what the heck happened, and their lives forever turned upside down. Any person with kids needs to grow up a bit and lead a more responsible life for the children's sake at least. Another sad story. I feel like there are more and more of these disappearances. Also especially if you have kids, don't divorce quickly and for petty reasons. Marriage is a huge stabilizing factor, which is why your insurance goes down if you say you are married.

The sex and spending sounds like maybe Nancy had some undiagnosed bi-polar struggles. She has the facial features of someone with fetal alcohol so despite being very smart maybe that played a roll in her behaviour. Sounds like she was a good mom who made sure she kept her "wild life" separate from them and took good care of them. It's sad they lost her and with no answers. It also sounds like their dad was a good stable person so I hope they had a good upbringing and supportive home with him.

The ex-husband, Bill could have also left his girls asleep as well. Jealous of her ongoing sexcopades, he could have showed up and told her one or both the girls were hurt in some way, or missing. This would have sent any caring mother into a panic. She would have grabbed her coat and left the house in that same panic not taking the time to make sure the door had closed all the way. The "Let's get going" that was heard by the neighbor would fit with Nancy's concerne for her daughters.

Maybe it was too cold and she got in the car to talk to the person (planning to go back into the house) and the person took off. That would explain what looked like a hasty departure and why there was no evidence in the house. The neighbor thought it was Nancy who said “let’s go”, but was that ever established?
