Exactly. Seems odd he would trust what the police say about the traceability of the floppy disk and not verify it himself. But I think he was not really that smart, he was just lucky not to have gotten caught in all those years because in reality he was quite sloppy and left lots of evidence which was eventually used to capture him. The floppy disk just made him a suspect. What nailed him was evidence he left at the crime scene. But because he was a husband, a dad, a religious "pillar of his community," he was never even on their radar so he could be sloppy and leave evidence and still not be caught.

What's VERY important here is that we must NOT blame members of a serial killer's family! Why? Because serial killers specialize in compartmentalizing! They're vicious predators while under the cover of darkness, but at home, they're just dad, husband, brother, and son! So NO ONE would have any idea until they're finally caught, and that could take years! So people, PLEASE!!! this is really sad... apparently she suffered from night terrors and terrible nightmares as a kid growing up, and continued throughout her adult life. In his book “Inside the mind of BTK” John Douglas says that while people think it could have been because of the negative psychic energy of Rader, it was actually because she and Rader would often consume horror and violent written or video material growing up... she might have even dug through Rader’s stuff as a kid. I recently read the book i’m 27 year old male and the stuff Rader did scared the living crap outta me... i wish i hadnt read it. Its scary to think people you love and hold dear to heart could be the helpless victims of such a disgusting shitstain of a human being.

B.T.K. asked the police if they could trace a floppy disk. The police told him, 'No. You can buy floppy disks anywhere, Staples, Office Depot, any stationery/office supply store. Too hard to trace anybody, any business who buys them.' Rader then made a floppy disk but it has metadata, coded info on which computer, which user, even which file on the computer made the floppy. That's how he was caught. And he got mad at the deception. He liked confounding the police. Taunting, boasting, threatening more killings. I'm too smart for you guys. Not smart enough to do a web search about metadata.

I think the only way his daughter can deal with this is forgiveness.
