Would also be nice if stupid humans just left these animals in their natural habitats where they belong and we wouldn't have these problems. 😠 Disgusting. Humans are so selfish. If it's not a dog, cat or fish it shouldn't be living in our homes to begin with. 🤷🏾♀️ Annoys the crap out of me.

Yes, the salinity depends probably on age and life stage... As young they live in sea, later on wander up into rivers and lakes... So they may be found in lakes too. but Lazarus was obviously in a rather high salinity life stage...

Man, pet shops are hard on dangerous animals. It’s quite cruel that they hold such animals in such a confined location their WHOLE LIVES on the hope someone would buy them which is rarely the case.

My mum once bought a rabbit that was pregnent and the shop owner told her it was not pregnant casue she saw it was pulling out hair. They said it was normal. a few days later we got 4 rabbit kids from it. So yea some animal shops just love to lie just to get something sold.

salt water tanks... actually, no, fish in general are a very expensive and loaded hobby. just the water quality can make out break your tank. glad to see that lil guy out of there! (and this is coming from a pet store employee)

How is this Eel a dangerous animal? I’m pretty sure it’s not an electric eel. But you’re right pet shops are not very nice places. We don’t need them apart for maybe cat’s and dogs, to carry foods and medication.

Small saltwater tanks are notoriously difficult to keep at the exact right parameters so she did REALLY well getting it all set up and maintained for this little guy

I think this tank is brackish. Since I think she mixed water from both fresh and saltwater tanks. Dunno if that’s harder than pure saltwater.

Thank God for people like this woman. I would never have even dreamed about getting an eel. I didn't know they were even in pet shops. Apparently the pet shop had no idea how to take care of this little guy. This kind of thing breaks my heart, but at least this one was saved

Sadly, most _would_ think twice, about helping an eel, both because they're a "disposable" small animal, fearsome, and a tad "creepy/scary" in appearance. She's that wonderfully rare 😍 star of a human being, who jumps in immediately upon seeing suffering of any type, endured by anyone! Brava to this brave, lovely, selfless and whipsmart young woman!!!!

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago. There was a storm which washed hundreds of starfish onto the beach. A girl came out and started returning the starfish to the ocean and someone stopped her. “You can’t make a difference. There’s too many of them.” The girl picked up another starfish and put it in the water. “Yes, but I made a difference for that one.”

I do the same thing for chickens. I have several birds who were mislabeled from pet stores and no one seemed to want them. I’ve had chicks literally climbing into my hand practically begging me to give them a home. And I do.

Pet stores are usually not the best place for animals. They are rarely ever kept in proper conditions and their stress levels are pretty high all the time. Thanks for saving the eel. You took the time to do some research on what kind of environment he needed and supported him until he came around. Good on ya! And Lazarus is a good name for him.

this can be changed by introducing a few laws. I dont know where you’re from but Im not from the US - but I did go to several petstores in Florida and LA and I was completely shocked! Fish are kept in the smallest containers.. birds are kept in small rodent cages. Terrible. Where I am from petstores are even only allowed to sell two birds of the same species, so that people don’t keep birds alone.. hope the Us makes some laws for animal protection

it depends on the pet store, if its a large chain store then your correct, however if its an aquatics pet store then in general they take much more care. But sadly due to the nature of being a store small tanks are common place becuase they need to make their money and land isnt cheap to store many animals and remain profitable. As someone who has worked in the industry it is far far more complex then people think it is.

I don't know i she did it on her own. She's a stay at home chick. Where does she get her financial support? Whoever is paying for her is paying for her fish hobby. Father? Boyfriend? Husband? Girlfirend? That's the real hero. We have so much wealth that we can afford to be charitable to critters over humans.

@Jack Sparrow You literally know nothing about her life based on this three minute video. You don’t know what her financial situation is like either. She could have a job, there’s nothing indicating that she doesn’t or is unable too. Its not like taking care of fish and a cat is something that takes 100% of your time and attention. And even if she is getting financial support shes the one who bought the eel and nursed him back to health. I didn’t see anyone else doing that, did you? She did it so she’s the one who deserves recognition for that.

@@aylmerij9760 It's inhumane to cage wildlife to begin with though. If folks stop buying animals that should be in their natural habitat we wouldn't have these "issues" to begin with. If it's not a cat, dog or fish it should not be sold for lifelong entrapment. 🤨 She's not a hero... it's an eel for crying out loud. We got bigger problems to focus our time and energy on. 🤯

That was so nice of you! Most people in the pet shop would have just walked past, but you saw that something was clearly wrong. Unfortunately most people would see a sick or suffering animal and feel their heart strings pull, buy it from the pet store and spend money they wouldn't have if the animals were well cared for, and the pet store will then buy two and put them back in the same condition. Do. Not. Buy. Sick. Animals. You are only encouraging stores to let the animals there live in poor conditions. Buy healthy strong animals to encourage proper breeding, care, and practice from the industry. They are using animal mistreatment to pry your money out of your wallet by your heart strings.

That's what struck me to save a bearded dragon from a pet store. He lost his forearm and about half his tail to a bigger one. I couldn't stand to see him like that and he was so tiny. I said what's going on in here!? Give him to me! And he lived 13 years😢😢😢....I loved that quiet scaley thing from Australia. They have no choice what happens to them in captivity...it hurts to know that they are so far from home and out of their element for our entertainment.

Many years ago, I was in a large aquarium as a tourist, there was a moray eel in a small room without shelter. She looked so confused and sad. Then I thought about her all vacation.. Such a sad situation... It's hard to convey how happy I felt when I saw your video with your pet today, thank you for your kindness!

as a person who works at a pet store, i applaud her for taking that poor guy into her care _and_ doing the proper research! nothing hurts my heart more when you're forced to sell an animal to someone who doesn't want to take your advice. (the amount of people who try to buy those dreaded tiny tales cages and don't believe me when I say a diy bin cage is better make me want to pull my hair out oh my god) thanks for saving the lil guy!

This amazing woman was meant to be in that pet store on that day. Perhaps one day later would have been too late. Most pet stores have employees that are not knowledgeable in the care of the animals they sell. It's a real problem. I've rescued many little critters from unskilled pet store owners. Lazzy is one lucky eel. Well done Heather!

When you feel that bond of need, lean into it. There are too many helpless moments in life to ignore those moments when you can make a difference. Rescuing a baby pigeon at the lowest moment of my life, saved my life. Even if it had died, I remembered something about myself and the world that day, those weeks, and the perspective still brings me strength to this day. Whoever you are, you are needed here and now.

It's true 💯💯 I was battling severe depression, and once I somehow managed to walk outside and saw a dying honeybee, I took it inside the room and cleaned it a bit and gave it a drop of honey, it ate that honey and rested on my palm for a few minutes, then it got up. So I took it outside and sat there for about ten minutes or so, and it flew away! Felt good after a very very long time 😊

She says she doesn't have the space or time. She already has tanks everywhere that the eels tank in on the ground in the middle of rug. Feeding and nurturing all those animals also cost alot of money

Well done! My husband helped rescue a baby kitten, a tiny black one that had managed to crawl into a busy intersection in the days following hurricane Ian. He stopped the car and jumped out and people were angry and honking. Another woman was there after he was and they agreed in a nearby parking lot for her take the baby because she has a relative knowledgeable about fostering baby kitties. People really do care about the smallest and most helpless among us. That eel would’ve been dead in a very short amount of time if this lovely lady hadn’t cared enough to rescue it.❤

You are the girl of my dreams!super kind and caring and love fish. I only have seven tanks now but when I had my aquarium service company I ran 13 at home and serviced about 70 for 24 years!

Wow! You sure saved his butt! I was so excited when he started swimming upright. Not beating able to breathe right is so scary. His head popping out of the mushroom house is too cute. And seeing him scarf down that squid did my heart good. 🥰🥰🥰. You’re a good person to rescue him. 😃

You have a very good head on your shoulders, and I'm impressed that you were able to go from freshwater to brackish or salt water in a day. Nice job! I'll bet anyone at the pet store who had even passing knowledge of saltwater management thought your chance of success was near zero. Being able to Google something and actually making it work are two different things. Edit: Few things are harder than to manage a small saltwater tank. Generally the larger the better. Smallest I've ever successfully managed was a 20 gallon and that was too much work. ;)

What a special person she is. How many people walked by before her? But she just couldn't leave him to suffer - she had to try to help even though she didn't know how to do it when she rescued him...

A nice sentiment, but you can’t feed strangers with empty cupboards. I wouldn’t have been able to take care of it, even if I really wanted to. Don’t have the resources. And I’m a diehard animal lover.

Eels should never be sold at pet shops :( They are way different from our DOMESTIC animals usually at these horrible pet shops

Yoo how can a pet store be so wrong in creating the eel's environment? 🥺 Aren't there regulations and monitoring for these stores? Poor eel, thank god he's okay now 🙏🏻.
