I'm a nurse. We were taught back in college that when talking in front of the patient to always assume the patient can hear you, whether you're in a coma, knocked out with anesthesia or even deaf. The fact that these licensed surgeons and nurses can't even follow basic education on patient's right to considerate and respectful care is a big disappointment.

I am a retired ICU nurse that has treated many patients that were in comas and I was always taught that they might be able to hear what I was saying. Indeed that was true because I had a patient tell me that I helped them live through the night because of how kind I talked to them and they heard me pray for them. The patient was intubated and put in a drug induced coma but could hear everything going on!

My doctor wouldn't do anything to figure out why I was in pain. For 10 months she kept giving me different pills to mask the pain. I told her I needed actual tests done and she left the room for a minute. I heard her through a vent telling her co-worker I was a whiney bitch. I left and went to the ER. Told them what happened and they did an ultrasound and sent me for a scope and found out I had a bleeding ulcer. They moved me to a different doctor, thank God.

Well it makes sense, even though it's fucked up. Think about it, you don't want to be screwing with people that make your food either, and this dude said it in a joking manner. Though I agree one could argue some of this isn't very "patient friendly".. People talking in a criticizing manner about other people and fooling around in what they think is a operation amongst trusted colleagues probably happens all the time. I've been operated on and I wouldn't be surprised if the people operating on me would've made some embarrassing/what I could interpret as insulting comments whilst I was out. Why the hell would you even look at this in a criticizing manner. The question is.. Did they do the operation successfully/did they behave in a acceptable manner when dealing within the patients direct awareness.. I can't say they have to be serious all the time. I'd rather have a surgeon that fools around and makes stupid comments whilst still doing their job then a surgeon that's stressed out, afraid of saying something that might be taken to damn seriously which in turn could hurt his reputation and possibly his performance. Also people of all races can make dumb ass comments about any other race.. taking such things seriously tends to be the issue. It's about intend, it's not about "just words". Black and white are not offensive in and of itself, making a joke is not offensive. Taking offense and expecting it to be meant as an insult when someone doesn't mean to be hateful at all is in fact offensive. Assuming the worst in a person without understanding intend is an insult. This world is becoming so backwards it's becoming ridiculous :/ Overemotional people brainwashed by MSM to take offense and see reason to be offended in everything they can. Supporting a dividing narrative when in reality what they really desire is joy and peace. People have just been programmed to continuously find reason for unrest which is very depressing to think about

Even if she hadn't spoken those "choice words", Black people still have every reason to fear doctors. She was clear in understanding how healthcare works for our population and for all we know, that hernia surgery was purposely put off because she's black and her health isn't as important. Do some research on Black women's gynecological health and how often they die because of negligence from their doctors.

@@pookie4288 I am the reason victims don't speak up? we're talking about a person that wouldn't even have been conscience. You can't play the victim of something that wasn't meant for your ears. People criticize others about all kinds of things. And it's not always pretty either. Also no one said this is anyone's fault, why do you even describe this as "always their fault" how about, it's nobody's fault and nothing much happened to begin with. I never said race has anything to do with speaking truth. If anything race is better left out, I just mentioned race because for some reason people like to make a point about something being an issue in relation to their race when all to often it shouldn't even be/isn't meant to be about race. If this pandemic has shown us anything it's that the people we trust in can do the most terrible things for personal gain. And yes, of course the only reason the doctors apologized is because they got caught. Like I said, they probably talk like this amongst themselves all the time without thinking much about it.. Maybe it's not meant to be a big deal to begin with :/ The reason they can talk like this behind someone's back instead of saying these things straight to someone's face is in fact because of sympathy and having a base understanding. So I guess you'd say she's a victim of people speaking their minds without the intention of actually hurting someone.... I can imagine worse things in life then this. I just gave myself as an example, this quite possibly happened with me as well when I was out for an operation. I can't be bothered though, unless they'd be like.. physically assaulting me :/

The doctor performed the surgery for nothing...that wasn't enough for her and her husband. In your case yes, that's borderline neglect. But from what I know this woman's surgery was done well, was cared for well. The doctors kept their comments private and didn't say any of this directly to her. She basically eve dropped on their conversation. For sure what they were saying was pretty horrific. But that's why private convos exist.

Don't worry about what men think of your body. Its just in women's DNA to want to look pretty so a man will want to have sex with them. This isn't meant to be offensive. It goes for men too. And they only reason they like big ass is because bigger hips have a better chance of not dying in child birth. It's all very primitive if you ask me.

I know with the job he had and maybe in his personal life he could have lost people the same way. I wasn't in my right mind at the time though and saying those things weren't motivation to get better, they made me feel awful. But at least he was trying to get through to me? One other thing. You should have someone advocating for you when in a healthcare environment. You can legally appoint a family member to advocate for you when you are receiving care. Talk to a lawyer to reset up such a document. For example, recently my husband underwent a test in a faith based hospital. When the tech came in, he did not introduce himself either to myself or my husband. He then removed part of my husband's hospital gown, again without saying what he was doing. I was there. I very politely asked the techs name, which he begrudgingly gave. Then when he touched my husband without asking, removed an area of clothing. I spoke up and said to the tech, you need to ask to touch the person and asked why he was removing my husband's clothing without asking. The tech didn't like that, but had I been the patient, I would told the tech to not touch me without permission ( Yes, they are supposed to ask!) I then reminded the tech that my husband was not a Medical cadaver. They did stop treating husband with disrespect. Also, if you are being examined by a medical provider, you have the right to tell them to wash their hands and put on sterile gloves before examining you. And they may not touch you without your express permission.

And it should be so, knowledge expertise and experience are the only qualities a patient should worry about his doctor. Better have a cynical doctor that knows whats he doing than one who's nice with ethics and morals, unless you have a death wish of course. 🤣Almost all doctor turn cynical and have weird jokes among self about patients, you will lose sanity if being empathetic and connected with each human being. Sometimes they die, and doctors and nurses have to cope with that somehow or else PTSD is a given

The problem isn’t that these “healthcare professionals” got caught, the problem is that they should NOT BE WORKING IN HEALTHCARE IF THEY ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO CAN SAY THESE THINGS. There is a lack of quality of care epidemic going on all over the world and none of these “healthcare professionals” are ever held accountable or responsible considering “justice systems” are literally set up to protect “doctors” at all costs. It’s not enough to be able to afford healthcare, the healthcare needs to be superb. Every single human being deserves quality healthcare. These “doctors” & “healthcare professionals” think they’re gods and can get away with anything. they are far too privileged and protected by society & the system. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE SO IF YOU ARE A VICTIM OF NEGLIGENT HEALTHCARE, YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP AND TRY TO FIGHT BACK OR ELSE THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE AND JUST GET WORSE. End of story.

There are other things Doctors and Residents may do during surgery. They may experiment on you. I went to a renown hospital for treatment of a "delicate" situation that required surgery. The first clue I had that something was up was I had 3 male "attendants" which I later believed to be residents who wanted to "observe" the procedure, I watched them smirk as they put me under before I got to the operating room. After the surgery, my recovery was so painful, I knew I had been used as a guinea pig while all three "residents" practiced the same procedure. The doctor was a cold fish. I never physically recovered from the procedure. But, sadly, I had signed papers that gave them permission to use me as a teaching tool. I am lucky to be alive.

When I had surgery a few years ago I found a surgeon who I felt REALLY comfortable with. I was seeing her for care for a while before, and then ongoing for months after, the surgery and I know she's the nicest person ever. I was worried because the day of the surgery I found out she'd have another doctor who was doing a fellowship working alongside her and I hadn't met him before that day. He seemed ok though. Later I saw him for care a couple times for a bit of an emergency when my primary doctor was out of town, and he was a total angel. I feel blessed to have had good people working over me when I'm unconscious, laying there totally vulnerable. But I'd had a bad experience in the past so I knew how important it was to me to find a doctor I was REALLY comfortable with to do my surgery. If I had a single reservation with them, I would have switched doctors. There are some gems out there, just gotta dig.

It is inserted into a patients careplan when there's only unnecessary suffering to try to extend a person life and all care given is only to increase quality of life until the end. There are also things that a person have to consider. A weakend body might not be able to take all kinds of medicines, under go major surgeries, partake in intense rehab plans, etc. compared to a young healthy body (which is always taken into consideration when deciding care for a person). There's of course the factor of people getting weakend by age, however the number itself isn't what decides a persons care, a patients physical evaluation does (which is what weakens with age).

Dude, I'm a nurse, and health care "professionals" who behave this way are not only irreparably disgusting humans, but they undermine aaaany trust the public has in the rest of us who take our professions seriously. Being in the hands of a surgeon/doctor/nurse/etc is an incredibly vulnerable position, and for these "professionals" to BETRAY that trust makes me feel literally sick to my stomach. Just so y'all know, most of us work hard to show our patients the respect that they deserve, and fortunately it's rare for me to catch a fellow health care worker being so flippantly unprofessional. Generally speaking, the folks who have busted their butts building a career in caring for others take that honor seriously (but, yeah-- every once in a while you find a real turd in the punch bowl, and I'm thankful to patients like this one who blow the cover on crappy providers. That surgeon doesn't deserve the priviledge/responsibility of having those who are vulnerable in his care)

No matter what your work is, if you don't have the person's best interest in hand-do not do the job. I'm glad she recorded it, and I hope she sues the crap out of them.

I have to agree. After nearly 4 years in the medical field, most of the healthcare workers shouldn't be in the field.

@@Mai-lh3xc honestly, healthcare can be one of the most frustrating places you'll ever work. The stuff you see is of nightmares. People dying all the time, feces, vomit, physical assault that you can do nothing about. The public has no clue... it can be like a horror movie. You also are always facing a lawsuit. The stuff in the video is the way workers unload from all the stress... although it's not the right way.

Like you always do your work for the interest of others and not buy a new car, phone, get a house etc. You guys are probably cursing at your home office right now and judging these guys, who never thought the patient was going to listen any of that, by doing the same, hypocrites

I started working for the law enforcement and also thought it was a professional, honorable career. Some are legit professionals but others ones are egotistical assholes who take advantage of their authority

I am a retired registered nurse and health care professionals should not be talking derogatory remarks about patient even they thought she is under the anesthesia. Very unprofessional conduct. 😢

how did a comment about her weight turn in to racial profiling? it was rude and unprofessional but not racial profiling....

yah i picked up on that Niki..... doesn't change the fact they were commenting on her weight and not her skin color......

then you didn't pick up on anything. Weight, the mammy stereotype, and now Precious conflate weight and the troupe of the fat Black woman. So once again, you didn't pick up anything. Critical Thinking is essential. Racial profiling isn't limited to skin color.

That was really unprofessional and rude of the doctors but it worries me that the women felt the need to hide the recorder in her hair.

It can't' be illegal to talk during surgery. The doctor has to ask for tools, wraps, etc. Plus the anesthesiologist has to tell the doctor if things aren't working safely. I wondered about the safety of someone putting a recorder in their hair before surgery. That is a lot of hair!

space girl They're allowed to talk about patient information (they need to, anyways) and anything too private(exact address, background, etc) wouldn't be available to them in the first place. Things like talking about "Oh she was so rude" or "Why are all my patients like this" are not restricted at all. It's common sense not to say it to the patient's face, after all, and doctors need *some* sort of conversational outlet other than "Yo can you hand me the scalpel" or "So uh... nice weather we're having? Not that I've gone outside in the last 12 hours or anything"
