My aunt was sexually assaulted while serving for her country by her officer in command. This is a real problem

It's insane how some people could think Rape and Sexual Harassment is a joke.

There should be cameras all over military bases, this abusers should be locked.

If you that much of a “man” for joining the military. Youre completely turn into a coward when you’re aren’t even willing to defend a women in front of you.

This is absolutely disgusting. The men who do that have no honor whatsoever. They shouldn’t be representing our country.

The girl who cried about removing her friends due to the trauma.. So many of us go through this. When everything feels out of control, sometimes that's the only control we have over our lives. I felt her pain.

I'm not surprised. Disgusted? Absolutely. But not surprised.

The military is, and always has been, a boy's club. I'm a woman and experienced sexual harassment in the Australian Army a lot. Not sexual assault, thankfully, but I know other women who have. Sexual assault happens when sexual harassment is allowed to continue unchecked. It becomes acceptable, even the norm. You don't even bother reporting harassment any more because the first time you try you're told, "Well, you joined a male-oriented environment, what do you expect?"... Sexual harassment was rife in our company. There was maybe 5 or 6 women out of 50 or 60 personnel and we were all Private soldiers and Corporals. The bottom of the chain, basically. It wasn't until a female Warrant Officer arrived - who noticed the behaviour within a week of her arrival - that it was addressed. It shouldn't have had to come to that. How many units have no women in positions of seniority to take these issues seriously? When sexual harassment is not nipped in the bud, when it is shown to be accepted, normalized, even encouraged to a degree, it escalates into sexual assault.

What angers me about this the most is that the men who serve and do this to the females who serve, think they can just get away with it because women don’t get as much respect as they do in the armed forces.

I am a 66y/o female with a history of military sexual trauma that has been with me everyday since. I just got my denial letter today I AM SAD AND ANGRY because to say the rest of what I feel and have felt for over 42 years since the trauma would require words I can not find. I am extremely sorry for the consistent nature of the pain told and the physical and mental anguish which follows us. Thank you all for your service and your fight. (I typed in the search bar, "Female veteran sexual assault how to live beyond the denial" after reading the letter, calling the crisis hotline and having a weary of the fight pity party.) I am back in the fight.

As a young girl, i'm personally having second thoughts about joining the military. My father was in the Army for 25 years, his father was in the Army, and my grandfather's father was in the Navy. Since i was little i wanted to join in their line of serving the country but didn't know it came with a price.

I tryed to join the Canadian Army in 2002, the recruitment officer told me a bunch of Absolutely complete horror stories, about how woman get raped frequently, even during basic training exercises. He told me about sexual harrassment and everything else he could, to scare a 16 yr old girl away from joining... I really wanted to serve my country, but felt like if I do, IAM signing up to get raped.... Sure scared me at the time... He clearly was not lying.... This is sad!

When you hear about soldiers going to countries and raping the women they're supposed to be helping you're a little skeptical but knowing in the military its practically a common and accepted behavior to be done TO THEIR OWN SOLDIERS, I cant help but wonder what horrors have happened in other countries with women from those places being rescued etc. I know this probably wont change in our time so I most definitely will be wary if my future daughter decides to want to go into service especially if I know she won't be protected by the law or systems of our military. My child wont be some sickos comfort woman

I was assaulted in AIT, ARMY.. I went to my SFC(not drill SGTs in AIT) and they told me to think about the soldiers career who assaulted me... That if I filed a complaint he would be finished. But what about me and my career. I was older when I joined the Army Reserves, 27, so I was closer in age to all the leadership then I was my fellow enlisted, and I thought they would be more understanding seeing as I was older, more mature. But it didn't matter, they told me that he would be restricted from going off post for a while and he would write me an apology letter. But no counselling statement in his file, no charges, nothing... It hurt that no one cared.

Being a Navy Mil. MST victim, I was given a Marine Captain on my case instead of a Navy Officer. The rapist was guilty yet, just got transferred. The Command humiliated me, punished me more with more tasks to do and for me to put in more hours of duties to do. My educational privileges most of the time was denied. They told me, I embarrassed the Command with other Commands. So After that, I was raped again and again. So I learned to shut up my mouth and obeyed and suffering in silence. . Because I didn't want to get out and I didn't have a family to go to if I'm out. So I stayed for 14 yrs of verbal, physical , mental and psychological abuse including over worked and denied human rights. After I became a single parent, I was abused again, failed marriages and was also abused in my marriage with my ex military husband. Nothing was done to him. Just buddy buddy with their men counterpart.

What sucks is that many people don’t acknowledge this, idk why...

I was in the military once, and I used to be confused why women outside and inside of the military didn't get too serious with military men. I think I'm starting to see their reasoning. :X

My best advice to woman when joining the military, stay in groups. These will help you not get harassed or raped.

I wonder how it would have been handled if an physically abused female soldier would have shot and killed a male soldier in self defense.

While I was in the USCG, I had to report 2 sexual assaults. One outranked me by 2, and the other was my same rank. The one that outranked me was given a slap on the wrist and allowed to stay in, and the other was kicked out. Then, I was medically retired for PTSD during my short time in.

Bro people literally disgust me, some people didn't even bother to help them and called their stories fake. Why would someone fake being raped? This is serious and sad how people handle this. And those rapists should go to jail as well.

Her sister speaking towards the beinging of the video gave me goose bumps over my entire body! Such a sad story! The truth behind that story is far deeper than what we all may think/believe. The base that she was stationed at has been basically taken over by corruption- aligning themselves with their "Cartel" counterparts! Moving drugs, guns and who knows what else across OUR Nation's borders! Our countrymen have foresaken us on so many fronts!!!!

My grandma was with my grandpa who was in the army and when he was training my grandma cleaned houses in the army base and the Colonels were frisky and touching her inappropriately.

Sadly, have a male family member who served in Kuwait and Iraq, who verified that this type of behavior happens and is systematically "squashed" by the superior officers. Additionally, the offending officers familiars will routinely harrass the woman who was brave enough to step forward in a coordinated effort to make her recant.

Let me set the record straight. I am a veteran, I went into the military to create a better life for me and my sons. I was proud to be a soldier. However, the system was and still is corrupt. After 8 years I left. It didn't matter how hard I worked, I was always expected to lay on my back in order to gain rank. Be all you can be is not a slogan for women. If every woman that encountered this type of situation was to stand up, the world would be shocked. THIS IS VERY COMMON.

If people can't even stand for the right of these women how can we trust them with the safety of the country.

I'm a Navy veteran, one time when I came back from vacation, another sailor who I worked with asked me if I got breast implants cause they looked bigger. On another occasion, the same guy told me he and the boss had discussed why I had been so slow on that morning's 1.5 mile run (I had a cold), well they came to the conclusion the reason I was slow was because I had been up all night having sex. One time I was in the ER helping the Ortho people with an xray machine, it was very heavy and hard to move so the Ortotropic surgeon yelled at me and told me to hurry up cause the only thing he saw moving was my ass. While on active duty two women of my acquaintance were raped by someone they knew and trusted. Thankfully, I've never had to deal with those sexual comments in the civilian sector.

Abuse is normalized even military to military spouses. Most of the time the men were just slapped on the wrists or transferred to another duty station. One of my rapist was transferred.

My daughter dealt sexual harassment throughout bootcamp she reported it she had Witnesses but when she got to AIT they told her it was unfounded and the person that is harassing her not only isnt I trouble but is now being moved to the very same base where she is and she scared to death and has no idea what to do and neither do i...how do I protect my daughter???

I wish I could share my story. This is a serious issue that is swept under the rug. All the SAPR training means nothing when there is a major issue with sexual abuse in the military. These women deserve better.

I’m sensitive to the harassment women go through because as a Black man I had to deal with racial harassment in the Navy. Unlike civilian life , YOU CAN’T CHARGE SOMEBODY WITH BATTERY IN THE MILITARY.

Another terrible problem is sadist sexual harassment by male veterans towards single women who live in the same apartment communities as them. And, the VA doesn't help with that either. The military just lets these animals loose on the civilian population.

Sadly the sister will never get the justice and answers she desperately seeks and needs.
