It's a modesty thing over there. Showing feelings in public by laughing might be misconstrued or give the wrong impression. Also, they are there to represent their countries, so they have to keep in mind the opinions of folks at home. In private, it's a completely different matter. That said, look up a KZfaq interview with Masha Kuchina (Lasitskene's maiden name) and you'll see a completely different side of her -- girlish, charming and outgoing, unlike her behavior during competition, when she's all business. Yes indeed, what these women do is amazing and beautiful to watch. Re the politics, "taking the knee" (hint) would be absolutely unthinkable.

@@yvadimka True it's politics to get back at Russia the nation, because they oppose the LGBTQP+NB< dealings with Ukraine, and they are often at odds with the west in political and governmental, and financial, and land things, who controls these sports organizations and Olympics. I still remember hearing of Jimmy Carter banning all American athletes from the Russian olympics way back politically because Russia was in Afghanistan, years later America is there and iRaq and many other places. I think this is the USA government way of getting back for Jimmy Carter's mistake, that cost all American athletes to miss out on metals, and since Russia and the USA win the most, this guaranteed America would win the most without the closest competitor allowed to compete. America, canada, and others have been caught doping, but they would never ban the whole country innocent plus guilty together, but in Russia case no problem. They already robbed Mariya of one Gold metal, no 4 years later they are trying to do it again, when they know she is clean and the best woman high jumper in the world 4 years+, the most dominant athlete in her or any major sport. It is so sad the these childish old men in leadership of the governments of the world are denying athletes the ability to compete, and robbing them of income and sponsers, just to get revenge and make a political point and show how much wimpy political power they have. The ban is on the Russian federation for continued doping violations. Mariya herself called out the Russian officials and coaches for living in the past and thinking the only way to win is by doping! She has to compete as a neutral athlete and blames her own federation, not the IAAF for not being able to represent her country and flag.

Well is all political, nobody even think about banning USA for their systematic doping scandal of the bicycle team that won all the Tour de France during the Lance Armstrong years. They were all cheating, they just put the blame on one guy but was the whole team. I am very tired of Olympic Games because of that. I do prefer other competitions.

Not just the butt - anywhere. Maximum lift = no excess weight anywhere. High jumpers likely have the lowest body fat percentage among women athletes.

What do u expect from a high jumper? Singing? Give a speech? They do the jump not entertain people... i think she happen to act like that because she did pass that high so many time, 2:04 meter so many times and still didnt pass 2:06 thats make her a little frust with it.. u can see other video of her passing 2:04... maybe other athletes is just new to 2:00... in one video im watching all contestant only do around 1:95 an shes the only one pass 2:04..

thats why I like her, but if you watch closely, when she is struggling you will see her emotions, screams, kicking things, making funny faces, congratulating others, playing with the flag guy and mascots, I used to think she was always focused, but she is not, that is just during the jump, and sometimes after if it goes as planned. But not when the other jumpers truly challenge her, like when Yulia Levchenko beat her for the first time in three years, during the match USA vs Europe.
