Congrats to Barty, she really deserved to be the champion the way she played this tournament. As for Danielle, it wasn't her day but she really challenged Barty's game esp in the second set. Gracious in defeat too, earned a new fan.

Collin's speech was very professional and heartfelt, but was prepared like a "winner's" speech. As a player, I think Collin's has the tenacity to be in the top 3. I've seen her play better than today, but again she was playing Barty. Barty has improved a lot. It seems like she's playing chess on the court, always reading 1 step ahead and executing. Congrats Ashleigh!!!

Ashleigh's smile transmits humanity. I don't know how to explain it but it's beautiful. Congrats Ash Barty! After a fabulous tournament she felt a bit the pressure of winning in the final, at his home, but in the end, with that comeback in the second set, she showed why she is the number 1 of the world. I look forward to next Slams because according to me Barty has the tennis to win all 4 Slam in a year.

One of those weird super tense finals that never caught fire. Barty was up and down and up and down. Collins never really got going and was hitting at about 50% power. But Barty is such a champ and such a splendid human she totally deserves it. Bravo.

I so wish that far more footage of the wonderful Evonne Goolagong Cawley would be made available for all to enjoy. She was THE most beloved female tennis player of the 70s and early 80s, certainly so at Wimbledon where she was adored. Her achievements were spectacular given the shortness of her playing career, impacted by two pregnancies and a catalogue of foot and ankle injuries. She is in my opinion the female Federer, sheer poetry in motion. It’s tragic there is so little footage made available of her in her prime.

Good to see Barty becoming comfortable with being a major celebrity. For along time Barty didn’t seem to want to have anything to do with fame. I think it may have held back her tennis career but now that she accepts she’s a big star especially in her home country, her tennis game has flourished. Also, notice Barty never cries, win or lose. She puts tennis in proper perspective. Knows there are more important things in the world than a tennis match. Remember, after she was upset in a match at Wimbledon about 3 years ago, she said “The sun will still come up tomorrow”. She was disappointed but no tears. Typical Ash, she has a very healthy outlook on both her life and career. Congrats to her on this milestone win. It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person.

People undermining Barty's win because she didn't face top ranked opponents. It's not like she did that on purpose and it's not her fault her competitors ended up losing in the early stages. Barty deserves this and earned it so well. She could be that consistent top ranked player WTA needs now, after Serena.

Dear Ash, January 30, 2022, Yesterday, me and my mum watched you win the Australian Open 2022 Women’s Singles. Wow, I cannot believe that you are the first Aussie to win the Australian Open Women’s Singles since Chris O’Neil in 1978. I had to look up my hometown of Echuca Moama to see if there was some Australian Open champions, but to tell you a fact, Echuca Moama has got no tennis players that were born here, lived here or moved here. Maybe one day, I’m going to become the first Echuca Moama person to become an Australian Open champion. And I am hoping that one day, I will win the Australian Open 2031 Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and the Mixed Doubles. During the Mixed Doubles, I am hoping to play with you, and become partners with you one day. Don’t be the first you. Be the next-generation Evonne Goolagong Cawley. I won’t be the first me. I will be the male you. From Jade.

Collins will be kicking herself today. At 5-1 in the second set she seemed to be cruising, but then came a cataclysmic Choke of the highest order. It began as a stutter of errors and ended in complete collapse for the young American as she practically handed the match to Barty. Not since Sabine Lisicki at Wimbledon have we seen such a miserable capitulation as Collins lost five of the next six games and finally losing comfortably on the tie-break. What a horrifying shambles to a great tournament...
