I do the both of them with my animals, they should respect, and trust me, the only cases in which my animal should be scared, is when they’re doing something dangerous to them or others and I need them to know that they should be scared because it is dangerous (my dog running onto the road or carelessly approaching/chasing other dogs and animals for example, could get someone else badly hurt or even killed, or he could get himself badly hurt or even killed, and if he hurts someone else or someone else’s animal, he could also get put down, it’s better that he’s a bit scared of the road, or cautious around new animals and people, than dead because he’s reckless)
@OnceUponaTimeline3 ай бұрын
IMO you need to have both. Not enough respect and they like you but consider you on the bottom of the pecking order. Too rough and they fear you but don't like you.

As a male equestrian this is almost entirely accurate except I do wear a helmet. My brain is already damaged enough. I don’t need to make it worse. Though I sometimes wonder if I hit it hard enough maybe I’ll finally be normal.

not him throwing that entire flake of hay over the fence lolll
@OnceUponaTimeline3 ай бұрын
Now I feel bad since that's how i do it! However I noticed if I throw loose hay over and a flake, the horses always choose the compacted flake first. So i feel kinda bad when I put in loose hay, except I don't want to waste loose hay either!
@danielmoulton4117Ай бұрын
The animal can't eat the flake whole. They're quite capable of separating the stems themselves.
@NavvyMomАй бұрын
@@OnceUponaTimelineThat's because the loose hay more likely lost some or most of the seed heads and best bits-- the stuff we call the "candy.". Even though they'll have to work for it, the compacted flake still has the candy in it. Ever notice how they kind of throw the hay around, and eat the candy that falls through to the ground first? Or the cleverer ones try to pick out the candy without letting it hit the ground. Then they go for the most tender stems and work their way to the toughest parts last, except they usually don't eat that because they've trodden all over it as they picked out the better bits, and they know another flake will be coming their way soon. That's the stuff that ends up being dumped with the manure.
@OnceUponaTimelineАй бұрын
@@NavvyMom I know what you mean but we don't have much diff between with our hay, it gets eaten fast and stays pretty fresh. The 'loose' stuff has also often only been kinda loose for a short while because I was making half flakes for some of the horses that get more bermuda instead. Most of them don't throw it around much either. We also have one wierdo that only cares about stems, silly boy, he'll just stop eating if there's no stems even if there is an inch of leaf bits stacked up.
@NavvyMomАй бұрын
@@OnceUponaTimeline Sounds like you have really nice hay. Where I am it's a crapshoot how nice the hay will be. Can count on one hand the times they've cleaned up every piece.

My favorite male equestrian is Warwick Schiller. He has such a kind gentle manner with his horses, and I love that he never uses fear or intimidation to train, only classical conditioning. He's not preoccupied with "disrespect" or "being the boss" he wants the horse to feel comfortable with him and rely on him for guidance.

@@cobrebluebonnetequinechall4782 It was a joke, it isn't really a man vs woman thing, but there’s always truth in jest. Anyone can claim to be a horse trainer, but I prefer a true Horsemen, one that understands how horses think. IME, women do have a tendency of SPOILING their horses by treating them like their child. Spoiled horses make dangerous horses. ✌🏼😎
@cerealkiller1031Ай бұрын
@cdcdogs4961 I’ve never seen that. There are more „trainers“ out there (both men and women, but more males) that abuse and flood their horses and call that training. That’s way more dangerous than a spoiled horse. The people that spoil their horses are mainly amateur riders that don’t know much and don’t claim to be trainers.

He was a beautiful shade of brown. Pegasus ended up being an outstanding horse, he was a Quarter Horse x Arab and was one of the best horses I think I have ever ridden! I probably shouldn't have sold him, but I did. He went to a very good home though, to be the personal horse of another "Horse Rescue" lady.
