Gently hold and pull the two wires apart, and watch the magic unfold! The two wires appear to be unwinding, but in fact, they never do. Keep pulling and the wires will turn in a never-ending spiral. It is an amazing optical illusion, or alternatively you can think of it as a neat magic trick.This charming little trick is very easy to perform, making it a great toy for children and kids, and a fun fidget desktop accessory for adults.
This simple yet puzzling optical illusion occurs because your fingers are allowing the metal spiral to slip through them, as you move your hands apart. The two wires are rotating, but only your hands are actually moving apart!
This is quite a famous illusion, sometimes known as the "Mephisto Spiral".

You might think it's a trick and the coils are actually turning, creating an illusion of moving left and right, but actually they do not turn but disappear and reappear between 4 magical invisible portals that Tim has summoned at the end of each wire.

To those who manage the Grand illusions channel, I don't know if I am the only one who thinks this, but because I use headphones, the outro is honestly quite jarring and nearly painful to listen to. The high frequencies are loud and piercing and I thought you should know so that you can consider adjusting that. This is one of the greatest channels on this site, by the way. I am always excited to watch each new upload.

Everytime you try to pull the wire down the ends reconnect and it manages to stay engaged. Gives the appearance that its moving apart yet reconnecting at the same time at each end. Nice mind bender.

This video disturbed me greatly. I think my eyes were facing opposite directions of the wire for a second before I noticed it. Once I did they immediate went back so I'm not completely sure.

Hands moving away from center, causing the opposite wound springs to rotate in one direct, allowing the washer to travel on said rotation. The 2 springs are diff, one has a right hand twist, the other left. One stretched spring off the shelf would not rotate in this way.

My understanding is that the ends you are grabbing are actually spinning in your hands, giving you the illusion that your moving them. It's subtle but that's the only way this works while obeying the laws of physics.

It's pretty easy to figure out though. His hands are moving down the spiral as the wire spins. His hands move down to give the illusion that the wire is pulling apart while all they are doing is spinning around each other.

i just cant wrap my head around this. you can clearly see both endings. how does it not come apart? I am so blown away by this. it would be like you wrap 2 pieces of wire around each other and and pull them apart the same way they WILL come apart. so why wont this act the same way ?

I have to get one. This just blows my mind. I saw a video of someone repairing a wonder wire. They are two separate spring-like wires simply put together. Nothing holding them together. You would think they would come apart. Maybe one of the bends are slightly different and like a stripped screw, when you get to that part of the thread it kind of skips or resets itself. It makes my brain hurt
