For Fieldsports Ireland episode 7, Jason Doyle is out with a Brit. Matt Jarvis moved to Ireland from the UK because he loves shooting - and eating what he shoots. His idea of a great day out is a walk around with dog and gun. You have to stay on your toes when you are roughshooting - birds can pop up at any moment. Then there’s something else that’s becoming a massive Irish event: the British Shooting Show at the NEC in Birmingham. All Jason’s sponsors are there, and he rounds up what’s on their stands. And finally, Jason is off with his pal John Foxton muntjac stalking. In Ireland? No, Norfolk. He swapped an Irish stalk with an English stalker, and this is his payback. Lucky men.

Great show Jason. Really enjoyed the rough shooting section, nothing better than heading out with dog for an hour or two and getting a pheasant for the table.

Sadly a lot of wildlife habitat has disappeared on irish farms in recent years due to the expanding national dairy herd. Here in the South East of ireland , walked up pheasant shooting is a thing of the past on the farms i used to hunt

J. Padian yep defo wanna do some woodcock next season. Very tricky to film but we’ll give it a lash.

Great video as usual. Got myself all certified and shot my first deer this season, so next is to get a pheasant next season. Any advice on a nice game/walk up gun. Think the clay gun is a bit heavy for long walks haha.

Patrick B682 well done Patrick! You could do a lot worse than the Benelli Matt is using in this film. I’ve really fallen for this gun. The range of adjustments means it can fit just about anyone. Super light and nice to carry makes it ideal for game shooting.

Excellent show. Liked what you said at the end that every part of the bird is used 👍🏼. Not just the breast. Have come across people who shoot game and don't eat it. Vile and disgusting

Great episode as usual Jason. For a total beginner with no experience in deer stalking would you recommend a trip to the UK after a muntjac or cwd for the likes of me or is it prohibitively expensive? Shooting one is one thing but I’d like to learn how to field dress the animal properly, it always looks too easy on any video I see .It’s been in my mind to get into deer shooting for a long time and I had planned on getting a guide to take me out here in Ireland but after talking to you at the Shooting show I learned that estate rifles were not really a thing over here.

kranob1 yes I think going on a few hunts with a guide is a great way to learn and to see if stalking is for you. It doesn’t have to be expensive at all if you go for a doe muntjac hunt. Look up Paul Childerley’s website and give him a shout. I’ve brought guys to him before for their first deer and he makes sure it’s a great experience.

Just a reminder that this sport is the reserve of the very very few and privileged. And shooting pheasants beside their feeders isn’t really sporting.
