Wood Turned Segmented Spheres

I have wood turned two segmented spheres. I started with two dodecahedrons. I made these by first gluing a series of wood strips together starting with a darker wood on one side and a lighter wood on the other trying to create a gradient of color between the two. I then cut these strips into triangles. In doing this, I ended up with two different sets of triangles. I glued these in sets of five forming pentagons. These pentagons became the 12 sides of the dodecahedron that I wood turned into spheres. I used walnut, cherry and maple. I used the CNC to cut a rough sphere into the dodecahedron and with that I could then wood turn a final finished sphere.

His woodworking is top tier, his video editing and scripting leagues ahead of many if not all KZfaq channels. Always so informative and enjoyable to watch with his calming voice over. Or maybe it is Bonny, Calvin or Clair doing the scripting/editing:)

Yea his video production is just mind blowing. The appearance of a "live" narrator like that is amazing. I've never seen that before. I've seen split clones but narrating as he's doing the work is awesome

with 12 pentagons, and 12x5 = 60 triangles, if you put the numbers 1-12 on the pentagons of one ball, and 0-59 on the triangles of another. So you could turn it into a clock -> 12 hours and 60 minutes :D Provided you had a super complicated mechanism to turn them

If you are looking for a 12, try screw head types, with a little bit of research you will find more than enough especially if you delve into security screws companies don’t want you to undo. With the different head types there are plenty to choose from.😁 I bought a set of screw bits once to undo most of them and there were way more than 12 types. Also if you made 6 of the pentagons out of resin, would it be possible to insert an LED light to make a Christmas ornament. All the best to ya😁😁

It is incredible how you use your math knowledge including geometry to create perfection in your pieces. Yet, you explain so well that it makes it easy for anyone to follow your instructions.
