wood turning - I should have done this a long time ago

It's about time, RIGHT! I've been putting this off but I finally did it.
I use used a small piece of cherry branch for this project. The wood was wet from sitting in the rain so I had to turn to the shape I want then let it sit for a couple days. After that I sanded and finished it. I made them round to get a good grip. they are handles for wire burning.

Or you do the same thing with 2 bits of scrap Dowl with copper wire.

My yellow lathe is variable speed. The one in this video you have to change the belt to change the speed.

what type of wire do you use. I have normal wire and it seems to take too long to heat up enough to burn.

I use bailing wire and also left over wire from my mig welder. The wire heats up faster at higher rpms. Also wrap the wire a little more around the wood. The more surface area the more it heats up. Hope that helps.

You are probably not running fast enough. It’s always best to use ur skewer & make a slight indentation where your wire will ride on. Use thinner gauge wire.

Came here to ask this lol. I made one from a guitar string and it takes a while. I’ll bump it up a couple pulleys next time.
