Found some Manila rope in the garden shed and got the idea for this build. It turned out great, especially the Total Boat Table Top finish. After sanding there were many huge voids on the surface, and the Table Top epoxy filled them all nicely, giving a solid smooth glossy finish. Enjoy the video.

I like using epoxy, maybe not as much as some people, but I hate the mess it makes when turning. Wood shavings I can put on the garden but epoxy shavings are useless. Anyhow, I love the rope idea 👍👍❤️

Before you make another poured resin project , try something that I learned in a fiberglass boat construction class . First , degrease your mold with acetone , let air dry . Apply a coat of carnuba wax based mold release , and buff it . Your poured items should pop out with a thump or some air pressure around it

Epoxy has a very low boiling point , or maybe its a gassing off point But under vacuum it foams up and then sets as a foam Using pressure is the way
@Tom-hz9oc
@Tom-hz9oc 28 күн бұрын
@@LeslieGallivan-mp5qi I’ve seen both methods, so I’m pretty sure it depends upon the type of epoxy and the methodology.

I have a question: my resin tends to chip out when I’m turning it. Do you know why that would be? Your seems to peel away nicely.
@BelfastCarving
@BelfastCarving 21 күн бұрын
I hate when it does that. Try getting carbide bits with a negative rack. Easy Wood Tools have negative rack bits made for epoxy.

It seems the term “wood turning” should be changed to “filled epoxy resin” turning. Wood seems to be less and less the material of choice for lathe projects… but the we STILL “dial” somebody on our phones….😮

Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime and that was to his brother. I am sure that if you had been around at the time you would have told him was wasting his time and that his paintings weren't worth the effort.
