Loved watching the process. Always calming to see others work their craft with intention! ☺️What kind of wood did you used for the piece?

Thank you! I use mdf, but linoleum and birch or Baltic birch plywood are also good

Thanks! I use a small and large u gouge, most art supply stores and websites should have them.

The small u gauge is by Power Grip and is available on Amazon. I believe it is a 1.5mm size.

This one is by Power Grip and is a u gauge 1.5mm, available on Amazon. Flexcut and Pfiel make a 1.0mm u gauge as well.

I use a 1mm for the small u gouge. Those are all great brands! I use Power Grip because it's available locally here in Taiwan.

I was in the art store today and the gouge I use is indeed 1.5mm, good eye! I'm in Taiwan so everything is in Mandarin (or Japanese for a lot of art supplies), my reading isn't the best so I usually gloss over the details of the tools 😅

Such a crass way of cutting. Slow down. Cut patiently. Watch some Japanese ukiyo-e ways. You have a long way to go.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm a fan of Dave Bull's livestream (JapanesePrintmaking on Twitch), he works in the Ukiyo-e style and it's very enjoyable to watch. When it comes to working, though, that rhythm has never resonated with me. I think every artist has to find the workflow that feels right to them, and the traditional Japanese method just isn't me.

I am also a fan of Dave Bull and have visited him at his workshop and. Mokuhankan store in Japan many times. He has told many tales of his beginnings at wood carving and using a small Aisuki only to carve one of his larger prints. I agree with you. Everyone has his own way of carving and the end result and enjoyment of the process is it’s own reward.

@@LeiStudios You don’t have to be David Bull. You have to be a sensible artist. Your attitude towards this delicate form of art is misplaced. There are many rough ways of creating art...wood carving is not one of them. Slow down. Be patient. Be gracious. I am only telling you as a fellow well wishing artist. Woodcut is sacred. Be gentle.
